उत्तराखण्ड मूल के पहले व्यक्ति जिन्हें खेल के क्षेत्र में देश का सर्वोच्च पुरस्कार "राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार" मिला- महेन्द्र सिंह धौनी।

यह अल्मोड़ा जिले के लमगड़ा तहसील के ल्वाली गांव के मूल निवासी हैं।

देश में पहली महिला पुलिस महानिदेशक
 
   
कंचन चौधरी भट्टाचार्य
कंचन चौधरी के ही जीवन पर बना था मशहूर धारावाहिक उड़ान
कंचन चौधरी भट्टाचार्य देश की पहली महिला आईपीएस अधिकारी हैं जिन्हें किसी राज्य का पुलिस महानिदेशक बनाया गया है.

1973 बैच की आईपीएस अधिकारी कंचन चौधरी ने इस लिहाज़ से इतिहास बनाया है.

उन्हें मंगलवार को उत्तरांचल के पुलिस महानिदेशक का पद सौंपा गया.

साढ़े तीन साल पहले बने उत्तरांचल राज्य की वह तीसरी डीजीपी हैं. इससे पहले अशोककांत शरण और पी डी रतूड़ी इस पद पर रह चुके हैं.

दूरदर्शन पर 1990 के दशक में जिन्होंने भी उड़ान नाम का धारावहिक देखा होगा, कंचन चौधरी को देखकर उसके दृश्य ज़रूर ताज़ा हो जाएंगे.

सादगी से भरी कंचन चौधरी भट्टाचार्य के व्यक्तित्व में स्त्री सुलभ सौम्यता तो है लेकिन साथ उतनी ही पेशेवर दृढ़ता भी है.

आला पुलिस अधिकारियों के साथ पहली बैठक में उन्होंने इस बात के संकेत दे दिए. उन्होंने कहा, “जो लोग भी पुलिस सेवा में रहते हुए ग़लत काम कर रहे हैं वे सही रास्ते पर आ जाएँ वरना मेरे पास ज़्यादा वक्त नहीं है और फिर मैं ऐक्शन लेने में देर नहीं करूँगी.”

मेरा ध्यान जनता की तक़लीफों को दूर करने पर तो होगा ही मैं ये भी देखूंगी कि आम पुलिसकर्मियों की मुश्किलें भी दूर हों ताकि उनमें हीन भावना न आए

Established in 1847 AD as Roorkee College the institute was the first engineering college of the Country/ Uttaranchal

DR. PITAMBAR DUTT BARTHWAL

Dr. Pitambar Dutt Barthwal will be remembered as a great educationalist and journalist throughout the country as he became the first man to have been honored with a degree of D.Litt. in the Hindi language. He was born in December 1901 in Pali village near Lansdown in district Pauri Garhwal. He was honored with the degree of ‘Doctor of literature’ in convocation in 1933 on his research work in ‘Hindi Kavya Mein Nirgun Bad’ at the age of 32. Unfortunately, his dedication and hard work in the field of education adversely affected his heath and he expired on 24th July 1944 at his native village.

Devika CHAUHAN FIRST WOMEN GRADUATE FROM UK

Devika Chauhan was the first girl to graduate from Jaunsar hills in 1954. She, again was the first woman to become a Block Development Officer in the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. She later rose to the level of Asst. Director - tribal welfare. Played an important part in the survey of tribal communities in the UP hills and securing privileges from Government for them. Retired but comitted to women's cause, She is still working with voluntary agencies in Jaunsar Bawar. Currently lives in Dehradun with a number of children.

Charlieveli Hotel:

This was the first hotel in Mussoorie. Charlieveli Hotel was only hotel in India, which was under Queen Mary, who later became Queen of Britain. Since the last century till independence this hotel was very famous both in India and abroad.
Cloud End A British major had a building constructed in 1838. This beautiful building was converted into hotel and was named Cloud End. It got the name because it appears that the clouds have ended here. From this place one can have a good view of the valley. Cloud end is located some eight kilometers west of Mussoorie hills. Due to its location, at the end of horizon, it is very popular among the Honeymooners and Foreign tourists.

First Military School [INDIAN]

The Prince of Wales Royal Indian Military College, Dehradun, now the Rashtriya Indian Military School (RIMC) was inaugurated on March 13, 1922 by his Royal Highness, Prince Edward VIII, the Prince of Wales to provide preliminary training to boys of Indian birth or domicile wishing to become officers in the Armed forces of India, with a strength of 37 students. Nestling in the foothills of the Shivalik ranges in the sylvan surroundings of the Doon Valley, the RIMC has a sprawling campus of 138 acres, where it houses 250 boys selected from every state strictly on merit.
