Dr. Surendra Semalti is a poet and prose maker in Garhwali.  The story ‘Bhut’ by Semalti is about negative points of blind faith. Jeetram a teacher wanted to teach dance to his students for annual program. At home, in night he starts practice for various types of dances that he can teach the students best dances attractive to public. He never did dancing before anybody in his life. From outside, when his wife saw him changing stances (for dance) she came to conclusion that evil soul has caught Jeetram. Instead of asking him she immediately brings Mantrik. Mantrik reads various folk chants (Rakhwali) and beats Jeetram by Kandali. Mantrik also slaps Jeetram here and there. Jeetram finds way to tell the truth.
The story is very fine story from many points. Semalti depicts the story very smoothly and readers create images about the happening. The pace of story is very fast and readers don’t get time to divert their minds from the story.  Dr. Surendra uses Tiryali (Tihri Garhwal) dialects and dialogues are just to speed up the story. The characters are commonly found in rural Garhwal. The story about negative points of blind faith provides message that without complete knowledge don’t take decision and do not follow blind faith when it is not required.

Garhwali story /fiction world is lucky for having various subjects, styles in stories. In each story of Garhwali story/fiction world is different than other story in plot, theme, character and characterization, setting, atmosphere and style. For example, Garhwali story Bhishma Kukreti ‘Gangajal’ is a fine example of creating images of festival and fair.  The story takes the readers in rural Garhwal of sixties. In story, he creates first suspense and then narrates various aspects of Fulun Maina (month of flowers, Chait), the month of song, Bikhot festival celebration and Bikhot fair at Byaschatti the meeting place of Ganga and Nayar rivers. There is memoir of a kind hearted and sacrificing Shilpkar woman in the story. The characterization of Shilpkar woman and her sacrifice make the story vibrant and compelling. The story is told in first person and every event is seen and felt by the author.
The metaphors, simile descriptive language of story ‘Gangajal ‘create fine image of Bikhot

The story is successful in creating desired images of festival and fair and the Shilpkar woman and her sacrifice. Kukreti uses the effective tactics for creating auditory imagery, kinesthetic imagery, offertory imagery, gustatory imagery and tactile imagery in the said story.

According to Bhishma Kukreti, in Garhwali literature, from eighty to two thousand AD was the Movement Era. Hilans was a movement for promoting Kumauni and Garhwali literature. Dhad led by Lokesh Navani was inspirational language movement in rural Garhwal. Uttarakhand movement also inspired Garhwalis for creating Garhwali literature rich by various subjects, styles and experiments.
Puran Pant Pathik is great satirists of Indian literature especially in the poetry field. Great Indian satirist Pant wrote many satirical essays and a couple of stories in Garhwali. ‘Bat Vichar’ by ‘Pant is not s satirical story as great Indian satirist Puran Pant Pathik is famous for satirical literature.
‘Bat Vichar’ is an inspirational Garhwali story about inspiring people for unity for Uttarakhand movement.    Ram Datt is an old man who has seen British rule and experienced the sweet less odor of fruits of independence of in Uttar Pradesh regime.   Ramdatt asks villagers to unite and fight for another people’s independence – separate Uttarakhand state. The story is simple and enjoyable.  Great Indian literature creative Pant is successful in creating images of Garhwal at the time of British rule, fifteenth August and worsening period under Uttar Pradesh.

Usually, Kali Prasad Ghildiyal writes stories about woman’s psychological oriented subject. However, ‘Rag Thag ‘is an inspiring, inspirational, encouraging, motivational, decent, ethical, honorable, moral story.  Pundit Lakshmi Datt (pundit, folk ritual healer, folk doctor) is busy in cheating or suppressing people through financial methodologies of Saukar (money lender). Bajrang Singh helps Lakshmi Datt. One day, both come to know that deceptive methods are more dangerous for them than to others.
Kali Prasad took all care that story does not become a preaching story and for he created incidents those keep engage attention of readers intact.  The incidents are usually found in village. Dialogues support the pace of story.

A Garhwali story    ‘Huntyari ka Naunyal’ by Rashmi Barthwal is about the characteristics of students studying in rural Garhwal.  Rashmi believes that the future of students upon their childhood conditioning rather than conditioning at later stage of life.
Rashmi talks about the condition of rural Garhwal when there was less awareness about education in Garhwal and when new school opens the students are not conditioned to study in group in school. Rashmi describes students and their way of life style. A boy is dirty and never takes bath. A student steals money from his father pocket due to his father’s ignorance and bad habit of alcohol consumption. Rashmi describes various student characters and shows surprise.
The story is simple and is in reporting form rather than modern tales narration method. Language of story is purely of Ganga Salan area and Rashmi writes words as they are said in Ganga Salan region.  The story is satire on parents and society not taking proper care about their children

Rashmi Barthwal published very few Garhwali stories. However, whatever she wrote she wrote about life sketches of common women of rural Garhwal.  Rashmi has been successful in creating images of rural Garhwali women and their daily life. The story telling style of Rashmi is simplistic without much twist and binds.  She is master of creating imagery in storytelling.
The story ‘Vin ki Katha‘is about daily life of daughter in law Rukma. The life sketch of Rukma starts from morning to night till she wants to sleep.  The readers get engaged in knowing daily work of a rural Garhwal woman of sixties.  Rashmi uses Ganga Salani dialects in story narration and simple phrases make the perfect images of rural Garhwal.

The modern Garhwali story ‘Kalyajai Fans’ by Chinmay Sayar deals with two main themes.- emotional problems of parents due to inter caste marriage by Garhwalis and the aloofness of aged  parents in rural Garhwal.
Dinwani works in city and marries with non Garhwali girl. His father becomes sad and angry that marriage should be held in own caste. Father of Diwani dies due to emotional shock. Diwani does not visit to village after the death of his father but sends money for his widow mother. His widow mother asks to village person coming from city about her son and grand children but not for her daughter in law. The non Garhwali wife of Diwani is also indifferent to her mother in law and parental village of her husband.
The story subject is definitely contemporary and is the subject of talk of the town. There were opportunities of creating immense tension and twist in the story. However, Chinmay Sayar uses plain style in depicting such much discussed subject among Garhwalis in these days. Chinmay Sayar is successful in raising the question of should Garhwali avoid inter caste marriages?

The famous Garhwali poet Dr. Umesh Chamola wrote a mini story about much discussed subject of migration that migrated Garhwalis are ignoring their villages. Dr. Chamola wrote the story ‘Bhent’ differently about pain of migration. He uses the fruit ‘Hisar’ shrub for reminding migrated Garhwalis to come their villages regularly and don’t forget the native place.
The story is very effective and compelling for thinking.

Durva (Ashish): A Mini Story, Tale or Fiction about Negativism
Critical Review of Modern Garhwali Stories -135
‘Durva (Ashish) ‘a Modern Garhwali Story by Manoj Ghildiyal (Shailvani, 8/9/2011)-1-a critical Review and Analysis

[Notes on Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Garhwali Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Uttarakhandi Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Mid Himalayan Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Himalayan Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; North Indian Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Indian Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Indian subcontinent Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; SAARC Countries Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; South Asian Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Asian Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism; Oriental Story, Tales or Fictions about Negativism]
‘There are various definitions of negativism as:
Negativism is a habitual attitude of skepticism or resistance to the suggestions, order of others.
Negativism is a behavioral character by persistent refusal of suggestions, order by others.
Negativism is a tendency to refuse, to refuse what is expected or to oppose suggestion
Negativism is also related to answer in negative words (though, the teller does not really mean it).
Negativism is a pessimistic attitude towards life, while answering or taking suggestions.
The readers would be knowing passimsitic approaches in our normal talking as “Khanak kharab t ni banyu ch ?(Is food non tasty ?) . Instead of asking about the taste it is said ‘Is food non tasty?” Or when a child asks for food, the answer from mother is ‘Kani Kand lagin tai Ladwad par ‘?
Durva (Ashish) is a mini story (tale, Fiction) by Manoj Ghildiyal about negative mentality of Garhwalis in normal behavior.
In Garhwali story ‘Durva (Ashish)’, a brother in law asks a relative (bhabh, bau) and she answers in negative words (though it is not her intention) by habit.
अर रै बि जैल त कौन से तुमन मेरि डांडि नि जाण नि दीण

The story subject is good but Manoj could not make very sharp from storytelling point of view. The language dialect is from Shrinagar side
