Nishank seeks 2000 MW additional power from Centre
Dehradun, June 3 -- In a bid to protest against the recent decision of the Union Government decision, in which they have scrapped two hydro power projects of the Uttarakhand Government, Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has demanded 2000 MW additional power from the Centre.
To expedite his claim he met Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde at his office in Delhi on Wednesday. In which he also demanded 25 per cent power share in Tehri Hydro Power Corporation, which is currently being shared between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
During meeting he also demanded that Union Government should allocate them additional energy, which they had allocated to the State Government during Kumbha Mela-2010, to the State to cope up with energy demand on Char-Dham Yatra route.
Talking about recent order of Union Government to scrap State's two power projects, Pala Maneri and Bhaironghati, Chief Minister said that if Union Government takes it in view of environment then they should give 2000 MW additional energy free of cost to the State. You also sanctioned six MMSCMD gas to set up energy based power plant in the State and also sanctioned coal block on the pattern of other states.
During meeting Dr Nishank strongly talked about 1000 MW Tehri Hydro power projects and 25 per cent power was allocated to then UP government. As per the UP Reorganization Act-2000 Section 4 (3) whatever commitments were made by the government before inception of Uttarakhand will be transferred to the state wherever the company's head office would be situated. In view of this 25 per cent power allocation should be made to the Uttarakhand. Till 2008-09 UP government has taken benefit of Rs 71.90 crore as royalty from Tehri so the money should be reallocated to Uttarakhand immediately.
For the development of New Tehri infrastructure Rs 78 crore were spent and Rs 58 crore yet to receive by the state so he requested to make arrangement of the money on union government level. State power demand is increasing by 14 per cent annually. At present state gets 43 per cent energy from state, union government and private enterprises and making arrangement from buying energy, overdrawing and banking.
State is getting mere 83 million unit power from all sources including state, union and private power projects and also buying energy & overdrawing from central pool and banking with other states. Later Shinde assured that he would do something concrete to sort our state grievances. Published by HT Syndication with permission from Pioneer.
