Many critics state that there is shortage of knowledgeable technicians in Garhwali and Kumauni filmdom (Hillywood). However, it is not so. There are well conversant film-creative in Kumauni-Garhwali filmdom (Hillywood) as Rajendra Chauhan who provided music for at least 5000 songs (Hindi, Bhojpuri, Ladakhi, Awadhi, Haryanvi, Himachali, Kumauni and Garhwali).
Rajendra’s forefathers settled in Kotdwara from Chakotiya, Masi, Almora, Kumaun long back. Born on 28/1/1967 at Kotdwara, Garhwal, Rajendra had attraction for music and songs. In his student life, Rajendra Chauhan used to participate in cultural programs regularly. After finishing his studies, Rajendra Chauhan came to Delhi and joined ‘T Series’ where Rajendra got  opportunities providing music for more than 5000 songs in various languages music albums or audio cassettes.
Rajendra Chauhan provided music for Garhwali VCD films as ‘Bwari to ini (1998, director- B.s Negi); Satmanglya (1999, directed by Mahavir Negi); Bhagwani Beti (directed by Subhash sajwan, 2003) and Pativrta Rami (directed by Santosh Khetwal, 2010).
Chauhan provided music in tens of Garhwali and Kumauni music albums. Very soon, Chauhan will release his own production music album ‘Vasanti’.
Rajendra Chauhan is worried about worsening situation for Garhwali-Kumauni (Hillywood) films and music albums that the producers don’t get return in time or nor get return at all. Chauhan states that in long past, fifty music Garhwali-Kumauni (Hillywood) albums were being released every month and now, he does not get news of new release. However, Chauhan is optimistic that Garhwali-Kumauni (Hillywood) film creative will find the ways in nearest future and Garhwali-Kumauni (Hillywood) film industry will re-bloom.

Jiwan Singh Bisht: The First Kumauni Feature Film Producer

Review of Development of Garhwali-Kumauni (Uttarakhandi) Films, Music Albums, Documentary films -27
                                                Bhishma Kukreti
[Notes on first regional language film producer; first Kumauni language film producer; first Uttarakhandi regional language-Kumauni film producer; first Mid Himalayan regional language-Kumauni film producer; first Himalayan regional language-Kumauni film producer; first North Indian regional-Kumauni language film producer; first Indian regional language-Kumauni film producer; first South Asian regional language-Kumauni film producer; first Asian regional language film producer; first Oriental regional language-Kumauni film producer]
Whenever, there will be discussion of film, history will always remember Jiwan Singh Bisht. Jiwan Singh Bisht produced first ever Kumauni language feature film Megha A.
Jiwan Singh Bisht was born in village Lwali, Salan Patti, Almora of Uttarakhand in 1950.  His father was in Indian army and wanted that Jiwan join the army. Jiwan Singh Bisht had other plan. Young Jiwan was interested in theatre in his college time. His father never wanted Jiwan to join theatre and Jiwan joined State Bank of India after graduation.
When this author asked Jiwan Singh about his entry into Kumauni film production Jiwan Singh Bisht disclosed that he was inspired by Garhwali feature films as Jagwal, Ghar Javain. One day, he read that the language lovers of Tulu a regional language of Karnataka produced film in Tulu too. Bisht became eager to produce Kumauni feature film.
Jiwan Singh started to conceptualize the film. He met friends as Rajendra Bora who wrote story on the concept of Jiwan Singh. Sheel Chaudhary (a Haryanvi and Hindi film activist) wrote the script in Hindi. This author was surprised to know that the script was written in Hindi. Bisht explained that it is difficult for average artist to read Kumauni or Garhwali script. Therefore the script was written in Hindi and given to the artist to understand well. At the time of shooting, the Kumauni dialogues were handed over to artist.
The story is about the grandfather insisting his grandson for joining army (though old man lost his son in war). The film deals the subject of worsening position of hills due to migration very effectively.  The leading male character of first Kumauni feature film is Kumauni and female leading charter is Garhwali.

Kaka Sharma (non Kumauni) was director for the first Kumauni feature film ’Megha A’. Kumauni music expert Hem Singh (resides in Lucknow) was the music director of first Kumauni feature film ‘Megha A’. Jiwan Singh Bisht himself wrote lyrics for first Kumauni feature film Megha A’.
The first Kumauni feature film ‘Megha A’ was first released in Ranikhet in 1987 and later on various cities of Uttarakhand. The response was overwhelming where ever the film was released. Bisht confesses that film did good business. However, Jiwan Singh Bisht did not get back his investment due to middlemen.
Jiwan Singh did not produce another Kumauni film because he says that Phadis are not wealthy that they could invest in loss making adventure. Bisht has written poetries, tens of stories and novels. After producing first Kumauni feature film, Jiwan Singh produced telefilms, documentary films for Doordarshan and documentary films for other government departments.
Recently Jiwan Singh produced a religious VCD Hindi film based on the story of Goril /Gwill deity. He is waiting to distribute it very soon.
Jiwan Singh Bisht says that the biggest hassles for regional films as Kumauni or Garhwali feature or VCD films is the problem of distribution. Till the problem of distribution is solved Bisht does not see great future for regional films as Kumauni or Garhwali films.
Jiwan Singh Bisht is happy family man. His three daughters are married and son is well settled in Delhi. Jiwan Singh lives in Delhi.
The history will remember Jiwan Singh Bisht for his initiative for producing firs t ever Kumauni feature film.

Himalaya Kab Bwallo: Example of Experiment in Garhwali Music Cassette Literature
Review of Garhwali Music cassette (Himalaya Kab Bwallo, 2001)-1
Review of Development of Garhwali-Kumauni (Uttarakhandi) Films, Music Albums, Documentary films -28
                                                Bhishma Kukreti

[Notes on Experiment in Regional language Music Cassette Literature; Experiment in Garhwali language Music Cassette Literature; Experiment in Uttarakhandi Regional language Music Cassette Literature; Experiment in Music Cassette Literature of Garhwali a regional language of Mid Himalaya; Experiment in Music Cassette Literature of Garhwali a regional language of Himalaya; Experiment in Music Cassette Literature of Garhwali a regional language of North India; Experiment in Music Cassette Literature of Garhwali an Indian  regional language; Experiment in Music Cassette Literature of Garhwali a South Asian  regional language; Experiment in Music Cassette Literature of Garhwali an Asian  regional language; Experiment in Music Cassette Literature of Garhwali an Oriental  regional language]
Usually, there are popular songs related to love etc in Garhwali music cassettes. Renowned Garhwali poet Prital Apachhyan states that usually, there are songs related to Syali, Bau in Garhwali music cassettes. However, the Garhwali music cassette ‘Himalaya Kab Bwallo’ released in 2001is unique. The cassette producer Rama Cassette company took the new step by composing Gazals of renowned modern Garhwali poets Madan Duklan and Girish Sundariyal. There are eight Gazals of Madan and Girish in this Garhwali music cassette Himalaya Kab Bwallo (2001).
There are experiments not only in Gazal writings but the music directors also did experiment in music too.  There is satire song ‘Ghughti’ wherein there is criticism of contemporary politics in Garhwal –
The song  sung by famous Indian singer Narendra Singh Negi
अर खैरइ चुल्लि जगाणी होली   is capable to show the images of rural Garhwali woman life and is capable for creating pathos rapture.
The song written by Girish Chhachhlaando’ is mixer of Thadya and Chaunfula tone.
The Gazal written by Madan Duklan compels the audience to find the question of Himalaya protection and development.

There are other songs of same status as above.
The music composer Alok Molasi did many experiments to make Gazals melodious. Alok Molasi and Sangeeta Dhaundiyal sung the Gazal in this remarkable Garhwali music caste cassette Himalaya Kab Bwallo (2001).
The critics appreciated the march of Alok Molasi and Rama caste company.

Third song is also message oriented about responsibilities of society and individuals in hills development. Fourth song is about protection of trees those provide water and conserve soil and stop soil erosion.
Fifth song discusses about high speed entry of corruption. Sixth song discusses about benefits of good education and inspires parents to take care in educating new generation.  The last song talks about unity. All praise to Shri Bhuwneshawari  Mahila Ashram Anjani Sain , Tihri Garhwal for taking step in producing  inspirational music cassette. Prital Bhartwan, Meena Rana, Devendra Kaintyura, Jitendra Panwar, Upendra Kukreti and Sohan lal are singers of this marvelous audio caste. Upendra Kukreti provides music for this cassette.
