Narendra Singh Negi is one of the most prominent folk singers of the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Born near Pauri town in Pauri Garhwal District, Negi started his career as a folk singer in his early youth. His distinctive voice and prolific career made him a household name amongst Garhwalis both in India and abroad.

He has sung hundreds of songs and produced almost a hundred albums relating to almost all social and cultural aspects of Uttarakhand.

In years past, he has also sung sad elegies to Tehri town, recently inundated by the Tehri dam, as well as fiery protest songs during the Uttarakhand separate state movement. Negi is a good singer his song represent the Garhwal everywhere and make good and bright theme in listener's mind.

In 2007, the Calcutta-based Telegraph[1] called him the "Dylan of the Hills" for his 2006 protest song, Nauchami Narain, against Chief Minister ND Tiwari and the entire political class of Uttarakhand.

No doubt. Negi is one of the greatest singers of Uttarakhand. He has been rendering his service to the Uttarakhandi Music Industry since 1970 and has given enumerable of hit songs.

One of the superhit album "Nauchami Narayana" which had rocked the politics of Uttarakhand.

Apart from this, his songs of "Nanda Raj Jat" are very devotional. At a age of 65, he is still on the job to release the new albums.

All the best to Negi Ji for coming future.

I am a big fan of Negi ji........His songs present a real scene of Pahad......he touches social issues so beautifully....let it be Chipko, Sharab, Migration, corruption.......nothing can escape from him..........ek baat bataaooo....unke gaane sunte-2 thoda Garhwaali seekh gaya main (samajh leta hoon poori).......

मसूरी (देहरादून)। शरदोत्सव-2007 का आगाज स्वर सम्राट नरेंद्र सिंह नेगी की जादुई आवाज से हुआ। पहली संध्या में नेगी के गीतों पर पहाड़ों की रानी मसूरी झूम उठी। देर रात तक श्रोताओं ने नेगी के गीतों का लुत्फ उठाया। सुरमा सरैला व भलु लगदू भनुली युगल गीताें पर दर्शक खूब झूमे।

शुक्रवार की रात को शरदोत्सव की पहली संध्या का उद्घाटन विधायक जोत सिंह गुनसोला व पालिकाध्यक्ष मनमोहन सिंह मल्ल ने दीप प्रज्ज्वलित कर किया। स्वर सम्राट नरेंद्र सिंह नेगी जैसे ही मंच पर पहुंचे, पंडाल के चारों ओर से दर्शकों ने उनका तालियों की गड़गड़ाहट से स्वागत किया। नेगी ने गीत संध्या की शुरुआत नंदादेवी राजजात की आकर्षक झांकी व देवी स्तुति से की। इसके बाद नेगी ने नये व पुराने गीतों से देर रात तक समा बांध कर रखा। एक के बाद एक दमदार प्रस्तुतियों से रात तक पंडाल में बैठे दर्शक झूमते रहे। नेगी ने चुनाव के दौरान मतदाताओं को रिझाने व हथकंडे अपनाये जाने को गीत के माध्यम से कुछ इस तरह बयां किया। हाथ न व्हिस्किी फुलन पिलायो रम्म, सुनाया तो दर्शक नाचने लगे। इसके बाद जै दुर्गे गाया। सुरमा सुरैला, भलु लगदू भनुली, तैरू मछोई गाड बगिगी आदि सामूहिक गीत सुनाकर दर्शकों को झूमने पर मजबूर कर दिया। मेरा जोग जाणी सिलसारी-बिलसारी व सर जुन्याली रात गाये। कार्यक्रम के दौरान जौनसारी, कुमाउंनी, गढ़वाली, थडि़या नृत्य की खूब धूम रही।
