MUZAFFARNAGAR: A CBI court has deferred the case on the 1994 police firing on Uttarakhand Sangarsh Samiti (USS) activists to April 23 following deposition by a police constable.
Constable Sanjiv Kumar, previously said to have sustained bullet wounds in a clash with the activists, deposed before Special CBI Magistrate Piyush Pandey that he had not been present on the site of firing.
Six Samiti activists were killed and several injured in the firing on October 2, 1994, when the group had been marching to Delhi to press for a separate Uttarakhand state.
The High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry into the incident on January 12, 1995.
Cases had earlier been slapped on the USS members for allegedly attacking the police. A police officer is now facing charges of framing false cases against them
