Jagson Airlines plans to operate flights to Mansarowar
New Delhi: Jagson Airlines Limited (JAL), the pioneer in domestic aviation, is now eyeing to provide flight facility to the major pilgrimage destinations in Northern India and other regions including Mansarowar Lake. Speaking to the media on Thursday, J P Gupta Chairman Jagson Airlines said, “JAL is undergoing talks with the Uttrakhand government for the no objection certificate to operate flights between Delhi and Mansarowar via Pantnagar, which has a heliport.

Adding further he said, “The fourteen days journey to Mansarowar would reduce to merely two days with this service. We would operate the largest 26-seated Helicopter MI-172 to carry devotees from Delhi to Mansarowar (Tibet, China) in an affordable tariffs.”

Gupta also mentioned that other airlines are busy in operating at the commercial destination and the religious places are ignored. Therefore, JAL would concentrate on religious places so that common people can travel at ease. “We would try to provide flight facility to routes, which do not have rail or flight connection, he added.”

There are certain destinations in Northern India like Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh which are difficult to travel. Keeping this in mind Gupta announced, “JAL is going to start its service to Pithoragarh and Pantnagar shortly. We are also going to acquire four more 60-70 seated ATR and Dash aircrafts and one MI ? 172 Helicopter.”

Gupta even informed that the Civil Aviation Ministry has granted no objection certificate to operate, under the new policy of Regional Schedule Airlines, JAL has started the 55-minutes flights from Juhu (Mumbai) to Shirdi for the first time to facilitate the devotees of Saibaba. “JAL has included three eminent retied IAS officers as Board of Directors. They are Probir Chandrasen, RC Jain and Vinod Vaish,” stated Gupta.

For tourism and overall development transport is a key factor.Good transport system and proper accomodation is must for further growth of tourism in the area.
Air transport is rather more important in hill areas coz other modes of transport fail to meet the requirment in case of any emergency or evacuation as rightly mentioned by you. Also I think there are many tourist areas in the state where its very difficult to reach by road which make air transport as the  only solution to promote those areas for tourists and overall development for locals.

Sir Ji,

This is an long outstanding issue. People of UK were hoping that they would travel by air but unfortuantely that day has not come. In fact, Mulayam Sing Yadav who was CM of UP on those days, had kept the foundation of that airport but due to lack of strong representation this is still pending.

Asnotising fact that even after 7 yrs, none of the CM of UK ever thought about this.

Sir .. thoda sa... taza tasveer le ke aana.. kya condition hai ab iski.

The Uttarakhand Government has completed the upgradation work at the Jolly Grant Airport and Pant Nagar Airport. The airports are scheduled to start operations in February, 2008. Besides, three airstrips at Naini Saini in Pithorgarh, Gochar in Chamoli and Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi are also ready for operations.

Talking to TravelBiz Monitor, Prakash Pant, Minister of Tourism, Uttarakhand, said, “The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has said that it will start operations at these airports by the last week of February.” The state has already written to all the airlines, asking them to start operations to Uttarakhand. Till date, it has got responses from Indian Airlines, Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines.

While Deccan will initially start with a frequency of two flights a week, the other two airlines are yet to decide on their flight frequency. Prior to the commencement of the upgradation work, Indian Airlines, Jagson Airlines and Air Deccan operated from the airports. “After the upgradation, the airports now have the capacity to handle the landing of Airbus 320 and Boeing 787. The Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun essentially caters to the Gharwal region in the state, while the Pant Nagar Airport caters to the Kumano region,” offered Pant.

Commenting on the need to extend helicopter operations in the state, Pant said, “We want to extend the helicopter facility to the Char Dhams of Uttarakhand, i.e. Gangotri, Yamnotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. We would also like to extend it to Hemkunth Sahib, the renowned religious pilgrimage site of the Sikhs. The government will provide free water, security, power, fire services, etc, to the helipads.”

At present, talks are going on with Jagson Airlines, Prabhatam Aviation and Pawan Hans Helicopter Services, and Jagson Airlines has already evinced interest in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which the state is keen to promote through helitourism. The state government has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gharwal Mandal Vikas and Pawan Hans Helicopter Services for developing religious tourism in the state.

Currently, the state has 64 helipads, of which 40 are controlled by the state government, while the rest are under the control of the Indo Tibetian Border Police Force (ITBP). Of the 40 state-owned helipads, 15 are still under construction.
