About Seven Nag (Snake) Temples:
Uttarakhand is called “Dev Bhoomi” means the land of Gods. Kumaon people have a strong tradition to worship of folk gods. Each people have a distinct god history attached to his name and each one is recalled in many different ways such as jagar (a form of folk ritual poem), nainang in peak temples.
The Nag Devatas (snake gods) are worshipped as Kul Devatas (family gods) among the many people of Kumaon. There are seven famous Nag temples in kumaon reason those are Bedinag, Kalinag, Peelinag, Moolnag, Ferinag, Dhoolinag, Basukinag. Those all temples are situated at the top of the hills.
BeriNag Temple:
Berinag Devta temple is situated in Berinag a beautiful hill station in Pithoragarh District. This hill station is named the cause of Bedinag Devta Temple. This temple is situated at the top of the hill 1.5Km trek from this town. In every year on Nag Panchami there is being a fair. Thousands of people come to pray on that place. All famous peaks of Himalayas such as Nandadevi, Panchachooli, and Trishool are easily viewable from that place. Sooner Berinag was very famous for tea garden. The famous Maa Kali Shakti Peeth “Hat Kalika Temple” and cave temple Patal Bhuvneshwar is also nearby to Berinag.
KaliNag Temple:
The way to reach Kalinag Devta Temple is from Chokodi the very charming hill station and tea state. This temple is situated on the top of the hill, near Kotmunia. Kalinag Devta is very famous to escape to any kind of natural threats.
PeeleNag Temple:
Peele Nag Devta temple has almost the same landmark and way as Kalinag Temple. As the people belief Peele Nag Devta helps to the rain properly and escapes their harvest to ruin. So every year after cut the crop they do pooja on the temple, make prasad for the new grain and distribute it among the persons. Maa Kotagadi Devi temple is also very near from this location.
MoolNag Temple:
MoolNag Devta is also called Mool Narayan Devta. It is very famous temple which is also known as Dhwaj Shikher Temple. This temple is situated on that point which extends a beautiful view of the valley and the hills around. Dhwaj Shikher to Bhanar is also a very famous and beautiful trek rout. On the returning way a hill station “Kotmuniya” comes which is famous for Sarla Behen Ashram and there is only one park in Uttaranchal where we found a number of Kasturi Mrag (Dear).
FeriNag Temple:
Ferinag Devta temple is situated near the top of the Kameredevi hill station in Begeshwar District.
This famous temple is surrounded by the beautiful forest of Buroons and Kafel. In every winter season there is being heavy snow fall. Ferinag Devta is very famous among the people for their true justice. This temple is situated 4Km trekking distance form the road head. The other nearest landmark of this temple is “Kanda” which is very famous for the soft stone mines. Maa Bhadrakali Temple and its wonderful cave is also nearby from this temple.
DhooliNag Temple: Dhoolinag Devta temple is situated near Bijaypur in Begeshwar Distritc. Bijaypur is also famous for its tea garden. All famous peaks of Himalaya’s also viewable from there. Every Nag Panchami there is also being a big fair. It is very peaceful place. People come here to do yoga and meditation.
BasukiNag Temple:
This temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Basuki. This Temple is situated in a very peaceful area that’s why many rishi muni come here to do Dhyan, Yoga and meditation. Earlier “Nantin Baba” came here every year and spent a lot of time on that place. This temple is very poplar in this reason
