In Kotdwar, his cousin Deva Nand Balodi had been publishing a weekly ‘Yuva Swapan. Deva Nand Balodi became busy in political activities with All India Congress. Deva Nand Balodi is now at higher post in Congress party in communication and public relation cell of Congress. Deva Nand requested Prem Balodi
To look after ‘Yuva Swapn’ a weekly, Prem Balodi never dreamt about being journalistas he was preparing an exam for being Railway station Master after his retirement from Indian Navy. However, Prem took the challenge and started taking interest in publication of ‘Yuva Swapn’. The experience of Navy discipline and quest for survival in all odd conditions became the tools for Prem Balodi in handling the publication of weekly ‘Yuva Swapn’.
In 2001, Prem Balodi left ‘Yuva Swapn’ and started his own weekly ‘Shailvani’ from Kotdwara. From 1996 Prem  got deep relations with research scholars as Dr Nand Kishor Dhoundiya, Dr Baluni Dr ran veer Sing Chauhan educationist Prem lal Bhatt, poet as Chakr Dhar Kukreti and many more.  Prem kept a principle for ‘Shailvani’ weekly that ‘Shailvani’ would prefer publishing research oriented articles. Till date, Prem balodi is successfully abiding his motto of providing importance to researches on Garhwal in weekly ‘Shailvani’ .
Prem Balodi is born businessman too who well understood that for long run publication of a weekly requires financial strength. There is no doubt that honest journalism requires money/funds for long run.

Famous Journalists and Editors of Uttarakhand

Keshar Singh Bisht:  Strong Believer of Discussion and Debate a Must

                                                  Bhishm Kukreti

Keshar Singh believes that discussion and debate among intellectuals and other stake holders of the society is a must for society.  The article-series by Dr Rajeshwar Uniyal against Rajesndra Sharma of Garhwal Bhratri Mandal a social organization of Mumbai;  hot exchanges of words between Dr rajeshwar Uniyal and Bhishm Kukreti (famous writer Hema Uniyal called these exchanges of very bad taste) ;exchanges or discussion about anonymous writer about visit of chief minister Bhuwan chandra Khanduri  to Pratibha Naithabi  and not to the house of late Arjun Singh Guasain and Bhishm Kukreti/Dr Asha naithai; a debate /exchange of words between Baldev ran verses Rathod and kala in weekly Janam Bhumi Uttaranchal edited and published by Keshar singh Bisht is the proof that he invites controversies in journalism. Before the article series of Dr Uniyal in janm Bhumi Uttaranchal weekly , it was unheard to criticize our own society members so openly in Mumbai. Uttarakhandi used to follow ‘Mukh-Mulajya” principle.
Keshar Singh Bisht was born in Kepar village of Basar Patti of Tihri Garhwal in 1967. After completing B.Sc(Mathematic) from Mumbai University, Keshar  singh joined ‘Nirbhay Pathik. From that period Bisht worked with news papers as Sunday Observer (Hindi edition), Hamara mahangar, Kuwait times,  Dopahar Do Baje and did freelancing journalistic activities too. Working with afternoon news papers as editorial team members, Bisht came to understand the importance of debate among personalities and significance of controversial articles.
In 1997, Keshar Singh Bisht joined editorial team of Mumbai edition of ‘Nav Bharat’ a newspaper of Nagpur.Nnav Bharat’ is one of the leading Hindi news papers of Vidarbha, MP and Chhatisgarh. Keshar Singh Bisht is deputy editor with ‘Nav Bharat’
Keshar singh Bisht started a monthly magazine about Uttarakhand ‘ Dandi Kanthi’. ‘Dandi kanthi’ was very famous among writers and readers of Uttarakhand because of fine getup, well edited magazine, and contents. Keshar Singh had to close down the magazine because of financial reasons. It is always that a journalist can’t be always successful in generating resources and it is part and partial of regional journalism.
Keshar Singh Bisht brought a Hindi weekly ‘Janm Bhumi Uttaranchal’ in 2006. The weekly became instant hit among Uttarakhandi of Mumbai.
Keshar singh Bisht is also famous for organizing 'Kauthig' in Mumbai in Big way.
