Roop Kund

Pranam Mahar Ji,

Roopkund situated at a height of 5029m in the lap of Trishuli massif. This area is usually called is the ‘mystery lake’, since human skeletons and remains of horses from the paleolithic age were found here.

Q1- last station for the bus/ jeep & the Base camp
An- The last bus station is Loharjung & GMVN guest house is also available. From Loharjung Kuling is 6km & Wan is further 4 km & till Wan it is jeepable road or one can trek till the point. In Wan GMVN is present near Golu Deva temple.
Wan/ Kuling is the last village for this trek

Q2- Porters & Guide
An- Porter & Guide is available in Loharjung, Kuling & Wan village. They will charge Parter @ 350 & Guide @ 500, one can also heir pony (lil expensive). We have heir the guide & porter from Wan as one of my friend has given the reference of his. His name is TS Bisht (Gugari). He also arrange stove, ration, kerosene on charges bases.

Q3- Tracking equipment
An- You will get the equipment in Loharjung but the quality is not good. We have our own equipment, but you have to arrange from Delhi or Rishikesh maximum or if possible test the equipment first.

Q4- Iternery
An- Below is the Iternery
Day 1: Reach kathgodam Railway station (6.30 am). Whole day drive to Loharjung &  Night stay at Loharjung
Day 2: Trek starts. Loharjung to Tolpani (via Didana) or can go to Wan
Day 3: Wan/ Tolpani to Bedni Bugyal (via Ali Bugyal)
Day 4: Bedni Bugyal to Ghoral Lotani
Day 5: Ghora Lotani to Bhagwabasa
Day 6: Bhagwabasa to Roopkund and back to Bedni Bugyal
Day 7: Bedni Bugyal to Loharjung via Wan
Day 8: Depart for Haridwar. Approximate arrival time at Haridwar: 4.00 — 5.00 pm.
From RK you also further go to Hoom Kund & the trek end in Sethul (its required some more days)
As it is very easy (no hurdle) but high altitude trek one has good stamina & do exercise & running atlest 2 month prior. It needs a mental as well as physical stamina & the will power to complete the trek

Q5- Best Time
A1- Best time is

To see snow- june end is the time when snow will start melting & can do the snow trek too but changes are you may or may not reach roopkund. As it will be shine yon can see the peaks very clear.
If there will snow, getting drinking water will be difficult

To see alpines/ bugyal- August/ Sep is the time to see the whole mountain in the carpet of green soft grass with yellow, blue, white & pink flower welcoming you. ………………… just like heaven but many time you will find the rain & peaks will be not visible
Also you can get to see Bharam Kamal, Blue Poppy, Fain Kamal & other herbal plants & high altitude flowers.

In Feb the whole area will be under snow……. & in Oct you will not see the green carpet but the burn grasses & chances of snow is on higher reach.

Note: If you plan the trek in last week of Aug or 1st week of Sep you can also do it along with Choti Nanda Devi Raaj Jat Yatra which goes till Bedni Kund & after that you can trek to roopkund

Heights
Wan- 2436 mtr/ 8000 ft
Bedni Bugyal- 3350 mtr/ 11000 ft
Bagubasa- 4100 mtr / 13450 ft
Roopkund- 5029 mtr / 15600 ft

On the way to Wan village

Me on way to RK along with the garden of Bharam Kamal

Hi Himanshu,
It is possible to visit JCP in 3 days. Chandigarh to Dehradun & from Dehradun there is a direct bus for Nanital, which crosses Haldwani & then you can reach Ram Nagar,
You do not need any prior reservation for JCP but it is good to book a hotel in advance (it will save some time) & from the office of JC you can hire a jeep for JB

To visit near by areas will be Manilla Devi Temple.  Nanital will be quite far a 3 day visit, even JC will be quite tight.

The itenery wil be like (please check the bus timing)
Chandigarh- Dehradun- Ramnagar
Jim Corbet- Manila Devi- Ramnagar
Ramnagar- Dehradun- Chandigarh

Cheers

Narayan Ashram is situated at at an elevation of 2734 mts. above sea level.  It can be reached from Pithoragarh via Ogla(44 from Pithoragarh), Jauljibi(77), Dharchula(94), Tawaghat (108). Tawaghat is the place where Dhauliganga and Kaliganga meet.

From Tawaghat, 10 kms road is good two lane road due to construction of the Dhauladhar Dam on the river Dhauliganga. New Sobla town (approx 10 kms from Tawaghat) onwards the road is very narrow, steep and muddy with chances of landslides at some places. 25 kms approx from New Sobla Town on this road. So the driver has to be careful !

The ashram was established by Sri Narayan Swami in 1936. It can accommodate at the most 40 persons at a time. During winter season the ashram remains closed due to heavy snowfall. And rainy season may cause damage to the road. Ashram keeps on conducting various social - spiritual activities for the members so the visitors are strictly advised to convey about their plan to the ashram well in advance.

The contact details for the ashram are as under

1. Ms Gangotri Bahan Garbyal, Vyavasthapika, Narayan Swami Ashram, Dharchula, Pithoragarh
2. Narayan Ashram Trust, C/O GopalJi and Co, 218, Samual Street, Mumbai - 400003
