कृषिकृत्यं तु तन्न्यूनं दुखदं नृणाम् II
If there is double profit after deducting land tax and other expenses the farming is of the highest class. If there is a profit lesser than double, the farming is of inferior class or painful farming.
(Shukraneeti, Chapter 5, Kosha Nirupan, 111)
Opposition Leaders should not laugh at the idea of doubling farming income –
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on 28th February about doubling the farmer’s income by 2022. From that day, all the opposition parties started laughing taunting the idea of doubling farming income. It is a surprise that in the 21st century, political parties laugh on a serious subject and an aim not only for BJP but the aim is also for Congress (the states it is ruling 0, for TMC in Bengal, YSR Congress for Andhra Pradesh, and so on. The idea of double profit in agriculture is of the Gupta period (around 200 to 8000 BCE, when Shukraniti was conceived). It is clearly obvious that during Gupta Period, India was the most prosperous country because farming was profitable and was more export-oriented than only limited to satisfy the country's need.
It is the duty of every Indian to support and act the idea of ‘Double Profit from farming’.
Steps for Doubling Farmer’s Income –
The Interministerial Committee of the Modi Government recommended the following steps for doubling the farmer’s income –
A-Improving the crop productivity
B-Improving the livestock productivity
C- Resources for increasing productivity
D-Increasing Cropping Intensity
E- Diversion towards High-value Crops
F- Shift from Farm to Non Farming occupation
In India, farming is a state subject and many local states governing political parties laugh at the idea. This is unfortunate.
Every Indian should work for doubling Farmer’s income (Double Profit).
