Lagta hai pandeyji ke acting career mai ye serial ek meel ka pathar sabit hoga, Kamal ki acting kar rahe hai hemant da. or serial mai unke pass acting ka scope bhi bahut hai .. kabhi ek gusail pati ka roop, kabhi dare hue gramin ka roop, to kabhi ek Lalchi bap ka roop. Ab to wo Gav ke mukhiya ke roop mai aa gaye hai. Maza aa raha hai serial mai.

Devi team visits City of Joy

Kolkata, Mar 26 (IBNS) As part of the promotion for their telly serial, the cast Imagine TV's 'Neer Bhare Tere Naina - Devi' visited Kolkata on Friday evening.

The show about the life of a 5-year-old girl Lakshmi who is made to act like a goddess by her father and uncle in order to exploit the villagers has been receiving overwhelming response across the country according to the channel.

The lead actors Hemant Pandey and Deepali Pansare were in town to meet their fans.

Pandey who plays Ghasita (Lakshmi's father) said he was glad to be in the city.

"Devi's storyline is very interesting and I believe it has found its place in the hearts of the viewers. The show is gaining tremendous popularity especially in Kolkata which is why we are visiting the city today," he said.

Talking about his role, the actor said: "Ghasita is common man enslaved by greed. He used to be very poor and then he got this golden opportunity where the villager's started believing his daughter to be a goddess. He immediately started exploiting them to get rich and forced his daughter to pretend to be a goddess."

A man of comedy, Pandey said he was slightly taken aback when the director approached him to play such a role.

"Much of the credit for the serial goes to the channel and director Anshuman Kishore Singh for helping me do this role which is very different from things that I have been doing" he said.

"I used to be apprehensive about my role and its acceptability. There's a saying 'Don't fix what ain't broken' and this would be going against it. But the thirst for something different made me do it."

Hailing from a small village in Uttarakhand, Pandey has earlier played a prominent in Office Office - considered a classic comedy show on Indian television and also a comic role in 'Krrish' among other movies and serials.

On being asked upon his first negative role, Pandey said, "It wasn't a negative role initially. It's the greed that drove this poverty-stricken pan to something so cruel."

"Every time I get out of my house these days I get these dark looks from women and it's kind of a mixed feeling of satisfaction of doing the role right and anxiety of an attack" he jokingly said.

A Pranayam fan, Pandey started his career through theatres and street-plays and then decided to come to Mumbai.

"Comedy has indeed been my forte, and even today I find it quite difficult to stay serious. But a good actor is like clay he can be moulded into almost anything," he said.

In the serial, Ghasita forbids his younger daughter Lakshmi from going to school fearing that the truth about her not being an incarnation of a goddess would be revealed to the villagers.

However, despite her husband's pressure of maintaining an instilled ignorance in the minds of the villagers that Lakshmi is a 'Devi', Suhagi, Lakshmi's mother in the serial, played by Deepali Pansare keeps fighting the battle of giving her daughter a normal childhood.

"Her (Suhagi's) prime objective is to ensure that like her father and uncle, Lakshmi does not get carried away by this lie. She cares for both her daughters and always stands up to fight for what's right for her daughter" said Deepali Pansare.

Pansare, who has done small roles in serials like 'Dill Mill Gayye' and 'Shakuntala' and some Marathi films says it was a challenge for her to play such a conservative married Indian woman.

"You'd be surprised to know that initially I did not like kids (laughs). I was't very comfortable with them and they always made me nervous. It was through the course of this serial that I grew close to Reem and we bonded amazingly. We even play games together. That's one thing the serial gave me" she said.

Child actor Reem Shaikh, who who plays Lakshmi aka Devi, couldn't make it as she was unwell.

The serial which has aired around 40 episodes, has already brought up crucial issues domestic violence, the prejudice against polio and chicken pox vaccines is fast gaining popularity in rural India.

"One of the issues that we regularly focus on in the serial is that of female education. Suhagi couldn't study much and it is through her daughter that she wants to see her dreams of getting educated and being respected, come true. I think a lot women in villages can relate to that" said Pansare.

Pansare studied engineering, did a corporate job and then gave it all up for her dream of acting.

"My parents were a bit shocked to see me give up such a 'secure and stable' life but then they slowly, thanks to my sister, understood my need to pursue my dreams and they supported me," she said.

Originally from Nasik, Pansare now lives with her sister in Mumbai.

The serial which is currently being shot in Naigon, about 90 minutes from Mumbai is based on a true story, according to Imagine.
