Classical vocalist Madhulika Negi has also sung in albums and films in Garhwali, Kumaoni, Haryanvi and Rajasthani. She has won both popular and crit- ic acclaim. Negi started learn- ing classical music at an early age. She made her debut in a Garhwali album and went on to perform in many concerts and shows. She trained in classical music under I. S. Bawra and semi classical music under Shanti Hiranand.
“I loved singing as a child and after graduation decided to pur- sue my hobby as a career. So I got admission in Masters in Music,“ said Negi. Endowed with a captivating voice, Negi could reproduce any nuance with amazing clarity. She gave her first public performance on Delhi Day at Pragati Maidan and has never looked back since.
She has sung for scores of albums in different regional lan- guages.
The 33-year-old vocalist got training Visharad in Hindustani classical vocal from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in 1999 and Alankaar in 2003. Thereafter she obtained a diploma in semi classical vocal from Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra in 2001.
Negi has sung in nearly 50 albums and films. She has per- formed during various cultur- al events and musical pro- grammes on television.
“I never restricted myself to classical and semi classical music and tried other forms of singing. like folk too,“ she said.
She is considered one of the best vocalists in regional lan- guages. Negi is known for her unique style and mastery over ragas and rhythm. She was asso- ciated with the All India Radio as a graded singer. “I am the first in my family who chose music as a career. I love teach- ing music so I run classes. My Garwhali album is slated to come out soon and I am likely to perform in May at the India Habitat Centre,“ said Negi.
