तुमने खूब मजे किए
हमारे पहाड़ की बेचैनी को रिकॉर्ड करके
तुमने खूब मोटी-मोटी किताबें लिखी
हमारे पहाड़ के आंसुओं पर

याद रखना
हमारा पहाड़ अभी मरा नहीं है
वो जिंदा है...

   Story Style of a Garhwali fiction writer Durga Prasad Ghildiyal

   Durga Prasad Ghildiyal published forty stories in three fiction collections –Gari, Mwari and Bwari .
 Story subject: all the subject of stories by Ghildiyal are the life and life style of Garhwalis. A few stories are based on folk style where moral teaching becomes more prominent than the story. Dr Dabral states that Ghildiyal is expert of issues of Garhwal. Ghildiyal wrote fine modern stories taking Garhwali theme.
Characters and Characterization: Durga Prasad takes both male and female characters in his varied topic stories. Males are of varied characters but females are invariably secular; religious; sensitive; courageous; hard worker and tolerant;   and the lover of society and nature. Ghildiyal establishes Garhwali women as idealistic women. Ghildiyal develops his characters very expertly. Characters are of varied nature.
Background and atmosphere: Durga Prasad Ghildiyal paid less attention on geographical environment of Garhwal or cities. Ghildiyal paid more attention on the human behavior or human psychology.
Language and style: Ghildiyal became successful in developing characters and their characterization but could not become successful in language. He describes the thought of characters than explicit them automatically. The emotions are not of high intensity due to descriptive style.
Motive or moral: Each story by Ghildiyal is aimed for a moral.
 Durga Prasad does not believe in creating extra ordinary characters and he focuses more on common characters of Garhwal and Garhwalis.
  Durga Prasad Ghildiyal has special position in modern Garhwali fiction for common characters; developing characters; subject of Garhwal; psychological description and descriptive style of story.

Ghundya Dyur: Struggle among Body, Social Norms and Individuality

             Rama Prasad Ghildiyal ‘Pahadi’ was famous left wing modern Hindi fiction writer. In his last days of his life he worked for promoting and preserving Garhwali oral and written literature. ‘Pahadi’ was famous for his writing letters to Garhwali creative. This author is fortunate to have communication with ‘Pahadi’.
   Rama Prasad Ghildiyal ‘Pahadi’ wrote two modern Garhwali stories- ‘Ghundya Dyur’ and Meri Moonga Kakh Holi
    ‘Pahadi’ published his story ‘Ghundya Dyur’ in Hilans (January 1980).
  ‘Ghundya Dyur’ deals with the old custom of Garhwal when younger brother law (Devar/Dyur) of young age used to marry his aged widow sister in law (Bhauj/bau). There were social reasons for accepting such custom. Main reason was various needs for widow specially body need and social security. 
   Hari Singh had to marry his aged widow sister in law due to economic compulsion.  People used to tease Hari Singh as ‘husband of old woman.” Hari Singh starts alcohol consumption.
    Hari Singh started dating with his Sali( sister of Bhauj) due to psychological pressure of young body . However, when Hari Singh meets his old school mate the life changes.
  The story deals with many dimensions of needs of widow woman, her need for social security and the psychological need of a young boy married to aged woman.
 Pahadi synthesized social mood, problems and psychology effective in modern Garhwali fiction ‘Ghundya Dyur’ effectively

        Sudama Prasad Dabral ‘Premi’ is one of the signatures of Garhwali Literature. Garhwali literature appreciates his contribution in Fiction and poetry both. He was one of the front runner Garhwali literature activists of Delhi before retiring in Garhwal.
     ‘Mulakat’ story is about a poet meeting a migrated Garhwali woman in a tour. She is unhappy about her mismatched marriage. Sudama Prasad takes the readers in the depressing, unsatisfactory world of urban life. The fiction writer brings various emotions loudly in the story. The story is intense and story structure supports the story theme.

Gaitri bwe: Story about a tragic life of a widow
(Review of Garhwali Story Collection ‘Gaitri k bwe’(1985) by Sudama Prasad Premi

  Gaytri’s father expired while she was child. Her mother left Gaytri   and remarried
   Ignorantly, Gaytri married with her cosine (fufera brother). Knowing this Gaytri’s mother did suicide.
The story deals with the state of mind of a widow for remarrying and leaving her child orphan. Later on the story deals with the regret of that widow.
