Intellectuals, writers have been writing about the problem of migration from rural Garhwal since the post India independence. Tens of humorous satirical poems are written in Garhwali about problems of migration from rural Garhwal. Bhishma Kukreti drew many cartoons (satirical humor) on the problems of migration from rural Garhwal. Migration from Garhwal is mainly due to no employment sources, ill economy, least quality education facilities, lesser medical facilities, lesser facilities for modern living, no development, no political will for rural development, less agricultural productivity in rural Garhwal.
In humorous satire ‘Bhajan’ (Garh Aina, 2/6/1990), Kukreti discussed about the culture of migration from Garhwal to plains. Humorously Kukreti states in this satire that in past people from various regions came to Garhwal and settled in Garhwal including the Panwar dynasty.  In humorous satire ‘Bhajan’, Kukreti talks different styles of migration from rural Garhwal. Humorously and satirically Kukreti lambasts on  migration of un skilled work force from rural Garhwal.

Kukreti also uses repetition of words (anupras alnkar) in this humorous satire

There is tendency among migrated Uttarakhandi social organizations that each organization is divided among groups and sub groups those fight with each other for post or for their says in the organization. The aim of social organization in foreign countries or out of Uttarakhand is to unite migrated Uttarakhandis into one. However, instead of unity among migrated Uttarakhandis, the groupism ends noble aim of unity.
Parashar Gaud criticizes such groupism in the migrated Uttarakhandi social organizations of America and Canada in his satire ‘Jakhya Takhi’ (18/9/2009).

Meri Ghanghtol: Satire Discussing Complex Interaction between Economic Development and Environment sustainability

From the day human being started agriculture, human being also started destroying environment. However, the past civilization took care for sustainable environment. With fast economic development human beings are forgetting environment preservation. There are extreme environment supporters and extreme economic development advocates those don’t see eye to eye.  The satire Meri Ghanghtol ‘(Garh Aina, 31/5/1990) by Bhishma Kukreti discusses the two extremes and advocates for balance between the two. As economic development and environment preservation both are must for human society.

Kukreti,  at one stage,  takes the readers to his family history when his forefathers might have cut the tress for agricultural land in thirteen century in Garhwal.  The satire compels readers for thinking balance between economic developmental works and environment sustainability.

Prakash Mani Dhashmana is a satirical columnist of Rant Raibar, a Garhwali language weekly. In ‘Iskulya 10, Master Dwi ‘(Rant Raibar, 11/7/2011) satirical column, Prakash shows concern over the less numbers of students in primary schools of rural Garhwal.  Dhashmana portrays the rotten education system in rural Garhwal. Once, there was problem of lesser numbers of teachers than required numbers. However, now in rural Garhwal, there are schools where students are below ten and teachers are as found in other normal schools. The low numbers of students are dangerous that teachers don’t get enthusiasm in teaching and students don’t get passion in studies. The write up is successful in provoking readers for worsening situation in education system in rural Garhwal
Prakash Mani uses lesser satirical phrases or ornamental phrases in this piece and thus the article is nearer to reporting.

Congress leader Satpal Mahraj  ji lost parliamentary election in 1989 of Garhwal and after losing election, Satpal Mahraj ji aggressively started  stating statements that he will not tolerate Janta Dal government ignoring economic  development of Uttarakhand  . Bhishma Kukreti lambasts Satpal Maharaj ji in a satirical write up ‘Satpal  Shri ! bardast Karan geejo’ (Garh Aina, 6/6/1990) for his Crocodile tears.  Crocodile tears mean superficial sympathy. Satpal Maharaj’s statement was nothing but a crocodile tears by Satpal ji was displaying false, bogus, phony, artificial, insincere, dishonest, two-faced, hypocritical or disingenuous sympathy for the economic development of Uttarakhand. Kukreti categorically reminded Satpal Maharaj ji that there were congress governments in centre and Uttar Pradesh for many years and there have been congress chief ministers from Uttarakhand as Govind Ballabh Pant, Chandra Bhanu Gupta, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna and Narayan Datt Tiwari and the development in Uttarakhand was never the aim of these congress chief ministers. Congres politician Brahm Datt was also minister in centre and Uttar Pradesh.
Satirically, Kukreti raised the question that whenever a politician loses election or sits in opposition she/he comes to know that there is no development in her/his constituency. When Satpal ji did not win election he started criticizing Janta Dal but forgets that it was Congress party that was responsible for non economic development in Uttarakhand. The satire condemns sharply the crocodile tears of politicians as Satpal Ji.

Bhishma Kukreti was a regular contributor of Garh Aina a daily newspaper of Garhwali language. A satirical column ‘Inai-Unai ki’ by Kukreti was a regular feature of Garh Aina. In ‘Buddi ar Dwi Adhyapak’ (Garh Aina, 27/5/ 1990) is a satire satirizing lampooning, mocking or ridiculing the teachers, teaching and education system.
An old woman is interested to know about education system and she asks a teacher who becomes angry on her calling him as Guru. He is also in hurry as he has to leave school for his own agriculture works in his village. He does not answer. She asks another teacher that is indifferent to education system. That teacher is frustrated because this teacher he wanted to become scientist or Indian administrative officer but has to take teaching profession as he did not get employment for five years after completing post graduation .
Now, she meets another group of two ‘Adhyapak’ (teacher).  The old woman was shocked by knowing that both teachers are less interested in teaching or education system but both teachers are interested to save guards their caste interests (first teacher is Brahmin and another teacher is Rajput).
Kukreti creates worsening situation of teaching profession and education system in the satirical write up. The satire ‘Buddi Dwi Adhyapak’ satirizing teacher, teaching and education system is in dialogue form. Kukreti uses symbolic character of old lady as old education system in the satire Buddi ar Dwi Adhyapak’ satirizing teacher, teaching and education system. The old lady or old education system is interested to reform her but no teacher is interested in reforming education system.

The original socialist party of India has its roots in Congress socialist group represented by Jay Prakash Narayan, Achary Kriplani. After Independence, there were many parties in the name of Socialism.
However, the present scenario is different. In fact, Political leaders as Karpuri Thakur, Mulyam Singh Yadav were/are pseudo socialists.
Puran pant lambasts on the so called attitude of political pseudo socialist leaders in satirical write up ‘Samajvad (1996). Pant states that the pseudo socialists of India are the agent of traders and rich Indians.
The so called pseudo socialists are involved in scams, scandals and all are bent to get power at any cost. The political weapons of these pseudo socialists are   corruption, commissions, caste based politics, religion based politics, government benefits etc.
Pant is always aggressive on attacking wrongs and here too, Pant uses sharp phrase for lambasting pseudo socialists of India. There is poetic flow in his satire.

Bhishma Kukreti lambasts on dynastic in Indian democracy in satire ‘Navadi Thokdar’ (Garh Aina, 21/3/2012). Kukreti ridicules that there is democracy in India but in reality there is dynastic politics inside democracy.  Satirically Kukreti counts the examples of dynastic politicians as sons or relatives of Vasant dada Patil (Sangli Maharashtra) ,V.P Nayak, Shankar rav Chauhan, NTR Rama Rav, Karunanidhi, Nehru, Hemvati  Nandan Bahuguna, Sindhiyas  and tens of many more are now taking the place of their fathers or relatives.  In the name of democracy the Indian politicians are creating new type of dynastic rule in India.
Kukreti uses a new style that a worried Indian asks the future of India to a Baki/Puchher (Future Teller). The future teller forecasts that dynastic politics will govern the Indian democracy.  Kukreti forecasts that  this dynastic politics in democracy will bring weak administration, corruption and will weaken democracy.

The satire is energetic and provocative too.

Parashar Gaud is a Non Resident Indian Garhwali and writes satire regularly in Garhwali language (one of the oldest Indian regional languages).
‘Dhanush Van’ (23 October 2009) by Gaur is a satire on the two issues about Shiv Sena. Parashar makes mockery of Shiv Sena for its defeat in election in satire ‘Dhanush Van’. Gaud also makes derision of Shiv Sena’s defeat due to family feud  Parashar compares metaphorically Bal Saheb Thakrey as defeated Bhishma injured by his family man Arjun (here Thakery’s nephew Raj Thakrey) . Parashar Gaud speaks his concern in simple satire.
