Sirakot Temple (pithoragarh)

Sirakot Temple is located in the inner part of Sirakot Fort. It is situated 2 km from Didihat in Pithoragarh District. It was built by Reka kings. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Bhairava. Now the temple is in ruin state. It offers a fascinating view of the Himalayas. Nearby destinations are Dharchula, Munsiyari and Askot. The nearest airbase is Pant Nagar Airport. The nearest railhead is at Tanakpur.

कमलेश्वर/सिद्धेश्वर मंदिर

यह श्रीनगर का सर्वाधिक पूजित मंदिर  है। कहा जाता है कि जब देवता असुरों से युद्ध में परास्त होने लगे तो भगवान विष्णु ने सुदर्शन चक्र प्राप्त करने के लिये भगवान शिव की आराधना की। उन्होंने उन्हें 1,000 कमल फूल अर्पित किये (जिससे मंदिर का नाम जुड़ा है) तथा प्रत्येक अर्पित फूल के साथ भगवान शिव के 1,000 नामों का ध्यान किया। उनकी जांच के लिये भगवान शिव ने एक फूल को छिपा दिया। भगवान विष्णु ने जब जाना कि एक फूल कम हो गया तो उसके बदले उन्होंने अपनी एक आंख (आंख को भी कमल कहा जाता है)चढ़ाने का निश्चय किया। उनकी भक्ति से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान शिव ने उन्हें सुदर्शन चक्र प्रदान कर दिया, जिससे उन्होंने असुरों का विनाश किया।

चूंकि भगवान विष्णु ने कार्तिक महीने में शुक्ल पक्ष के चौदहवें दिन सुदर्शन चक्र प्राप्त किया था, इसलिये बैकुंठ चतुर्दशी का उत्सव यहां बड़े धूम-धाम से मनाया जाता है। यही वह दिन है जब संतानहीन माता-पिता एक जलते दीये को अपनी हथेली पर रखकर खड़े रहकर रात-भर पूजा करते हैं। माना जाता है कि उनकी इच्छा पूरी होती है। इसे खड रात्रि कहा जाता है और कहा जाता है कि भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने स्वयं इस मंदिर पर अपनी पत्नी जामवंती के आग्रह पर इस प्रकार की पूजा की थी।

           

कहा जाता है कि इस मंदिर का ढ़ांचा देवों द्वारा आदि शंकराचार्य की प्रार्थना पर तैयार किया गया, जो उन 1,000 मंदिरों में से एक है, जिसका निर्माण रातों-रात गढ़वाल में हुआ था। मूलरूप में यह एक खुला मंदिर था जहां 12 नक्काशीपूर्ण सुंदर स्तंभ थे। संपूर्ण निर्माण काले पत्थरों से हुआ है, जिसे संरक्षण के लिये रंगा गया है। वर्ष 1960 के दशक में बिड़ला परिवार ने इस मंदिर को पुनर्जीवित किया तथा इसके इर्द-गिर्द दीवारें बना दी।

यहां का शिवलिंग स्वयंभू है तथा मंदिर से भी प्राचीन है। कहा जाता है कि गोरखों ने इस शिवलिंग को खोदकर निकालना चाहा पर 122 फीट जमीन खोदने के बाद भी वे लिंग का अंत नहीं पा सके। तब उन्होंने क्षमा याचना की, गढ़ढे को भर दिया तथा मंदिर को यह कहकर प्रमाणित किया कि मंदिर में कोई तोड़-फोड़ नहीं हो सकता। अन्य प्राचीन प्रतिमाओं में एक खास, सुंदर एवं असामान्य गणेश की प्रतिमा है। वे पद्माशन में बैठे है, एक कमंडल हाथ में है तथा गले से लिपटा एक सांप है। ऐसी चीजें जो उनके पिता भगवान शिव से संबद्ध होती हैं।     

           

मंदिर को पंवार राजाओं का संरक्षण प्राप्त था तथा उन्होंने 64 गांवों का अनुदान दिया, जिसकी आय से ही मंदिर का खर्च चलाया जाता था। बलभद्र शाह के समय (वर्ष 1575-1591) का रिकार्ड, प्रदीप शाह के समय (वर्ष 1755) का तांबे का प्लेट एवं प्रद्युम्न शाह (वर्ष 1787) तथा गोरखों का समय प्रमाणित करते हैं कि मंदिर का उद्भव एवं पवित्रता प्राचीन है। आयुक्त ट्रैल ने कोलकाता भेजे गये अपने रिपोर्ट में गढ़वाल के जिन पांच महत्त्वपूर्ण मंदिरों का वर्णन किया था उनमें से एक यह मंदिर भी था।

मंदिर के बगल में बने भवन भी उतने ही पुराने हैं तथा छोटे-छोटे कमरे की भूल-भुलैया जैसे हैं और प्रत्येक कमरे से दूसरे कमरे में जाया जा सकता है जिसे घूपरा कहते है। कहा जाता है कि जब गोरखों का आक्रमण हुआ तो प्रद्युम्न शाह यहीं किसी कमरे में तब तक छिपा रहा, जहां से कि सुरक्षित अवस्था में उसे बाहर निकाल लिया गया। मंदिर के पीछे, का वर्गाकार स्थल का इस्तेमाल परंपरागत रूप से श्रीनगर के प्रसिद्ध रामलीला के लिये होता रहा है। वर्ष 1894 में गोहना झील में आए उफान से विनाशकारी बाढ़ में शहर का अधिकांश भाग बह गया लेकिन मंदिर को क्षति नहीं पहुंची।

कहा जाता है कि नदी का जलस्तर बढ़ता गया लेकिन ज्यों ही मंदिर के शिवलिंग से स्पर्श हुआ, जल स्तर कम हो गया। अगस्त 1970 में जब झील की दीवाल ढह गयी तो पुन: विशाल भू-स्खलन हुआ लेकिन मंदिर अछूता रहा।

मंदिर के महंथ आशुतोष पुरी के अनुसार मंदिर का प्रशासन सदियों से पुरी वंश के महंथों के हाथ रहा है। यहां गुरू-शिष्य परंपरा का पालन होता है तथा प्रत्येक महंथ अपने उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में अपने सबसे निपुण शिष्य को चुनता है।

Shiv Gauraksh Temple

Shiv Gauraksh Temple in Haridwar was constructed in the year 1956, in the memory of Bhartrihari, the author of ‘Neeti Shatak’, ‘Shringar Shatak’ and ‘Vairagaya Shatak’. It is believed that Bhartrihari did penance in one of the caves after renouncing worldly life. The cave famous by the name of Bhartrihari is located inside the temple on the southern side.

Daksha Mahadev Temple

Daksha Mahadev Temple is an ancient Shiva shrine located at Kankhal in Haridwar District of Uttaranchal. Kankhal is about 4 km from Haridwar.
This beautiful temple is an attribute to a myth related to Daksha Yagya. The central image at the temple is a shivling.

According to the myth, Shiva's father-in-law Daksha Prajapati performed a yagya. Daksha did not invite Lord Shiva and Sati felt insulted. Therefore Sati self-immolated in the yagya kund. Consequently, Daksha was killed by the followers of Lord Shiva and later he was brought to life by the Lord.

There is a pit, which is said to be the location of King Daksha's sacrificial fire, on the grounds of the temple. The temple is considered as one of the five holy places in Haridwar. A large number of people from far and near gather here on the occasion of Shivratri.

Bilvakeswar Mahadev Temple

Located in the lap of Bilva Mountain in Haridwar, Bilvakeswar Mahadev Temple houses two shivlings. The shivling consecrated by Adi Guru Shankaracharya, is enshrined inside the temple and the one situated outside the temple is known as Bilvakeswar Mahadev. It is believed that Parvati did tough penance here to fulfill her wish of marrying Lord Shiva and she also took a holy glimpse of Lord Shiva here. That is why this temple is named as Bilvakeswar Mahadev. A cupola (domed roof) is situated at the top of this temple. Shivratri is the main festival celebrated in this temple. The temple is situated near the Gauri Kund (pond), which is considered as the place where Parvati did penance.

Sapt Samudreswar Mahadev Temple

Constructed in the year 1890, Sapt Samudreswar Mahadev Temple enshrines the shivling of Lord Shiva. The temple was built by Raj Bahadur Soorajmal. It is believed that Lord Shiva appeared in a dream and told him about his presence at this place. Finding the shivling, he constructed a temple around it.
The temple is in Haridwar, which is located at a distance of 214 km from Delhi. It is well linked by road and rail with key destinations in north India.

Dandeshwar Temple

Dandeshwar Temple, a Nagara Style of temple, is one of the prime sites in Jageshwar, a pilgrim town located 65 km from Binsar. Lord Shiva is the main deity in this temple. An 18th century image of dancing Shiva and a massive iron bell at the gateway are the main attractions of this temple. The bell is believed to be the link between local deity, Golu and Lord Shiva. Chithai Temple - a shrine dedicated to Golu - is nearby.

Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple

Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was constructed in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya. Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesh and Lord Kartikeya are the main deities of the temple. Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita are also worshipped here.
