Do not forget to buy some 'baal mithai' from the market at Ranikhet, if you are out for shopping. Baal Mithai is made of condensed and concentrated milk,

covered with little sugar bead. This sweet is the specialty of Ranikhet. You can also try 'singaudi' which is rich in sugar and ghee.

Another excellent shopping option is shawls at KRC Shawl and Tweed Factory and Outlet. It is located in an old church with high ceilings and stained glass windows. Don't forget to visit the factory to watch the weavers at work as they churn out shawls in many hues and patterns.

Ranikhet excursions consist of some of the finest places near the city. Excursions around Ranikhet, Uttarakhand are a must see for those visiting the city. Some of the famous places to visit around Ranikhet are the following:

Kausani

Kausani is a beautiful place that is known for its scenic beauty and the wonderful vistas that it provides to a traveler. It is also known as the Switzerland of India. It is located at a stone's throw away from Ranikhet and is known for the panoramic view that it has to provide to the visitors.


Sitlakhet

Sitlakhet is yet another place located close to Ranikhet which provides a beautiful view of the Himalayan ranges that surrounds it. Located about 35 kms. from Ranikhet, it is an ideal retreat for anyone looking to visit any nearby place near Ranikhet. Sitlakhet is surrounded by lush green orchards, herbal and medicinal plants.

Dwarahat

Binsar Mahadev

The Binsar Mahadev temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located about 15 kms. from Ranikhet town and has a beautiful stream flowing very close to it. Apart from the Shiva temple, Binsar Mahadev also has a lovely cedar forest surrounding it.


Naukuchia Tal

Naukuchia Tal is a beautiful lake that is located in the Nainital town. For anyone who is interested in bird watching, Naukuchia Tal is an absolute heaven. During the winter season, many migratory birds can be spotted in the lake.

RANIKHET - From this Himalayan town about 380 kilometers from Delhi, my first view of mystical Nandi Devi was one of those velvet-cloaked, sledge-hammer moments in life that softly stuns the senses and leaves one wordless.

Golden early morning sunlight lit the snow-capped 7,800-meter peak, India's highest, as Nanda Devi glowed with strength, stillness, purity, silence - an awe-inspiring sight in the crisp mountain air. Tourist guides in Seventh Heaven and other next-life holiday paradises may not have many prettier sights to sell.

the Nanda Devi area is an United Nations-declared World Heritage Park that ranks among major attractions in Uttarakhand, a state in north India also called "Dev Bhumi" or "Land of Gods".

The gods can't be faulted for their taste in real estate, as the Nanda Devi region, including the Valley of Flowers and the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, form one of the more spectacular scenic spots in South Asia.

But beautiful worldly paradises generally have a blighted side and Nanda Devi too, like its more famous cousin Mount Everest, is fighting off an onslaught of pollution, unruly development and other damage from a careless human presence.

Adding to its woes, the Nanda Devi region has been suffering strange weather patterns in recent weeks, particularly worrying busy adventure tourism operators like Arvind Bharadwaj.

"It's snowing hard in the month of May when the snows should be melting, and raining when the weather should be dry for trekkers and climbers," Bharadwaj told Asia Times Online after returning to Rishikesh on June 11 from a trekking expedition to the Nanda Devi east base camp.

रानीखेत में भी अनुकूल मौसम में साल में एक दो बार बर्फ पड़ जाती है। ये सभी स्थल पर्यटकों के लिए पसंदीदा हैं। उत्तराखंड में बर्फबारी का आनंद लेने के लिए सैकड़ों स्थल उपलब्ध हैं।

बर्फ पड़ने के बाद वातावरण साफ हो जाता है इसलिए हिमालय के दृश्य और भी खूबसूरत हो जाते हैं पर बदलते मौसम चक्र परिवर्तन के चलते यह कहना अब मुश्किल है कि साल में बर्फ कब और कितनी बार पड़ेगी।
