Satire only
                                                 My Workplace Romance

(Satire on Social Issues, Satire on Political Issues, Satire on Red Tapes, Satire on Economical Issues)

                                                      Bhishm Kukreti

The wife asked, “Tell me name of your office colleague with whom you’ve been romancing for so many years.”
I asked,” Why is there sudden interest on my romance in workplace?”
She replied,” Chhaunu and Chinkhu ke papa! I am serious to know about your workplace romances.”
I answered,” Having you as beautiful wife, I am not so lucky to have time for workplace romance.”
Annoyingly, she said,” I am not in mood to have jolly talks. It is very much essential for me to know about your extra marital romances.
I pleaded,” I don’t have any  ...”
She shouted,” it is just impossible that you will not have workplace romance and will not have a couple of female lovers.  As usual, you are fooling me. There is report in Economic Times that fifty percent (50%) of people had office romance and fifty one percent (51%) people have affairs with colleague only. You must be among those fifty percent (50%) or among fifty one percent.”
I said, “I don’t have any female romancing partner in my workplace.”
She said,” Don’t you have affairs with your juniors?”
I answered,” No! God did not provide me such character that I had affair with my juniors.”
Gallingly, she said,” However, ET’s survey reveals that 34.3 percent people have affair with their juniors.”
I answered,’ I am sorry I am not so lucky.”
She said, “Since, you are a senior executive you will be among those 14.6 percent people.”
I asked,” What is there among 14.6 percent?”
She answered,” ET’s report says that 14.6 percent have affair with their seniors. You must be romancing with your seniors.”
I said,” Madam! I am the senior most executive in my workplace in Mumbai region.”
Joyfully, she said,’ Oh! Then you will be among 12.5 percent who took transfer due to workplace romance. You shifted first to Aurangabad and later on returned back to Mumbai. Definitely, you had strong affairs either with your juniors or with seniors.”
I answered,’ It was not because of my insistence that I got transfer but because my boss wanted me at Aurangabad.”
Pitifully, she said,” You don’t have any extra marital affair in work place. How could I face my Kitty Party members?”
I asked,” What do you mean by facing Kitty Party members?”
She replied more miserably, “Today, we have kitty party and all of us will reveal the workplace love affairs of our husbands.”
I asked,” I did not get you.”
She explained,” In kitty party, we all will reveal the workplace love affairs of our husbands. Mrs. Barasyun ki Bagni got all information about her husband’s affair; Mrs. Chaundkot ki Band dig up the details of her husband’s involvement with his female colleagues; Mrs. Bagargadhya Bigraili has   video clips about her husband’s love affairs with his junior colleague; Mrs.  Chipli-Chakori of Bhilangana Ghati knows about her husband being taken on dating by his senior woman friend; I am ashamed that I could not get any clue about workplace affair of my husband.”
I said,” Darling! You are lucky that your husband is Patnivrta.”
She said sadly,” No, these days the society norms are changed. You were very much ‘Dilfenku’ in your student life in Dehradun. You used to take all my female friends to Nepoli for coffee party. How come! You don’t have any extra marital affairs with your juniors and seniors?”
I answered,” Because, in Videocon group, there is seldom any female staff in marketing.”
She left the bed-room and went to kitchen which is other side of our bedroom.
After she left, I called, “Yes! Mrs.Chhkchhatya! My Bulbul! My sweet heart! As planned we shall meet at lunch at revolving restaurant. Don’t worry I have booked a cabin there and we shall not have any disturbance.”

Psychological Aspects in ‘Lalsa’ a Social Drama by Lalit Keshwan

(Review of Garhwali Drama, Review of Kumauni Drama, Review of Uttarakhandi drama, Review of Himalayan language Drama)

                                                                  Bhishm Kukreti

Lalit Keshwan is famous Garhwali poet who along with Kanhaiya Lal Dandriyal and Jaya Nand Khuksal  Baulya    brought realism in Garhwali poetry.
Lalit Keshwan wrote dramas too. He published recently a collection of five Garhwali plays – Jai Badri Narain (2011). Lalsa is one of the plays from Jai Badri Narain.
Lalsa means desire.  ‘Lalsa’ drama is nearest to extreme realism in Garhwali drama or could be classified as naturalistic drama.
The drama is very simple and there is hardly a big twist in the play ‘Lalsa’ except in the last stage.  The story of Lalsa drama is about a migrated Garhwali family living in Delhi in poor condition. Daulat Singh is an old man and ailing for long. His son Beeru a government servant is sole runner of the family needs but his income is not sufficient to cope with the increasing financial requirement. Beeru’s young children are studying in colleges.  Beeru had to take loans from friends for running the house. Daulat Singh has a strong desire to see his village in Garhwal before he dies but due to poor condition of his son, Daulat Singh is unable to fulfill his desire to visit his ancestral place. Shila the wife of Beeru tries to accommodate the circumstances. Sheru comes to Delhi from village to watch 26th January.  Daulat gets money. Now the drama is about – whether Daulat Singh would visit his ancestral place or not?
Lalit Keshwan being a poet has full knowledge of human behaviors and there are psychological aspects in his realistic play ’Lalsa’
Asmus- Daulat Singh is a patient of asthma and all the time, he behaves as happens in ‘asmus’ conditions.
I have been taking medicines for asthma but there is no relive for a cent.
Aboulia- Aboulia means chronic indecision, with eventual loss of initiative. There are signs of aboulia in Daulat Singh, Beeru and Shila; due to lack of money they are showing indecisiveness too.
There are dialogues between Beeru and his wife Shila for buying a television. The question was whether buying on loan TV was right move or not. They bought TV on loan but till date the decision is not resolved.
Potentiality verses Accomplishment:   The playwright Lalit Keshwan showed the problem of actual accomplishment and potentiality of accomplishment y way of direct dialogues and indirect methodology for viewers to understand.
There are dialogues following the above scene showing potentiality and the actual accomplishment.
Algedonic phase of life: Algedonic is pertaining to pleasantness and unpleasantness dimension of feeling or emotion.
Daulat Singh sold the ‘Sagwad’ (a small land before the house and courtyard for growing vegetables) to Sheru at a reasonable price. The money would solve temporary economical problem, by all means Daulat Singh could go to his native place in Garhwal from Delhi. However, there two pains attached to selling ‘Sagwad’. Daulat Singh had to sell his ancestral land and there is another reality waiting about Daulat Singh (last part of one scene act ‘Lalsa’) which, is definitely painful for audience.
Bond and bonding: there are many examples of bond and bonding in the drama’ Lalsa’. The bond between Beeru and his ailing father, bond between Daulat Singh and the ancestral place.
The behavior of Daulat Singh about visiting his native place is nothing but an example of bovarism too and Lalit shows the same very successfully.
Body Language: No doubt, wisely, Lalit Keshwan left space for director and performers for showing body language while playing the roles in drama.   However, most the time, Lalit Keshwan showed the body languages of characters by describing the situation and most of the time dialogues create images of body languages of the drama’s characters.
There is a scene that guests from village left the house of Beeru for watching 26th January procession and there is scene ---
The above scene proves the capability of Lalit Keshwan for his complete awareness about human behaviors. For example, when elders are worried or active for other jobs the children are busy in watching television. This scene is enough to show that Lalit has knowledge of psychology.
In most of the scenes, Lalit has been successful for showing contact, contact comfort and semantic content.
Lalit Keshwan knows the importance of values and compatibility in the social circle of Daulat Singh and the circle of his age.
The ‘Sagwad’ before the house of Sheru belongs to Daulat Singh and when the deal of selling ‘Sagwad’ by Daulat Singh is over. There is a talk between Sheru and Daulat.
The writer is successful in showing wish and wish fulfillment aspects of life in the drama. Many times, Daulat Singh behaves non-rational too and it is the proof of Lalit Keshwan knowing human behaviors very well.
The above examples show that Lalit Keshwan not only created a realistic drama but he has been successful in using perfect psychological aspects of characters of drama ‘Lalsa’.

Fundyanath 420: One of the Great Satirical Poems of 21st Century of Poetry world

                                       Bhishm Kukreti

A literature critic cicely A Richard rightly states that satire is a competent writing skill for exposing faults found in society and creative use humor as mirror to show the world their true face.
Famous poet G.G.L. Byron used satirical poems effectively for public to look at objectively at politics and politicians. However, Harish Juyal went ahead in using satirical words harsher than words used in poem ‘Don Juan’ by George G.L. Byron.
Fundyanath -420 poem by  Harish is as critical against leadership as the poem ‘Re-Conferences’ by famous Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovski against bureaucracy at the time of Lenin in Russia.
Polish poet Antony Slonimski was also famous for criticizing harshly the leadership through satirical poems.
A Zimbabwe’s famous poet Chirikure Chirikure is famous for blending humor and anger, Harish uses humor and anger in his Fundyanath 420 poem.
The talent of Harish Juyal about humor, irony and political satire could be compared the raptures and emotions found in the stories of famous Nigerian creative Chinua Achebe.
Nobel Prize winner literature creative and Nigerian valiant writer Wole Soyinka states that the promise of pen belongs to take bulls by horns. Fundyanath a satirical and humorous poem  by Harish Juyal fulfils the statement by great creative Wole Soyinka.

Style of poem: The style is different and is mixture of Hindi and Garhwali. This style is not new for Garhwali in our folk poetry. Rakhwalee is performed in the same manner i.e. mixture of Hindi and Garhwali

Phrases create Perfect and desired images: the specialty of the poet is that he uses local phrases for creating images of unthinkable leaders and their leadership of political arena and social field.

Hitch To Speak before a Wrong Person

                                                     Bhishm Kukreti

These days, I am getting regular calls from my village and relatives living in Garhwal for solving common community properties problems.
Today, there was a  call from Gajju Bwada,” Bhishm! Do you have any worry or not about your village? “
I asked,” Bwada Ji! What has happened?”
He said,” You migrated ones (deshval)  have become so selfish that you don’t bother at all for wrong happenings in the village.”
I said,” Bwada Ji! Should I send donation for any new cause for the village?”
Bwada Ji answered,” Yes! Of course we need donation but I did not call you for donation. My mobile is pre-paid. So, you call from your mobile.”  He put off mobile.
I called and asked,” What is the problem if not donation?”
He shouted,” You ‘desh vale’ (migrated ones) never want to know the problems of village.”
I once again requested,” Bwada Ji! Tell me the problem”
He explained,” Rvindra has started building house in Sanjait Jameen (common property of village). You all deshval (migrated ones) should act immediately for stopping Ravindra for his encroachment on village common property.”
I asked,” Gram Pradhan should act upon and should stop Ravindra Bhaiji for building the new house on the Sanjait Jameen.”
He said,” No! Gram Pradhan Ji can’t go against Ravindra. There is Gram Pradhan’s daughter marriage in the next season. You know Ravindra is the only expert of arranging everything for girl’s marriage in our village.”
I suggested,” Let Gobardhan kaka speaks with Ravindra Bhaiji.”
Bwada clarified,” Gobardhan can’t dream harming Ravindra.  Gobardhan took fake buffalo buying loan for his son’s marriage and Ravindra is guarantor.”
I said,” Sohan Master Ji is the best person to tackle the situation.  Let Sohan Master Ji speaks to Ravindra Bhaiji.”
Bwada simplified,” There are two three obligations of Ravindra on Sohan Master. Sohan master was caught twice for malpractices in Children Day Meal. Both the times Ravindra saved the skin of Sohan Master.
I said,”Bwada Ji! You are always straight forward and whenever somebody pushed your Vado (a dividing stone dividing the ownership of land) you used to slap the culprits.”
He answered,” That is different aspect of my principles. I will never allow anybody to snatch my right.”
I said,” Ravindra Bhaiji is encroaching into village property. You should act upon.”
He said,” First of all, Ravindra is not interfering into my individual’s right. Secondly, I am in negotiating point with Ravindra for a land deal. His land is just in front of my house and I want to buy that land. For village sake, I will never annoy Ravindra.”
I said,” It means there is no alternate.”
He said,” You should take the lead and should stop Ravindra for encroaching common village land. “
I answered, “Bwada Ji!  I would be happy to do so. However, in the coming summer season, we all Mundit wale will visit village  for our Sanjait Narsingh Poojan and nobody in my Mundit can dare to upset Ravindra Bhaiji as he will arrange everything for us for carrying Narsingh Poojan.”
Bwada shouted,” You all ‘deshVal’ (migrated ones) are selfish.”  And he put off the phone.
