Delta unveils green factory in Rudrapur

Delta Electronics Inc. launched its first green factory at Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. As part of Delta's expansion plans in India, the eco-friendly factory reinforces its mission: "to provide innovative, clean and efficient energy solutions for a better tomorrow." The grand opening ceremony featured speeches by honoured guests, including Dr. BS Bisht, Vice Chancellor of Pant Nagar University, Mr. Poldej Worachat, General Minister Thailand, Mr. Puo-Suz Shih, Acting Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, and Yancey Hai, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Delta.
Delta's Rudrapur factory spans 16,657.48 sq. m manufacturing space of products for power management, display solutions, components, industrial automation, automotive electronics and networking solutions. The factory has been designed and built using environmental conservation measures. Delta believes that it will provide a healthy and safe workplace for employees.

The state-of-the-art Rudrapur green factory is Delta's first factory in India that incorporates eco-friendly energy saving practices and waste management system. It is registered with the Indian Green Building Council and is aiming for the highest green building accreditation. Delta India has made use of various energy efficient technologies. Natural light harvesting saves electricity and reduces carbon emission by 36,800lb. every year. Turbo ventilation saves electricity and saves 55,200lb. of carbon emission every year. The solar panels installed in the plant would reduce green house gas emission by 5mn lb. The power factor controller saves 12-15 per cent electric energy by maintaining the power factor at 0.99 instead of 0.85. The linear panel polynum insulation saves electric energy due to minimum requirement of forced cooling. The 37016.6-square-metre factory will provide an ecologically sensitive, energy-saving, waste reducing and healthy environment for the local population.

The Sewage Treatment Plant has been put up to recycle and reuse water. It functions on anaerobic bacterial action and the water is used for non-contact applications. Storm water harvesting is also carried out to conserve water.

Featured green facts include:

- Approximately 60% of the total area of the factory is open and green to benefit the lifestyle and health of employees

- Low volatile organic compound paints reduce toxic emission to a considerable extent

- Green materials such as brick cova, fly ash, gypsum are maximised in construction

- R 407-an environmentally-friendly gas is used for air conditioning

Honda Siel Power Products shifts plant from Rudrapur to Greater Noida

Nodia effective August 25, 2008.

Accordingly the production has stopped with effect from August 25, 2008. There have been some IR (Industrial Relations) disturbances due to this, which are in the process of being sorted out, pursuant to which the process of shifting will commence.
It makes sense for the company to shift component making to Greater Noida as this will save costs. In 1988 Honda Siel Power Products Limited started manufacturing machine components in Uttarakhand.

Honda Siel Power Products Limited (HSPP), formerly known as Shriram Honda Power Equipment Limited, is a joint venture between Honda Motor Co. Japan and Siel Ltd., with 67% Equity Stake of Honda Motor Co. Japan.

It is engaged in the manufacturing of Portable Generators, Water Pumping Sets and General Purpose Engines at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities at Greater Noida, Rudrapur and Pondicherry.

Greenply sees FY09 profit up 8 pct; rev at 8 bln rupees
Thu Sep 11, 2008 8:19am IST  Email | Print | Share| Single Page[-] Text
  • NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Plywood maker Greenply Industries Ltd expects profit to grow about 8 percent in current financial year, slower than last year's 72 percent when it had added new capacities, its executive director said.

Revenue for the year ending March 2009 is likely to reach 8 billion rupees, helped by higher product prices and strong demand, Shobhan Mittal told Reuters in an interview after launching Greenply's medium density fibre factory in Uttarakhand.

Greenply posted a net profit of 387.3 million rupees on revenue of 5.42 billion rupees for the year ended March 2008, which saw its particle board production tripling and plywood production risingb by 41 percent.

"We would maintain standard industry average profit of about 7-8 percent," Mittal said, adding, "Demand is pretty good. And as of now we have not seen any slowdown in any of our product categories."

The firm will invest 3.65 billion rupees over next two years to expand by setting up a medium density fibre board plant in Uttarakhand and its second laminate unit in Himachal Pradesh.

Mittal said the firm would raise 2.60 billion rupees through debt and the balance would be generated through internal accruals and equity to fund expansion plans.

When asked if the firm would consider acquiring units to expand in the plywood and laminate segments, Mittal replied: "The option is always open."

Greenply plans to raise prices of plywood by 3-4 percent by October as raw material prices continue to surge, Mittal said.

RPT-Richa Ind to invest 1.25 bln rupees in Uttarakhand
Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:59am IST  Email | Print | Share| Single Page[-] Text
  • (Repeats story issued late on Thursday)

MUMBAI, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Richa Industries Ltd (RICH.BO: Quote, Profile, Research), a fabrics and textiles maker, plans to invest 1.25 billion rupees on a pre-engineered building (PEB) infrastructure project in Uttarakhand to make steel structures, a top official said.

The plant, which is expected to be operational by April, 2009 would have a capacity of 54,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA), chairman and managing director Sushil Gupta said on Thursday.

PEBs consist of a steel framed building with components pre-designed to fit together in a vast variety of combinations.

The technology requires about 30 percent less steel as compared to conventional steel structures, and also saves time in completion of the building, Gupta said.

The plant is expected to start yielding revenues from FY10. Gupta said he expected about 60 percent revenue from its infrastructure services division in FY10.

"But it can go up to even 70 percent depending on capacity utilisation," he said in a media briefing.

Richa Industries, which changed its name from Richa Knits to mark its foray into infrastructure, will supply the steel structures to both residential projects as well as commercial buildings such as malls and airports, he added.

As part of the funding, the company is planning to raise about 850 million rupees through a global depositary issue and plans to list the GDRs on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, Gupta said

Hello Pantnagar?

Will West Bengal’s loss be Uttarakhand’s gain? There’s a buzz in the Pantnagar plant of Tata Motors that equipment from Singur is being shifted here.

While Tata officials are tightlipped, Uttarakhand government stated that executives from the company would meet senior bureaucrats at the state capital on Thursday to discuss various issues. No details are out as yet on the agenda of the meeting.

According to locals at Pantnagar, increased activity has been witnessed at the plant where Tata manufactures its ACE mini trucks and MAGIC passenger vehicles and outsiders have been barred from venturing near the gates.

“In the past few days, there has been a lot of activity in the plant and we have heard that assembling of Nano has already started and some units are ready for the October deadline,” said a local resident.

Chief Secretary Indu Kumar Pande welcomed the possibility of Nano project coming to Uttarakhand as it would create ample job opportunities for locals.

“We haven’t received any official communication from Tatas regarding their intention to produce Nano from Uttarakhand”, Pande said. Tata executives would be calling on Industrial department officials on Thursday.

“The officials are coming on Thursday but meeting is all about their old issues”, said P.C. Sharma, Principal Secretary Industries.

Tata Motors considering Nano rollout from Pantnagar

Tata Motors considering Nano rollout from Pantnagar
25 Sep, 2008, 0024 hrs IST,Sutanuka Ghosal, ET Bureau

KOLKATA: Ratan Tata is yet to officially bring the curtain down on Singur. But behind the scenes, the Tatas have clearly moved on, albeit silently.

Information trickling in from the highest echelons of Bombay House suggested Tata Motors is tantalisingly close to rolling out the Nano from Pantnagar.

A Tata Motors team is meeting senior bureaucrats of the Uttarakhand government on Thursday to press for a crucial 100-acre plot adjacent to its existing auto facility in Pantnagar.

The Tata mission is to garner the requisite land (1,100 acres approx) to rejig the Pantnagar complex to manufacture both the Ace pick-up truck and Nano in tandem.

The Tatas are keen to roll out Nano from Pantnagar in the October-December quarter in step with their original Singur schedule. Early indications are that the plant will be equipped to roll out some 200-300 Nanos per day.

Decibel levels are on the rise at Pantanagar in the run-up to a possible Tata pullout announcement from Singur shortly after Tata Motors MD Ravi Kant returns from an overseas trip on September 30, hinted Tata circles.

Uttarakhand Industrial Development principal secretary P C Sharma told ET, "The Pantnagar plant has enough space to manufacture Nano. A Tata Motors team is meeting us on September 25 where we will discuss the handing over some 100 acres to the company. The company wants the land to turn its Pantnagar plant into an integrated auto complex. We will discuss issues like lease rental, labour and environmental concerns with Tata Motors."

Incidentally, when Tatas suspended work at Singur on August 29, Uttarakhand was one of the first governments to invite them to relocate the Nano plant.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors has moved equipment key to manufacturing Nano from its under-construction plant at Singur to another facility to meet its rollout obligation. Sources said that equipment was carted out from the plant and the cargo is believed to have been moved to the company's plant in Pantnagar in Uttarakhand.

Tata circles concede that the prime enablers in rolling out the Nano from Pantnagar are the huge tax incentives that Uttarakhand offers. "If Tata Motors rolls out the Nano from Pantnagar, it will be able to retain its Rs 1 lakh price tag," Tata sources indicate.

Uttarakhand offers 100% excise duty exemption for 10 years, 100% exemption from corporate I-T for the first five years and 30% exemption from corporate I-T for the next five years.
