Namaskar,
I am overwhelmed by the response of my fellow members of this forum. Thanks everybody.
For implementation of any decision one has to think rationally and logically. May be I am a bit older than most of my fellow members to think in these terms!! In these times anyone older by more than 5 years is considered OLD and people above 45 are DIANOSOROUS!!
Jokes apart, for initiatives like these one has to first assess logistics at command. For that I have divided the whole project in two parts, for the moment. I shall be touring the area, visiting the Schools and meeting the Principals (and hopefully have some kind of fruitful interaction with the students) between 19th and 23rd January'09. I'll assess the requirements of the students and accordingly decide the curriculum and the best possible method to not only meet their aspirations but how to work within our limitations.
At the moment my guess is that we should form two teams, visiting the Schools alternately. This way we can visit the school every month, thus maintaining sustained thrust and monitor progress of both the sides - students as well as our team members. The project really gets started in April, 2009 and the team which goes in April has to brief the team going there in May. There should be constant interaction between all the members forming part of the two teams. The teams should ideally interact through this forum besides personal interaction.
The teams will require course material. Most of the books are available online at
www.ncert.nic.in. By the end of February or early March, I'll be able to generate the requisite supporting material. We need to prepare at least 100 copies of this material for each visit to be distributed amongst the children. The next course of action for the members opting to teach would be to prepare themselves. This is the hardest part for me.
Apart from this, we need transportation. If we take 4-5 members in a team, we can take our own cars, just to reduce the expenditure. Manila is approximately 350 Kms from NOIDA, so it may take 1000 Kms per visit, which means the team will have to spend approximately Rs.3,500/- per visit on transportation alone. This is a conservative estimate. If we hire private vehicles like Qualis, Innova etc, the cost would be more than double.
For this we require help of some industrialist etc so that this monthly expenditure of Rs.10,000/- (approximately) is taken care of.
If any fellow member has better ideas or wants to suggest something, please feel free to do so.
As I am on leave due to fever, I will be able to interact more frequently these days. Till then,
NAMASKAR
