Tata group explore investment opportunities in Uttarakhand 
 
 DEHRA DUN: A high level delegation of Tata group on Thursday called on Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank at the Secretariat for discussing possibilities of investment in Uttarakhand in various sectors like contract farming, tourism, IT and power.

During a meeting of the Chief Minister with Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata on November 15 last here, Nishank had informed the latter that the state government had created congenial atmosphere for the investment.

In the wake of assurance of Tata, the visit of the delegation can be termed as a big stride in the direction of investment in the state, an official release said.

Nishank hoped that minimum of Rs 10,000 crore capital investment and 50,000 direct and indirect employment could be expected from the Tata group.

For the purpose of accelerating the proposals presented by the Tata group and strengthening the single window system, he directed Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar to nominate Principal Secretary Planning S Ramaswami as nodal officer.

On various proposals of different projects of public services to be carried out on PPP mode, presented by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), he directed the officers concerned to initiate necessary action after examination.

Nishank asked senior officers of Tata Group to propose investments in hilly areas and assured that the state would extend full cooperation on the schemes for hilly regions.

Tata Motors Vice President A S Puri informed the Chief Minister that the group had encouraging experience of working in Uttarakhand Plant at Pantnagar established in a record period of one year. He apprised that the maximum target of production of vehicles 2.5 lakh per year would be extended to 5 lakh per year.

Besides, the Group was also interested for investment in contract farming sector, he suggested.

Earlier, in a meeting of the Secretaries with the officers of Tata Group presided over by the Chief Secretary , possibilities of investment was discussed at length.

Owing to the nearness to the national capital, better transport facilities, high literacy rate, better law and order, and pollution free environment, Uttarakhand is fast emerging as moving state towards investment, Chief Secretary informed.

During the meeting, Tata Group has expressed its interest in contract farming, information technology, run-of-the river hydro project, tourism, health and low cost housing projects.

Tata group officials were informed about various incentives including subsidy in income tax, capital investment subsidy, exemption in entry tax of plant and machinery etc.

	ndustrial Expo 2011 opens in Haridwar
	The Industrial Expo 2011 today witnessed a major crowd on the opening day, at SIDCUL, Haridwar , providing a key business platform for the stakeholders.  A joint initiative of CII and Government of Uttarakhand, Industrial Expo is Uttarakhand's first focused B to B Show for medium and small industries, with over 146 exhibitors, divided into five concurrent shows, varying from engineering and industrial maintenance to Auto components and tools alongwith Green technologies.  Talking about the focus of the event, Rajiv Berry, Chairman, CII, Uttarakhand State, stated that the need of the hour is 'linkages' and Industrial Expo 2011 is espically geared to address this important issue.  "We have infrastructure, manpower, and resources in Uttarakhand. What we need now is to provide a dialogue between manufacturers, service providers and end users. The presence of large companies presents a huge opportunity for the medium and small industries vis--vis vendor development, ancillary development, becoming component supplier, services like transport, logistics etc as well as also a huge opportunity for manpower development but it is critical for them to seize these opportunities. The task is difficult but CII is fully committed to provide an impetus to industry to achieve this  objective," he affirmed.  Attractive destination as a global outsourcing hub and manufacturing base for original equipment manufacturers, the expo attracted industry representatives from various place like Daman, Bangalore, Nasik, Panipat, Ludhiana and Jalandhar.  Gurpreet Khalon, Executive Member, Automotive Parts Manufacturing Association Ludhiana(APMA), here at expo with a delegation of twenty member companies said, we are here to explore opportunities. Most of us deal in gear parts and auto fastners and what better location than Uttarakhand to explore business.  Narinder Bhambra, President, All India Fastners Association accompanying ten industry members of Ludhiana, complementing the efforts of CII said that the show is neatly organized and there is a lot of information to grab. We met the Tata Motors and Sterlite technologies and are hopeful for something to come up.  Where small scale companies were seen wooing and enquiring the industry giants for the prospects, the giants also felt the equal importance of such platforms which are designed to promote intra industry trade, and healthy business relationships.  "With an investment of more than Rs 25,000 crore the state of Uttarakhand has attracted top line companies to set up their manufacturing base at Haridwar, Udhamnagar and Panthnagar. With the increase in the manufacturing industry , there comes a need of logistics, outsourcing and additional capacity building.Vicinity of vendor from supply point ,its infrastructure and existing clients are important, commented Deepak Tikle, Vice President and Plant Head, ABB.  A big hit with the industries, Vendor Development Programmes at Industrial Expo 2011 discussed vendor selection processes, and the required Quality standards for the suppliers.       New Delhi, March 8 (PTI) Fortis Healthcare today said it plans to set up a cardiac centre at Dehradun under Public Private Partnership with the Uttarakhand government at an investment of Rs 10 crore.
The facility at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) Hospital would be the first comprehensive cardiac care facility in Dehradun, and will be operational by November 2011, Fortis Healthcare said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
"We are pleased to join hands with the Government of Uttarakhand and look forward to serving the people of the state in our distinctive patient centric manner," Fortis Healthcare Regional Director Ashish Bhatia said.
Under the terms of agreement, Fortis will invest in infrastructure and technology as the hospital building is already provided. The initial phase of contract will be for a period of 10 years, the company added.
Commenting on the occasion Government of Uttarakhand DG Health Services Asha Mathur said:" We are confident that the people of Dehradun will benefit immensely and...will improve the healthcare ecosystem in the city".
The proposed facility will have Cardiac Care Unit, cath lab, cardiac OT, non invasive diagnostic lab and intensive care unit for the cardiac surgery, Fortis said.
"The addition of this facility takes the Fortis'' network to a total of 55 hospitals with over 8,000 beds across the country," it added.
Shares of Fortis Healthcare were today trading at Rs 152.35 in the afternoon trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange, up 0.59 per cent from its previous close.

	The Government of India and the World Bank signed agreements amounting to IDA credit of 7.98 million dollars additional finance for the Uttarakhand Decentralized Watershed Development Project which will support the ongoing watershed development Project in Uttarakhand.  The agreement was signed by Venu Rajamony, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, on behalf of the Government of India,i M. H. Khan, Secretary, Watershed on behalf of the Uttarakhand Government and Roberto Zagha, Country Director India, on behalf of the World Bank.  The additional funding of 7.98 million dollars for the Uttarakhand Decentralized Watershed Development Project will sustain support for ongoing activities like helping farmers set up small agribusinesses.  These are critical to achieving the planned 10 per cent increase in rural incomes in project areas by the end of the implementation period. The need for additional funds was brought about largely by increases in prices of goods and services since the Project began in 2004.  Speaking on the occasion, Rajamony said that if current trends are maintained, the targeted 10 percent increase in the household income by end of the Project is likely to be realized for the project.  "The additional financing will help support critical agribusiness activities and further boost rural incomes," he added.  The credit is provided by the World Bank's fund for the poorest, the International Development Association (IDA), and has 35 years to maturity and a 10-year grace period.  Uttarakhand is currently implementing 2 State projects together amounting to 203 million dollars.
