Uttarakhand: 10 killed as vehicle falls into river
Ten members of a marriage party, including six people belonging to a brass band, were killed when the vehicle in which they were travelling, skidded off the road and fell into a river in Chamoli district on Sunday night.
According to state government officials, a Tata Sumo vehicle of a marriage party went missing from the road around 10 pm on Sunday. The relatives, with the help of police, launched a hunt for the missing vehicle and it was only early in the morning on Monday that people saw Parkash, the sole survivor of the accident, clinging to a rock. He was rescued and the vehicle found in the riverbed.
The marriage party was on its way to Sonali village in Chamoli district from Shivnanda village when the vehicle rolled down more than a hundred metres into the fast-flowing Alaknanda river.
According to police, six of the deceased belong to a brass band group accompanying the marriage party. The driver of the vehicle along with a photographer and two others died in the accident.
