Story Style of a Garhwali fiction writer Durga Prasad Ghildiyal
[Let us Celebrate Hundredth Year of Modern Garhwali Fiction!]
                                                 Bhishma Kukreti

[Notes on Story style of fiction writer; Story style of Garhwali fiction writer; Story style of Uttarakhandi fiction writer; Story style of Mid Himalayan fiction writer; Story style of Himalayan fiction writer; Story style of North Indian regional language fiction writer; Story style of Indian regional language fiction writer; Story style of South Asian regional language fiction writer; Story style of Asian regional language fiction writer]

Durga Prasad Ghildiyal published forty stories in three fiction collections –Gari, Mwari and Bwari .
Story subject: all the subject of stories by Ghildiyal are the life and life style of Garhwalis. A few stories are based on folk style where moral teaching becomes more prominent than the story. Dr Dabral states that Ghildiyal is expert of issues of Garhwal. Ghildiyal wrote fine modern stories taking Garhwali theme.
Characters and Characterization: Durga Prasad takes both male and female characters in his varied topic stories. Males are of varied characters but females are invariably secular; religious; sensitive; courageous; hard worker and tolerant;   and the lover of society and nature. Ghildiyal establishes Garhwali women as idealistic women. Ghildiyal develops his characters very expertly. Characters are of varied nature.
Background and atmosphere: Durga Prasad Ghildiyal paid less attention on geographical environment of Garhwal or cities. Ghildiyal paid more attention on the human behavior or human psychology.
Language and style: Ghildiyal became successful in developing characters and their characterization but could not become successful in language. He describes the thought of characters than explicit them automatically. The emotions are not of high intensity due to descriptive style.
Motive or moral: Each story by Ghildiyal is aimed for a moral.
Durga Prasad does not believe in creating extra ordinary characters and he focuses more on common characters of Garhwal and Garhwalis.
Durga Prasad Ghildiyal has special position in modern Garhwali fiction for common characters; developing characters; subject of Garhwal; psychological description and descriptive style of story.

Dhar maki Gaini: Criticizing Marriage by dowry to Girl Side

[Let us Celebrate Hundredth year of Modern Fiction]

                            Bhishma Kukreti
Dr Shiva Nand Nautiyal wrote five Garhwali stories (Bahuguna, 1975).  Dhar maki Gaini is one of those stories by Dr Nautiyal. The story is about Jasuli . her father took three thousand bucks from father in law of Jasuli. Jasuli’s father in law Jethuva took one thousand bucks as loan from a rich man.  Jethuva dies. Jasuli’s husband Govind ran away from home for earning. Jasuli has to suffer a lot
The story is unusual and that is the exclusivity of story. Dr Shiva Nand uses different story style than his contemporary Garhwali fiction writer.  The story has smooth flow. The story has pleasure for readers and motive too.

Meri Moonga Kakh Holi: Webbing Memoir into Story
Let us celebrate Hundredth Year of Modern Garhwali Fiction!

                          Bhishma Kukreti
Ram Prasad Ghildiyal Pahadi wrote second story in Garhwali ‘Meri Moonga Kakh Holi’ published in Hilans. The story is definitely memoir of childhood and young age. However, Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal states that the story lacks a couple of aspects of story.  Dr Dabral states that the story has aspects of essay too. The ‘Meri Moonga Kakh Holi’ is also nearer to memoir.
Since, there is no focus on one aspect the ‘Meri Moonga Kakh Holi’looses its capacity as story.

In this story there are many small events connected to each other and become part of story.  Sudama Prasad Premi shows many aspects related to the life of a migrated Garhwali as love for land and love for his sister.
