By Raju Gusain & LP ThapaDehradun, 11 Oct: The presence of two Negis created ripples in a remote village of Dehradun district on Saturday. Actor and former India hockey goalkeeper Mir Ranjan Negi and renowned Garhwali folk singer Narender Singh Negi visited Lakhwad, around 70 kms from Dehradun, for the shooting of the musical VCD 'Mayaku Mundaru', attracting the entire village to the location. The students bunked their classes. The women gave up their household work. The men folk decided to ignore their duties for one day. Life came to a standstill in village Lakhwad on Saturday. The villagers knew about folk singer Narender Singh Negi coming for the shoot, but the news about the presence of Mir Ranjan spread like wild fire. The youths were keen on clicking photographs of Mir Ranjan with their mobile phones. Old and young! The villagers occupied all the available spaces. Small children were sitting on the floor in the front row. All grown ups were in standing position and were watching the proceedings. Women and girls were watching the shooting from the verandahs and balconies of nearby houses. There was great excitement in the air. One boy to another, "He is 'Chak De India' film's coach." "Who! He? 'Chak De' main to Kabir Khan coach hota hai," exclaimed other. "The film is based on his real story 'Pagal’. He is Jhalak Dikhlaja walla Negiji," he concluded. The music system began to play the 'Harsu Mama' number. Mir Ranjan Negi was ready, clad in a Jaunsari dress. The atmosphere was electrifying and as Director Anil Bisht pronounced the first shot 'OK' the crowd began clapping. Mir Ranjan Negi had especially come to participate in the shooting of the VCD album 'Mayaku Mundaru’. He was accompanied by his wife Vineeta Negi. The beauty of Lakhwad mesmerised the couple. The beautifully crafted wooden houses with maize hanging all around presented a picture postcard like setting. The villagers need to be complimented for keeping their traditional houses intact. The last scene of the song was filmed at the Mahasu Devta temple. As the sun was disappearing behind the mountains, it was time to leave. The song 'Harshu Mama' continued to echo in our minds till we reached Dehradun. A great experience that would remain fresh in memories for a long time.
