Profile
In a short span of his illustrious sports career, Parimarjan Negi has won laudable laurels for the Great Nation.
India has emerged as a chess power in the world of chess in the recent past, which is not surprising, given that
Chess, known for long as Shatranj, is a game which embodies the essence and spirit of the nation itself. What is
surprising is the level of strength a eighteen year old has reached and the innumerable milestones he has crossed
enroute, at each stage, making his nation proud. Parimarjan is the second youngest ever Grand Master in the
history of the game. He is the youngest ever Indian to achieve the Grand Master Title and International Master
Title. Parimarjan made his first mark as a seven year old by the turn of the millennium and in less than a decade,
has stormed to the highest echelons to join illustrious predecessors and contemporaries. In his pursuit of
excellence, Parimarjan has added numerous youth medals in World, Asian, and Commonwealth championships.
He has now become youngest ever Asian Individual champion at the age of 19 years.
A keen learner of the best techniques in the game, he has displayed level headedness even when pitted
against top notch international players. He has been trained in the game by outstanding coaches ……, whose
expectations he has lived up to. Parimarjan has always been a sportsperson indoctrinated to the “NATION FIRST”
philosophy, and shall continue to add feathers to its cap.
