This is a poem i wrote in 2009 - for myself, my father and my mountains..
Title: Walnuts

There is a place you said
in the clouds touching the hills
where we grew walnuts
in my childhood.

Not much I remember,
except the pine trees.

I know father,
you want to return after retirement.
The trees would be there
even now,will they recognize us?

I will come along too father
we will grow walnuts
in the old trees.

दानौ की जग्वाल"

ओ कभी न कभी ता जाली या अयीँ बयाल।
ओ कभी न कभी ता बौडालू मेरू रीतू सूनू गढवाल।
ओ कभी ता कन नी आलू तों यूँ खन्दवारूँ कु ख्याल।
ओ कभी न कभी ता जाली या अयीँ बयाल......

ओ रीता गौँ सूना बजार तुम थै ही ता खुज्याँद।
भुल्यूँ बिसरयूँ कभी साल मा एक बार ऐजाँद।
भुल्यूँ बिसरयूँ ही सही पर सदनी कू रखि दे ख्याल।
ओ कभी न कभी ता जाली या अयीँ बयाल......

बसन्त मा भी तुम बिगर डाली छन खडखडी।
दानौ की नजर जग्वलदिन तुमथे तडतडी।
तोँ दानौ की नजर कू भुला रखी दे खयाल।
ओ कभी न कभी ता जाली या अयीँ बयाल......

गौडी भेँसी छोरोँ यख आज भी बियाँद।
लैरू दूध बालण पूजा खाणू क्वी भी नि आँद।
यूँ चौपायोँ कू रमणाट कू ब्यटा रखि दे खयाल।
ओ कभी न कभी ता जाली या अयीँ बयाल......

तिमला, हिँसर, किनगोड अब डाल्यूँ मा ही रै जन्दन।
यूँका बान छैडी कनाकू अब क्वी नी अन्दन।
यूँ डाली बोटी जलडयूँ कू भुला जरा रखि दे ख्याल।
ओ कभी न कभी ता जाली या अयीँ बयाल......
पैणा की अरसी पकोडी भी अब खान्द मा ही सुक जाँद।
चौके की पटठाली भी तेरी खुटयूँ की आस दिखणी राँद।
यूँ पैणा पाटा पटठाल्यूँ कू नाती रखि दे खयाल।
ओ कभी न कभी ता जाली या अयीँ बयाल...............।

                Satire in Garhwali Poems by Sandeep Rawat

                    Sandeep Rawat is critics and poet of modern Garhwali literature.
Recently, Sandeep published his first Garhwali poetry collection ‘Ek Lapang’.
There are many satirical poems as Ultant, Vyvstha, Bhrastachar, Kab Ali bari , Ajkayalai halat,Ucchedi Bathaun, Kuttak, Cunau, Teen Bhai, March Fainal and many more in the collection.
 From the striking the culprit point of view, the Satirical Poems by Sandeep Rawat are sharp, middle and mild. 
 Sandeep is worried about the wrong happenings in the society as he dpicts that leech like worms are now stronger and are sucking the resources.
उलटंत 
 
गंडेळो  का सिंग पैना ह्वेगैनी 
जूंका का हडका कटगड़ा ह्वेगैनी 
 Sandeep shows his concern for the strong coalition between politics and administration for  looting India.
व्यवस्था
नेता अर अफसरों हाथ बिंडी खज्याणा छन
सरकर्या खजानों की
यूँ बांठी लगै खाणा छन
Sandeep is expert in using symbols for creating sharp satire
भ्रष्टाचार
भ्रष्टाचार
जन ल्वे को अंश ह्वेगे
Sandeep Rawat tactically uses animals as human beings for showing worsening India and is good example of personification in satirical poems.
कब आली बारी
कुकुर लग्यां छन पत्यला चटण पर
बिरळा  मिस्या छन थाळी   

अजक्यालै हालत
गळसट्या , गलादर अर चकडैत
आज संड मुसंड बण्या छन   
The poet uses symbols successfully for creating  desired images.
उछेदी बथों
मनखी आज उडणा छन
मनख्यात रखीं च ढुंगा मा
Most of Indians are aware that the government agencies do not spend money on developmental works till February but due to fear of not getting budget for next year, the government officials spend money on non developmental works to show the uses of budget.

Sandeep Rawat has been successful in ridiculing the wrongs.
 The poet is successful in showing the differences between incorrect and right through his satirical verses.
In his satirical poems, Rawat shows his concern for justice, morality and virtue.

Harsha Puri was born in 1820 and was the chief priest (Mahant) of Kinkleshwar temple Shrinagar Garhwal

Mahant Harsha Puri created poetry in Garhwali and published them in Garhwali, a monthly magazine.

He was also the poet of Braj Bhasha and Khadi boli. This is the reason his Garhwali and the subject is influenced by Braj language and its spiritualism. His poems are with full of tenderness and melody. Social awareness orientation, Inspirational or idealistic subjects is the specialty.
Mahant Harsha Puri expired in 1905.
                   राजनीति
कवि : हर्ष पुरी गुसाईं (1820 -1905 )
राजाऊँ कु राज काज , जनु बगवानि साज
फूलुं का बगीचा मांज , बाड़ बाँधी चाहेंद। 
नानाऊं की गौर कद , ठुलाऊं मौळाइ देंद
छांटि छूंटि चुंगी लेंद , घणोप उपाडेंद।
तांकि कद गेड़ गांठ खाणों लाणो राज फांट
जड़ान उपाड़िक क्या ? येकि बेरी खायेंद। 
परजा कू पीड़ा दीक , बेकसूरों डांड लेक
चाहे कै कि मऊ बीक , अपजस पायेंद     

The above poem is about the important task of government (king is to serve the society.
The king is as gardener who looks after garden
The poem clearly states that when the king punishes innocent the king gets defame.

                  Initial Developing Phase of Modern Garhwali Poetry (1900-1925)


              Atma Ram Gairola is the Garhwali poets who initiated creating Garhwali poetry.

          Atma Ram Gairola was born 25th April, 1855 in Lal Dhung, Pati Badiyargarh of Tihri Garhwal.

           He used to publish his Garhwali poems in a monthly magazine- Garhwali. There are his poems published in Garhwali language poetry collection ‘Garhwali Kavitavali’. His poems are called as inspiring poems in Garhwali. Gairola used to inspire other Garhwalis to write poems in Garhwali rather than in Khadi boli.

         Chala gwero ! Goru hum charola bhyun ki raw, vakhi machha marla, dhungali bhi vakhi pakaula
Atmaramt Gairola is famous for his uses of pure Garhwali words in poem and was stern advocate of Garhwalism .  Atma Ram, Gairola pointed attention on the village system of Garhwal by his poems.
Atma Ram Gairola expired on 22 June, 1922
            The following poems of Gairola are proof that besides using pure Garhwali words he always used to pay attention on poetic values and lyrical values for creating poetries.
आत्माराम गैरोला (1855 -1922 ) की कविताएँ
      गई कुल्हाड़ी
गई कुल्हाड़ी दुई हाथ जोड़ी
डाळा  मु माँगी एक हाथ टैणी
नाचीज जाणी दिई तैन दीनी
सो , बेंड पैरी जड़ काटण बैठी। 
The Kulhadi poem stresses on cooperation and respecting each other than conflicts.
 पंछी पंचक
अरे जागा जागा कब बिटि च कागा उड़ी उड़ी
करी करी 'काका काका ' घर घर जगौणु तुम सणी. 
उठी गैन पंछी करण लगि गनै जय जय
उठा भायौ जागा भजन बिच लागा प्रभु जी का
"घूघती घूघती ' घुगति घूगता की अति भली
भली मीठी बोली मधुर मदमाती मुदमई
हरी डाँड्यौं कांठ्यौं धुनि पर धुनि छंन भरणी
हरी जी की गाथा हिरसी स्या च करणी
कुऊ कूऊ कुऊ कूऊ कुऊ कूऊ कुउऊ
छाजो धारु धारु बणु बणु बिटि गूंजण लगी
……।
The above poem is longer and shows that Gairola was master of creating geographical images.
          बटुलो 

घरमा कुछ आस मेरि छै
अब की दां सुत होण ज्यूं जरूर। 
सुत जोग  छ जन्म पत्री मा माँ
इनु जोशी जी भि बोल्दा छया।
हंसलो इनु खेललो इनु
इनु ग्वाया लगालो शनै शनै
हम दम्पति भी रहस्य मा

हत ! देंद सुणाइ 'बेटलो '
स्विलकूड़ा बिटि शब्द 'बेटुलो'
मरिगे निर्भाग'बेटुलो'
करिगे आस निरास 'बेटुलो'
सब ही आपण कुटुंब का
सुत माता अर भाई बंधु भी
छन शोक भर्याँ दुखी बड़ा
जनु कैको गयी हो मड़ो मरी

Betuli is is one of the best poems of Gairola. The poem discusses the importance of women and our ignoring their importance in society.

विकास के नाम पर पहाड़ोँ मेँ पहाड़
तथा जगल को तबाह किया जाना कहाँ तक
सही हैँ। विगत कुछ सालो से
दारमा वैली मेँ विकास हो रहा है रोड़
कटिंग चल रही है लेकिन एक ही पहाड़ व
जगल को बार बार काटा जा रहा है।
दारमा आने जाने वालो को याद
होगा कि चल छंम से नागलिँग के बिच
बहूमुल्य पेड़ अखरोट, चीड़, देवदार व
पांगड आदि का दो तीन किमी का जगल
पडता है। जहा रोड़ कटिँग के दौरान
पहाड़ व पेड़ो का अंधाधुन कटान
किया जा रहाँ है एक ही जगल को तीन
चार बार काटा गया हैँ। अगर पहाड़ व
जगल को वैज्ञानिक ढ़ग से कटा जाय
तो जगल को नुकसान होने से
बचाया जा सकता है तथा पहाड़ व जगल
को बार बार काटने
की आवश्यकता नहीँ पड़ेगी।
