Respect Women, Elevate the World | 16 Day Awareness Campaign against Gender Based Violence from Nov 25, 2016 (End Violence Day) to Dec 10, 2016 (Human Rights Day)
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women being a global observance evinces existence of violence against women across globe. Having its roots in discrimination and patriarchal mindsets, the disease is swelling in every sphere including households, workplaces and society, endangering women survival. Since last year, post introduction by UN, pledge to end violence is not made just on 25th November, but commemorated globe over in the form of a campaign from November 25 i.e. International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women till December 10 which is Human Rights Day, tagging violence as a gross violation of human right.Acknowledging the magnitude of the problem and then address it, during this period, Santulan observes 16 days’ campaign under the banner of ‘Respect Women, Elevate the World’ across India to spread the word among masses for re-establishing lost status of women and reiterating Zero Tolerance to violence. After creating thousands of beneficiaries last year, this year, the organization objects to create awareness in the institutions that witness varied mindsets & age groups where such violence breathes and is thus conducting workshops in schools, colleges and offices. This year, the campaign is being conducted as a sub-campaign under the ongoing women empowerment drive against * selective abortions-‘Tu Hai Shakti’. From raw mindsets to prejudiced, it endeavours to cater to the root cause by rectifying the falsely created values against women and wiping mud of myths and misconceptions over real facts. The workshop encompasses showcase of forum theatre, a powerful and influential visual tool, to explain various forms of violence viz, female feticide, gender discrimination resulting in stereotyping, domestic violence and exploitation, with a window inviting attendees’ opinions on the displayed scenario. A video summarising various forms of crime against women and their inter-linkage is also being screened. Further, an edifying presentation supported with discourse is presented highlighting appalling statistics of rising crime against women, female feticide being the worst form and foundation of other crimes. By means of presentation, a vigorous attempt is being made to elucidate the illusions in regards to women respect and value, right to funeral pyre, responsibility of * of the child, less no. of girls means less crime, educated people do not contribute to crime rate, to name a few. Moreover, special emphasis is being laid on the two-pronged solution to this hazard, one is to recreate respect for women in society and other is to make woman understand her self-worth, as directed by head and founder of the organization Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji.The organization is working ceaselessly to put a full stop to the pervasive and entrenched ill practices against girl child and bring the situation back to state of ‘Santulan’. With its numerous ongoing campaigns during the year in this regard, it is targeting majorly on eradication of female feticide, not from society but mindsets, reiterate value for girl child and empower woman through self-realization.
