                    Nitya Nand Maithani a prolific Garhwali fiction writer and playwright took entertainment through drams very seriously. Many of his dramas are investigating the human tendencies, human ambitions and aspiration besides foolishness and ignorance.   
    The modern Garhwali drama ‘Chyun’ by Nitya Nand Maithani is in the form of folk story. The main character is a foolish young man Sundaru who is getting married. His would be wife saw a dream that a demon caught her seven brothers and all are in stomach of demon. The life of demon is in a special kind of mushroom (‘Chyun’) posed by parrot staying in a Dainkan tree. Sundaru goes in search of parrot and mushroom (‘Chyun’). He met a woman in the way and she tells al ie that a prince killed demon. Sundaru comes back.
                 The drama definitely attacks on blind faith, ignorance and foolishness. However, the drama is not in preaching style but story construction and dialogues tell the objectives of the drama. Nitya Nand Maithani is expert of entertaining with focused objective of communicating moral objectives of life. ‘Chyun’ drama entertains and communicates the moral too.

'वेल..! " मनमोहन जी न बोल.

सेक्रेटरी न ब्वाल,' भाजापा का लोगूँ न आप पर फिर अभियोग लगाईं बल आप निर्णय नी लीन्दा. अर इन सुण्याण मा आई 

बल कंस्टीट्युसन क्लब मा कुछ कॉंग्रेसी बि अनिर्णय का बारा मा आपकी काट करणा छया."

मनमोहन जी न ब्वाल," ओहो! यांक जबाब त संजय निरुपम प्रेस वाळु  दे इ द्यालों. सेक्रेटरी ख़ास ब्रीफ दे भै."

  सेक्रेटरी न अग्वाड़ी ब्रीफ दे,' अन्ना हजारे आज से दसों  दिन रामलीला मैदान मा एक दिनौ मौन अर अनसन करण वाळ छन."

                  When Rajeev Gandhi chose dense forest of Madhya Pradesh as spot for holidaying, the news became attractive factor of Madhya Pradesh tourism industry.
                   The ex-prime minister Atal Vihari Vajpai went Himachal Pradesh for holidaying Himachal Pradesh Tourism got extra mileage.
                The visit of prominent or famous personality to a place is always image enhancer factor for destination branding.

      At the time of Pandu and Dhristrashtra , Garhwal was having a very attractive image for hunting and Tapsya too.
              Pandu the king of Hastinapur used to visit Bhabhar Garhwal, Uttarakhand. There is a place called ‘Panduvalasot’ in Bhabhar , Garhwal, Uttarakhand that reminds us that King Pandu used to visit dense  Shal /Sal forest  in plains of Garhwal.  Mahabharata describes about Garhwal plains as hunting ground for king Pandu as:
सचरन दक्षिणं पार्श्व रम्यं हिमवतो गिरे:
उवास गिरिपृष्ठेषु माहाशाल्वनेषु च
(Mahabharata आदिपर्व ; ११३/८ Adiparv :113/8 )

                                            Tapsya by Pandu in Garhwal, Uttarakhand
      When Pandu had to repent and had to do Tapasya (penance) , Pandu visited Chaitrarath, Kalkoot (Kalsi), Gandhmadhan, Badrikashram, Kedar shrines and did penance in Pandukeshwar and Agystmuni (Mahabharata, Adiparv, आदिपर्व, 118/2-47, 118/48-50, 124/3-4,125/29.
                               Birth Place of Pandvas
  The sons of Pandu were called Pandvas and they were five brothers Yudhisthar, Bhim, Arjun, Nakul and Sahdev. Adiparv of Mahabharata states that Agystmuni was the birth place of Pandavas (Mahabharata, Adiparv, आदिपर्व, 122/123).
                       The above information direct us that Garhwal, Uttarakhand was a famous a famous and useful place at the time of Mahabharata era.
          The visit of a famous personality becomes the platform for public awareness for the place and a factor of enhancing the place image for place branding.
                            The birth place of famous personalities is also appositive factor for place branding.
         In a write up ‘Destination Branding for Small Cities’, a small city brand expert Bill Baker suggests for taking advantage of famous personality visit to the place in place branding.

                    In old age, when there used to be a theft in villages of Garhwal and Kumaun regions of Uttarakhand, India, the effected family used to call expert Mantrik-Tantric for catching the thief/thieves. The expert tantric-Mantrik used to take a Katora(shallow saucer)  Tumdi (dry empty pumpkin) and used to chant specific rite. It is said that the Katora or Tumdi used to reach to the thief or where the theft material is left by thief.
  The following folk rite is to catch thief-

Chhutyan Bald: A Modern Garhwali Drama about Power of Youth Unity

                  ‘Chhutyan Bald’ a one act play by Nitya Nand does not have any particular relationship with culture of Garhwal. The story is weird one. Dr Dabral writes,” If the ‘Chyun’ drama is peak of stupidity or lewdness, the story of ‘Chhutyan Bald’ is weird.”
                   Chimni Devi and Falendi Lal are worried for their daughter’s marriage. Bakhtwar a young man loves or likes the daughter of Chimni Devi and Falendi Lal. However, father of Bakhtwar has other plan. Bakhtwar’s father compels Bakhtwar for marrying another girl. Bakhtwar is getting married and there is marriage procession of Bakhtwar. When the village youth come to know the reality they disturb the marriage procession by herds of bulls and force the guests to run away. The youth take Bakhtwar to the house of Chimni Devi and Falendi Lal.
                    Nitya Nand Maithani used proverbs more than any playwright could do so. The dialogues are the reason for speed into drama and dialogues are as per characters and audience’s point of view.
                      Symbolically, Nitya Nand Maithani is successful in communicating power of youth unity in any community.

                  Yesterday morning, I got a call from Dakkhu kaka from my village. Instead of asking me sending funds for village development he said,” Bhishma! You are fool. You should know how to beg.”
 I replied,” Dakkhu Kaka!  I did not understand anything.”
 Dakkhu Kaka said,” I mean you should learn how to beg. First of all you should forget that you are from such a community where begging is bad word.”
I said,” Yes!  Garhwalis don’t beg at religious place.”
Dakkhu Kaka said without listening me,” you should never care that you are Bahuguna or Uniyal before begging.”
I said, “But  ...”
Dakkhu Kaka,” You should forget about historical pride when you beg.”
I wanted to ask,’ Why should I...”
Dakkhu Kaka said,” While begging, you should always call ‘Bada Bhai’ or elder brother even the donor is younger than you.”
I said,” But, I...Begging...”
Dakkhu Kaka said,” Before begging, you should declare publicly even before TV press reporters that you are the brazen beggar in this earth.”
I said,” But I don’t need….”
Dakkhu Kaka said,” You should shamelessly forget that you are chief minister of state before begging.”
I said, “But I am not…”
Dakkhu Kaka said,” You should barefacedly lower down the self esteem of your community, your relatives and your state before other communities and in front of foreign communities.”
I said, “But ...”
Dakkhu Kaka said,” While begging your motto should for diminishing your pride, your family’s pride, you relative’s pride and people of your state. There should be acute withdrawing the pride related to you at the time of begging”
I said,” Why should I  ...”
Dakkhu Kaka said,” Before begging, you should blatantly give the statement that historically and by caste you are beggar of beggars.”
I said,” Dakkhu Kaka! Why should I beg and... ?”
Dakkhu Kaka said,” Because our chief minister Vijay Bahuguna ji declared that we all Uttarakhandi are beggars by caste.”
I said,” but…”
Dakkhu Kaka concluded,” we all Uttarakhandis decided that from now we shall follow our chief minister Vijay Bahuguna Jee; we shall not work at all and will go all out for begging. We Uttarakhandis will proof that we the smartest beggars in this galaxy. Now you will get phone calls from your friends and relative for how we Uttarakhandis can be clever beggars.”

                 In the Mahabharata Era, Garhwal had importance with the King, Prince, princesses and administrative heads of Hastinapur or Bharat nation with Garhwal, Uttarakhand.
                                     Son of Arjun   Irwan’s Mother was Garhwali
                     It is a common knowledge that in Mahbharata era,  Pandavas had a common wife Draupadi too . There was ruling that when Draupadi is with a Pandava brother other Pandava will not enter into room.  If anybody breaks the rule he had to go out for twelve years as repent. Once Arjun broke the rule and as repent remedy Arjun had to leave Indraprashth and pass the living in forest.
                 Arjun reached Gangadwar (Haridwar area). There Arjun met Ulipi a princessesof Nagraj Kauravya. Ulipi fell in love with Arjun. Both married there through Gandharva ways of marriage. They had ason Irwan. Irwan fought Kurukshetra battle and as killed for protecting Pandavas.

                                                        Winning Uttarakhand by Arjun
   Yudhisthar organized a Rajsuya Yagya(A battle Yagyaa for winning territories) . Arjun won the territory of uttarakhnad.

              There are many folk rites for calling or dispatching away the satanic spirit, devil, evil spirit, elfish or   demon in every society especially among old civilization. Everywhere Necromancy, Demonology, Evocation, Thaumaturgy, Hermetic, Theurgy, Theosophy, Candomble, Witchcraft,    etc were common in earlier age.  For example Paul G.Hiebert and R.D. Shaw (Understanding Folk religion); E.C.Takacs (Christian Demonology.); G. Massy (ancient Egypt) provide examples of such concepts in various old and new civilizations.
  The following is a Folk rite performed by Mantrik in Garhwal and Kumaun for taking away evil spirit from Pashwa or patient.
