मीना राणा, अनुराधा निराला एव कल्पना चौहान - उत्तराखंड की प्रसिद्ध लोक गायिका !

These above three women singers are the famous women folk Singer of UK at present. These singers have been rendering their services to UK's music since long.

One common thing between these three singers is that they sing songs on both the regional languages of UK i.e. (Kumoani and Garwali). This is really a good sign for UK's music.

I am sure future singing aspirants will follow them  and would take UK's music long ahead.

Let us discuss about these three prominent women folk singers of UK.

वैसे कल्पना जी का परिवार उत्तराखंड के music से जुडा है. इनके पति राजेंद्र चौहान उत्तराखंडी music के संगीतकर है और उनका पुत्र रोहित चौहान जो की एक बल कलाकार गायक है और उत्तराखंडी music को आपना योगदान दे रही है !

कल्पना चौहान की तरह मीना राणा के पति संजय कमोला भी उत्तराखंडी संगीत के निर्देशक है ! ये दोनों उत्तराखंड के संगीत को लंबे समय से अपना योगदान दे रहे है !

Meena Rana
 Meena RanaMeena Rana is a prolific Uttaranchali singer who can be heard on many Garhwali and Kumaoni music albums.

She has sung with Narendra Singh Negi, Pritam Bharatwan, Fauji Lalit Mohan Joshi, Gajendra Rana, Anil Bisht and other famous Uttaranchali singers. Her own releases include "Raajuli" and "Saruli".

I am writing this not to hurt anybody's sentiments but to bring to the kind notice of my fellow members the pathetic stage of Pahadi music. 

For the people of my generation (40+) Kumauni music (I am talking about recorded music) began with Heera Singh Rana and Gopal Babu Goswamy, two legendary singers.  After that, not even a single singer has enjoyed that kind of popularity because they could not match the versatility of Rana ji or mellifluousness of Goswamyji.  The next Kumauni singers who enjoy some acceptance are Lalit Mohan Fauji or Diwan Kandwal.  But if you listen to songs sung by these two singers you will agree that they are trying to match the tempo of Hindi/Punjab songs called 'Po(aa)p' and lack in quality.  So far as female Kumauni singers are concerned, I am yet to hear any pleasing sound, let along singing.

Similarly in Garhwali music, Narendra Singh Negi seems to be the lone torch bearer at present (Chandra Singh Rahi seems to have faded out).  Preetam Barthwan and Gajendra Rana started with hit releases but choked now.  Nobody is as yet ready to take over from Negiji.  There are a few female singers in Garhwali but they are not even worth mentioning.  Meena Rana showed some promise early on when she had lilting voice but now she has acquired hoarseness which is jarring.  Chauhan never had a good voice and has some atrocious songs to her credit.  The likes of Hema Dhyani are not even worth mentioning. 

Almost all the new singers coming up now do not have any voice training, lack in pronunciation of the "theth' words and seem to be in a hurry.  They are being exploited by the recording companies who want to cash on the new-found interest.

So, all in all Pahadi music is waiting for a singer (male or female) who can carry forward. 

Any new voice that is promising?  Please inform all of us as we are eagerly waiting.

100 % agree with your comment. I also do not any prominent singer from both the regions to carry forward the music of Uttarakhand.

After a few hits, singer diappared from the limelight.

Tomorrow, we have a get-togther at Delhi where we have invited all the famous singers of Uttarakhand. We would like to say a few words on this issue there.

Even yesterdayduring our programme in Delhi. The great singer of Uttarkhand Shree Heera Singh Rana ji was also expressing his views on the subject. He told that it is really a challenge for new generation to carry forward the cultural heritage of UK music.

Meena Rana has been singing for the last one decade or so. She has got very meledous voice.

She has sung songs in all the regional languages of UK.. Kumoani & GArwali and even Jaunsari.

Several new comers are now assuming her their idol. Her Husband Sanjay Kumola is also a popular singer.
