Pahari is a beautigul lanuage and its a pity that Gennext is unable to speak it fluently. who is to blame? I think parents should make sure that their children speak to them i pahari. So what if the language has ben derived from nepali, hindi and marath? Once we have adopted it, it has become our own. I myself cant speak kumauni very fluently and I am definitely not proud of it!!

Well,
Friends, its always good to have our language whatever the dialect (doesn't matter) to be passed on to the new generation.
Wether u r in pune, London, Paris u may choose to speak the local for the comfort of others, and no doubt its always good to speak in a language which is understand by the listeners.
Question here is that why we are not speakeing our lanaguage when we meet our Unttarkhandi bhai's and I feel at times peole feel uncomfortable when u r speaking Uttarkhandi to other Bhai in a public place whereas Punjabi, Marathi people feel proud of using the same in discussions with his/her respective Bhai.
Main reason is that we have never tried to pass on this to our new generation.
And this should happen.... so that the generations should know their roots and culture past which I belive people living outside Uttrakhand are forgetting.
Regards,
Sunil

I am inclined to agree with Arvind; and add that one should voluntarily ensure that ability of using the dialects remains within the family, State and amongsts group friends. At the end of the day, neither Kumaoni nor Garhwali is a language. Those disagree with us, read the line at end of my signature!

BECAUSE,
""""""""There is no uttrakhandi language.""" """"""""" ""
Whatever,we speak is a dialect ,deriving its words from Hindi, Marathi and Nepali bhasha.
While writing it ,it is Devnagri Lipi.
Either it is Kumauni or Garhwali or Jaunsari or Tharu or Buxa or Punjabi or Hindi.
What dialect will a garhwali uttrakhandi from Tehri speak in?
What dialect will a kumaoni uttrakhandi from Okhalkanda speak in?
What dialect will a jaunsari uttrakhandi from Kotdwar speak in?
What dialect will a punjabi uttrakhandi from Rudrapur speak in?
What dialect will a jaat uttrakhandi from Haridwar speak in?
What dialect will a bengali uttrakhandi from mahtosh mor speak in?
What dialect will a tharu/buxa uttrakhandi from Khateema speak in?
Next time when you meet all of these uttrakhandis ,make a choice, how would you like to speak.
I attempted speaking Kumaoni once in a local uttrakhandi function ,and immediately I realised a strange look on the face of some of my Garhwali friends and I discontinued midway and started in Hindi to everybody's comfort.
Maharaj, it is as good as arguing as to why are we posting our mails in English, why
not in hindi ,our mother tongue ?
Same logic, convenience , not complexes.

Dosto,
As you are aware India is a multi culture and multi language country. However, we have “Unity in Diversity”. Generally, it is seen whenever any Punjabi, Gujrati, Benali, South Indian meet their people they prefer to speak in their own languages but when it is point of Uttarakhandi, this is somewhat not seen amongst us.
Most importantly, in many cities Uttarakhandi culture programmes are held. The programme goes on in our languages (like songs, plays etc) but Anchor and the Chief Guest always speak in Hindi or English. The same is the situation, of our Political Leaders also. They go for canvassing in hill areas and other places but their speeches are in Hindi only. (I am not discouraging of speaking our national language Hindi but we must also teach our new generation our regional language also so that they can take interest towards their culture also).
After all, why do we Uttarakhandi Hesitate in Speaking our own languages. May be the inferior complexity ? (Why ? - We are none to second in any field).
We invite to participate in this debate :-
