They people stopped  bribing the patwarris and the peshkars.  This annoyed them and they sent incorrect information of the incidents to the officers.   SDM HabbiburRehmaan with  50-60  policemen reach Bhikia sain  and established his camp at Narsingh Giri.   He punished the innocent people of Dungla Gaon .  the news  of the atrocities reached Kumar, Tuknauli and Chamkana  and  people from these villages gathered and they forced the SDM to pay Rs. 5 as compensation for the  the crops ruined by the policemen.    SDM was forced to go back.

Sir thanks for good info on Kumaon ki baardoli.

Anubhav ji aur Savitaji,
I have  gathered some information which was published in 'Dhad '   It was written by Shri Devender Upadhyay under the head- kumaon ki Baardoli

In the early  1920s  the then Govt officers  decided to force  the people of Gujru Patti  and  all the four parts of  the Salt to work as Kuli Begar .   shri Hargobind Pant  collectted the people.  Centre of this  movement was Khmaar.  Shri Purushottam Updhyay was the Headmast , of the Primary school in Khumar.  He played  a prominent role in spreading awareness. He resigned from service with another  teacher Shri Laxman Singh ahikaari in 1927 and  shri Pan Singh Patwal,Contractor also joined the move.   These activits went to Tadihet to welcome  Mahatma Gandhi on 19 May, 1927.  After meeting  gandhiji, they satrted  Nasha Bandi andolan, Swedishi.   In April, 1930 They also made Salt at Chamkana, Ubhera and Hatuli.

contd.

Then People gathered at Maulekhal and considered the situation.  Pansingh Patwal  offered himself  for girftaari to save the people from the  police.   He was arrested.   People started Jungle Satyagraha,  Stopped paying taxes and  stopped the sale of bulls .   On Nov. 1930 58 people were arrested at Mohan Dak Bunglow.

To frighten the people,  on 10 Dec. 1930  SDM Habibur Rehaman entered Salt from Mohan and set his camp at Marchula.   He forfeited all the belongings of  Pansingh Patwal at  Kota Chami.  Policemen also  took away 30 goats  of the villagers.  Out of these they consumed 11 goats.   On 16 th Dec SDM reached Devayal to address the malgujars (  revenue collectors) of 14 villages.  They said that they are ready to pay the revenue but not the police tax.   SDM did not accede to their request and his men  looted 144 villages of Salt to  get the police tax.   Purushottamji  was released in 1931, but when he reached Khmaad he was again arrested and he  died in Bareli of some infection in throat.   The public of Salt resolved   to complete the task left by him, which resulted  in a movement and  in March 1939  Raghubar Dat Upadhyay, Haridar Baidhya, Laxman singh , Baba Haridwar Giri  and Laxman Singh adhikari of   Kwerala were arrested.   In Sept. 1942 SDM Jonson  in Khumaad  ordered his men to fire at the protestors but  they did not obey him and fired only off the target.  At this, he himself  started firing at the crowd.      Two brothers Ganga Ram and Khima Nand were killed at the spot.  Chura Mani and Bahadur singh Mehra died  after four days.
Gandhiji  ne is ghatna ko Kumaaon ki Baradoli kaha tha.   In Khummad  Saheed Diwas is celebrated on 5th September  every year.
