A seminar-discussion devoted to the understanding of border areas. The districts of Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and the adjoining districts of Tehri, Rudra Prayag and Bageshwar are the regions with glaciers, all the origins of the mighty rivers are in them, and maximum out migration is continuing from these areas. These districts were the most neglected in UP and in Uttarakhand today too. We shall try to understand the natural setting, the situation of glaciers, rivers, passes, bugyals and impact of globalisation, climate change and hydel projects in these districts. The river connects the villages and people but not the dams. How the river gives us life, sustains agriculture and how it also needed at the time of death. Without the healthy life of our RIVERS we can not think about our lives. Let us dream and work for conserving the glaciers and  rivers by not doing any thing which increases the temperature of the planet, by protecting trees, increasing oak and allied species, digging pits for retaining rain water, negating consumerism and searching other collective ways for saving our soil, forests and waters. We shall look at the impact of globalisation on mountain communities and also the future impact of climate change.  Scientists, elected representatives, administrators and citizens will participate and chalk out a participatory action plan.
Invited Participants:  Prof. A.N. Purohit, Shri S.S. Pangtey, Dr. R.S.Tolia, Dr. R.B.S. Rawat, Dr. Rajendra Doval, Dr. Harshwanti Bisht, Shri. Pradeep Tamta, Dr. Shamsher Bisht, Dr. J.S.
J.S. Mehta, Dr. Rakesh Sundriyal, Dr. R.K. Maikhuri, Dr. M.M. Kimothi, Prof. B.S. Butola, Shri Harish Chandola, Shri Anusuya Prasad Bhatt, Shri Navin Joshi,
