Namaskar,

Upadhyay ji aur Mehta ji Dhanyavad.

Kapotri Devi was not the only female singer of Akashvani.  There were so many.  If you have heard 'O Paruwa Baujyu, Chapal kya lya-rachha yash', 'Chhana-Bilauri jhan diya baujyu', 'Baat lagi baryaat chyeli, baith doli ma', etc. you would remember another great kumauni singer Veena Tiwari.  There are many more whom we people have almost forgotten.

A long time back, I visited Maasi-Chaukhutiya and Soni areas where I heard an old gentleman by the name Pratap Singh, who though remained  unheard of, who was a wonderful singer.  Then there was one Nandan Singh Mehra, a school teacher and resident of Village Pinakot-Daunthiya, Talla Salt, Distt. Almora (if I remember exactly), who was an accomplished singer and great poet. These two gentlemen were auditioned artists of All India Radio (AIR) Almora.

There were, and still are, folk singers unknown to the outside world because they never got the chance to sing for Radio.  There was another lady singer Basanti Devi in the Sult area who was a great folk singer.

During my recent visit (this week itself), I chanced upon meeting some young singers who sang beautiful songs in their lilting voices.  I felt elated and had tears in my eyes because I know these young children would never get a chance to be on Radio.

Namaskar

Mahendra Ji,

Thanx a lot for sharing such information with us.

I belive there several such hidden talent who have lost the plateform due to reason unkonwn. I remember my childhood days when my mother used to say me to tune Aakaswani Lucknow, Nazibadad, Almora to listen the Uttarakhandi songs.

Songs like " Chali Bai Motor Aage, Pahado ko Thando Pandi, Yo baato kahan Jano holo, hai teri rumala so on.. We used to listen on radio. I had also enquired about the Kabootri Devi with someone from Nainital and he told me that she resides with her dauther in Pithogarh.

The video i have posted from  youtube here, this is her one of the performance in Haldwani...

thanx a lot once again sir...

Salute you for your dedication and love for pahad.

We have to find some tracks of Kabootri Devi. I am sure these must be with Aakswani. She is still alive but not keeping good health.

Our music industry people should also do some recording from old people too.

I saw a news on ETv yesterday on Kabootri Devi. She is leading very poverty in Pithoragarh.

She was first women Fork Singer from uttarakhandi who had recorded her voice in Aakaswani, lucknow, Najibabad and even mumbai, she added.

She is in her 70 + age and nobody is there to help her in such a poor financial condition. State Govt even did not take any care of her.

She had sung several populr songs like :

    - Paahado to Thando Pani

   -  Aaj Paani Jaav - 2

Many others song famous. Still her voice has quality to be recorded some more songs before leave this universe.
