This temple is situated at the confluence of the Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga rivers, at a motorable distance of 59 kms. from Tehri. It is believed that Duyodhan offered tarpana here.

According to legends, it is at this temple that the Pandavas encountered Rishi Balkhily at Bhrigu Parvat when they were on the lookout for Shiva after the Kurukshetra battle. The Rishi directed them to the site of the confluence to meet an old manmeditating there. But when the Pandava got there, the old man vanished and instead, a shivling appeared there. Rishi Balkhily instructed the Pandavas to embrace the Shivling in order to free themselves from their sins. Their impressions are stamped on this Shivling – the biggest Shivling in northen India.

The Tungnath temple is situated at the height of 3680 mtrs. atop the Chandranath parvat, 30 Kms. from Ukhimath - Gopeshwar Road. To reach it requires a strenuous trek through dense forest.
A story goes that the Rishi Vyas told the Pandavas that they were guilty of killing of their own relatives and their sins would be expiated only if Shiva pardoned them. So the Pandavas began to look for Shiva. Lord Shiva kept avoiding them as he knew that Pandavas were guilty. So the Lord took refuge underground and later, his body parts resurfaced at five different places. These five places, where five magnificent temples of Lord Shiva stand, are known as the “Panch Kedar”. Each one is identified with a part of his body. Tugnath is where his hands were supposedly seen. Kedarnath, his hump; Rudranath, his head; Kalpeshwar, his hair; and Madmaheshwar, his navel.

In this temple of Shiva where the dome spans sixteen doors, a 2.5 feet tall idol of Adi Guru Shankaracharya is located along side the lingam. The Nandadevi temple is also situated at Tungnath not far from the awe-inspiring Akash ganga water fall, so called, because the water looks as though is is descending from heaven.

Situated at a distance of 56 kms. from Rudrapur on Rudrapur-Tanakpur motor route, Nanakmatta is a great pilgrimage centre of the Sikh religion. Guru Nanak visited this place. Thousands of pilgrims come here throughout the year. A Tourist Rest House and Gurudwara are available for night stay.
A big dam has been constructed on river Saryu at Nanak Matta. This is in itself a beautiful picnic spot where one can enjoy boating and fishing. The dam is situated at a distance of 56 km. from Udham Singh Nagar (Rudrapur).
The serene lake waters reflecting the clear sky above is a breathtaking sight. Facilities for boating provide added attraction.

Kashipur was known as Govishan during the time of Harsha (606–647 AD), when Xuanzang (631–641 AD) visited this region. The ruins of the large settlement of those days are still to be seen near the city. Kashipur is named after Kashinath Adhikari, the founder of the township and one of the officers of the Chand rulers of Kumaon in the middle age.

Khirsu
The snow - laden mountains of Khirsu tempt the tourist in winters, while the panoramic view of Central Himalayas attracts tourists in summers, when one can get a clear view of 300 named and unnamed peaks. Located 19 kms. away from Pauri at an altitude of 1700 mts. Khirsu is a peaceful spot of Himalayas and free from pollution. The tranquility of the adjoining thick Oak and Deodar forests and apple orchards, is only broken by chirping birds. The ancient temple of Ghandiyal Devta in the vicinity is well worth a visit.
