          There was a family in Ravain. Randei was the family head. Randei was master in welcoming guests. Her family had huge farm land. Randei family was prosperous family.
              One day, a guest from Gangad (person from other than Ravain region especially from Ganga valley) came to visit Randei family. Randei cooked mutton, rice. She offered Gangadi fellow mutton, rice and alcoholic drink made by millet. Gangadi fellow took alcoholic drink and ate rice with mutton. Gangadi could not eat much mutton could not consume wine too. However, he was unconscious for two days because of mutton and wine. It is said that Gangadi can’t take much mutton and can’t consume alcoholic drink.

             It was now, night. A person lost his path and he reached too far at River Bank. There, he met a beautiful young girl. She and he were walking on the path away from the river bank. They reached far away. When there was dawn to come, he watched carefully the young girl and found that she was a witch or a female ghost. That person ran away from there and reached to a village.
 He told his story of the night that he was with a witch. The villagers hackled him from their village that since he was with a witch it might happen that the witch may hit their small children. Our children and grandchildren might be dead by the effect of ghosts and witches.
                    नौ ऊँ दूर नौऊ यख नि अऊ यख नि अउ
                      हमारा छ बटड़ा नातेडा झसी मरला छलि

           All over Garhwal, it is believed that Ghosts or demons don’t come near to cow. There are a couple of different folk stories in different parts of Garhwal about cow protecting human beings from Ghost. The following folk story is from Ravain region of Uttarkashi and Dehradun.
           A person was running as a terrible Ghost was running after him. The person ran towards the forest but Ghost did not stop following him. The fearful person ran from the jungle to the paddy field but Ghost also followed the person there. The person ran to a millet field but could not protect him from the Ghost. The person ran towards the village and saw a cowshed. The person ran fast and entered the cowshed where cows were there. The Ghost could not enter in cowshed as the cow protects human beings from ghosts.

 The following is a folktale about the importance of dream in Ravain region of Garhwal-

               Darwan slept in the night. In his dream, he saw a cat. The cat was steering Darwan and was weeping. In the dream, Darwan ran after the cat.  The cat again started steering Darwan and wept. Darwan woke up. Darwan went for fetching water to Pandera (Water source). Darwan had a quarrel with a person at the water source. The person hit Darwan four times by a rod. The whole day of Darwan was in bad shape because Darwan saw a cat in a dream.
