Tanakpur

Tanakpur is a little known town located on the banks of Sarada River, in the Kumaon Himalayas of Uttaranchal. It was established around 1880 by the British on the site of the earlier town of Brahmadeo. Except for the river, the town holds no particular tourist interest; the place is better known as the railhead to Pithoragarh.
From the town, excursions to Shukhidhung, Purnagiri, Shyamlatal, Champawat and Pithoragarh will be an enchanting experience.

Tanakpur Railway Station is a terminus of the line coming from Pilibhit. Buses are less frequent in this route; hence hiring a private vehicle would be a better bet.

Gwalakot

Gwalakot is located 26 km from Almora. Kosi River flows through it. This place offers an enchanting view of the snowy peaks of Himalayas. Nearby attractions include Ranikhet, Dwarahat and Kausani. Pant Nagar Airport is the nearest airbase. The nearest railway stations are at Kathgodam and Ram Nagar.

Vijaypur

Vijaypur is a sleepy hamlet in Bageshwar District of Uttaranchal. This beautiful village is situated an altitude of 2,050 m. Vijaypur offers magnificent views of Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Panchchuli and Annapurna peaks. Binta, Someshwar Valley, Kausani, Baijnath and Bageshwar are the nearby tourist attractions. The village is about 17 km from Chaukori and 30 km from Bageshwar. Kathgodam Railway Station and Pant Nagar Airport are the nearest railway station and airport respectively.

Dhamigaon

Dhamigaon is a picturesque hamlet in Pithoragarh District, Uttaranchal. Characterised by mountains and valleys, Dhamigaon is an ideal getaway for the city-weary souls. The Goriganga River flowing very close to this village adds to the natural charm.
Dharchula, an important camp along the Kailash-Mansarovar, Chhota Kailash and Narayan Ashram route, is easily accessible from here. Baram, Mahargari, Bansbagar, Chhiplakot, Mawani and Jumma are nearby locations.

Tawaghat

Tawaghat is situated 19 km from Dharchula in Pithoragarh District. It is located at the confluence of rivers Kali and Dhauli. The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra begins from here. Narayan Ashram (14 km), Pangu (9 km), Kali Temple, Gunji, Budhi, Gala, Malpa and Sirkha are the nearby tourist destinations. Tawaghat commands a fascinating view of snow-clad mountains all around. It is surrounded by dense forests. Accommodation and trekking equipments are available at Tawaghat.
The nearest airport is Pant Nagar Airport and the nearest railhead is at Tanakpur. It is well connected by road with Dharchula.

Goriganga
A scenic village, Chhiplakot is in Pithoragarh District of Uttaranchal. Chhiplakot lies in the heartland of the Kali and Gori rivers, south of the Panchchuli mountains.This region is enchanting with a wide stretch of bugyals or alpine meadows. Dharchula, an important camp along the Kailash-Mansarovar, Chhota Kailash and Narayan Ashram route, is easily accessible from here.
Some of the nearby places are Baram, Mahargari,


Bansbagar, Dhamigaon, Mawani and Jumma. The

Goriganga River flows very close to this village. Chhiplakot offers the tourists the best fare in terms of rest, relaxation and enjoyment.

Chhipla Jaat

Chhipla Jaat is held once in three years on Bhado Purnmasi in Uttaranchal. It is an occasion wherein the people of the villages of Dharchula and Gorikhal regions reach Kedardwe and Najurikote to undertake a 5 day barefoot journey through thick forests and rocky lands to Chhipla Kedar near Chhiplakot.
The principal journey starts from Khela village near Twaghat and is accompanied by folk drums and metallic pipe instruments. A flag bearing pieces of red cloth collected from all the families of the villages is also carried on this journey.

The Jaat first leaves for Barmano, which is about 6 km from Khela. On the second day, the journey passes through thick oak forest crossing Bunga, Garapani, Mangthil gwar, Ganbhujdhura and reaching Brahmkund. At this point a glimpse of Chaudans region and the peaks of West Nepal can be seen. The Udiyar (cave) of Brahmkund is used for stay. It accommodates 100 people. On the third day, the route is on the back of Najurikote, which is full of buggi grass and brahmkamals. Sacred dips in the Kedardwe pond are taken and worship is done. The yatris have to go back to Brahmkund for the night stay. The total trekking distance is about 35 km for this one day. The fourth day begins after seeing Jyulital and Patojkund to reach Bhaimankund. The yatris can stay at this cave for the night. The fourth day yatra covers 16 km. The fifth day journey ends at Baram in Gori valley after worshipping at the Kanar devi temple.

Darkot

Darkot is a charming village situated 15 km from Munsiyari in Pithoragarh District. It is located at an elevation of about 1,700 m. The village lies on the Milam Glacier trek route. Gori River flows through it. Darkot nestles among forests of rhododendron, juniper and birch. It offers fascinating views of the Nanda Devi Peak and the deep valleys around. Nearby places to visit are Daranti, Maheshwari Kund, Balati Farm, Namik Glacier, Ralam Glacier and Sailapani. It is an ideal base for trekking and mountaineering.
Bhutiyas, people of an Indo-Tibetan tribe, live in this region. The village houses show the culturally rich lifestyle of their inhabitants. The figures of Jyoti Patta (life giving female spirit) and Ganesh are painted on the walls. Special designs are created in rice paste on the floor. The village is also rich in handicrafts.

The nearest airport is Pant Nagar Airport and the nearest railway station is at Kathgodam. Darkot is connected by road to Munsiyari.

Rilkot

Rilkot is a picturesque village situated 11 km from Munsiyari in Pithoragarh District. It lies at an elevation of about 3,200 m. The village has ruins reminiscent of the history of the ancient Indo-Tibetan trade. River Gori flows close by. Rilkot nestles among the thick forests of rhododendron and juniper. The place offers fascinating views of the Nanda Devi Peak, Martoli Peak and Trisuli I Peak. Nearby interesting destinations include Panchachuli Glacier, Namik Glacier, Ralam Glacier, Munsiyari, Lilam, Rargari, Martoli (3,385 m) and Sarpudyar. It is an ideal base for trekking and mountaineering. Base camps are available here.

Bog Udiyar

Bog Udiyar is a beautiful village in Pithoragarh District of Uttaranchal. It is situated midway between Munsiyari and Laspa. Paton, Lilam, Rargari Udiyar and Poting are places nearby.
The River Gori flows very close to this village. Nanda Devi Peak, the highest peak among the Garhwal Himalayas, is easily accessible from here.

Tanakpur Railway Station and Pant Nagar Airport are the nearest access points.
