 चमोली जिले के कर्णप्रयाग में अलकनंदा तथा पिण्डर नदियों के संगम पर स्थित है _भगवती माँ उमा_ का अत्यंत प्राचीन मन्दिर ।
 
 मंदिर की स्थापना 8वीं सदी में आदि शंकराचार्य द्वारा हुई जबकि उमा देवी की मूर्ति इसके बहुत पहले ही स्थापित थी। कहा जाता है कि संक्रसेरा के एक खेत में उमा का जन्म हुआ। एक डिमरी ब्राह्मण को देवी ने स्वप्न में आकर अलकनंदा एवं पिंडर नदियों के संगम पर उनकी प्रतिमा स्थापित करने का आदे
 श दिया। डिमरियों को उमा देवी का मायके माना जाता है जबकि कापरिपट्टी के शिव मंदिर को उनकी ससुराल समझा जाता है। हर कुछ वर्षों बाद देवी 6 महीने की जोशीमठ तक गांवों के दौरे पर निकलती है। देवी जब इस क्षेत्र से गुजरती है तो प्रत्येक गांव के भक्तों द्वारा पूजा, मडान तथा जाग्गरों का आयोजन किया जाता है जहां से वह गुजरती है। जब वह अपने मंदिर लौटती है तो एक भगवती पूजा कर उन्हें मंदिर में पुनर्स्थापित कर दिया जाता है। इस मंदिर पर नवरात्री समारोह धूम-धाम से मनाया जाता है।
 
 यहां पूजित प्रतिमाओं में उमा देवी, पार्वती, गणेश, भगवान शिव तथा भगवान विष्णु शामिल हैं। वास्तव में, उमा देवी की मूर्ति का दर्शन ठीक से नहीं हो पाता क्योंकि इनकी प्रतिमा दाहिने कोने में स्थापित है जो गर्भगृह के प्रवेश द्वार के सामने नहीं पड़ता।वर्ष 1803 की बाढ़ में पुराना मंदिर ध्वस्त हो गया तथा गर्भगृह ही मौलिक है। इसके सामने का निर्माण वर्ष 1972 में किया गया।
 
 मंदिर के पुजारी, आर पी पुजारी, पुजारियों की चतुर्थ पीढ़ी के हैं जो पीढ़ियों से मंदिर के प्रभारी पुजारी रहे हैं। यहां पुजारियों के दस परिवार हैं जो रोस्टर प्रणाली के अनुसार बारी-बारी से कार्यभार संभालते हैं। ये परिवार ही सरकार की सहायता के बिना ही मंदिर की देखभाल एवं रख-रखाव करते हैं।Unlike ·  · Share · 3642130 · 14 hours ago ·

भौना देवी

भतरौंजखान  ककलासौं के जिहाड़ ग्राम पंचायत में मां भौना देवी का ऐतिहासिक मंदिर क्षेत्र के लोगों का अटूट आस्था का केंद्र है। भौना देवी यहां 250 वर्ष से पूजी जाती रही हैं। हर तीसरे साल मंदिर में पशु बलि की परंपरा रही है। इस वर्ष चैत्र महीने में बलिदान होना है लेकिन क्षेत्र के लोग अन्य मंदिरों की तरह ही यहां बलिप्रथा बंद करने के प्रयास में हैं। मान्यता है कि जिस पहाड़ी में मंदिर है उसके ठीक नीचे अथाह जल भंडार है। लोगों का कहना है जो भी मंदिर में श्रद्धाभाव से पहुंचता है मैय्या उसकी सभी मनोकामनाएं पूरी कर देती हैं।

सदियों पूर्व गढ़वाल से आई भौना देवी

क्षेत्र के लोगाें का मानना है कि मां भौना देवी सदियों पहले गढ़वाल से यहां लाकर स्थापित की गई। काफी समय तक पूजा जिहाड़ गांव के समीप होती रही लेकिन बाद में इस देवी को गांव की मनोरम चोटी पर स्थापित कर दिया गया। वर्ष 1945 तक यहां एक छोटा सा मंदिर था जिसमें देवी की मूर्ति स्थापित कर दिया। मंदिर की पूरी छत पत्थर से छाई हुई है। मंदिर में चैत्राष्टमी पर क्षेत्र का विशाल मेला लगता है।

मंदिर में शिवलिंग और काल भैरव के स्तंभ हैं मौजूद

भौना देवी मंदिर परिसर में शिव लिंग तथा काल भैरवनाथ के स्तंभ के अलावा हरज्यू की धूणी भी स्थापित है। मंदिर के पुजारी बाला दत्त बुधौड़ी ने बताया कि मंदिर में इस वर्ष चैत्राष्टमी पर पशु बलि की बारी है। क्षेत्र के लोग अब इस परंपरा को बंद करने के प्रयास में हैं। तीसरे साल बलिदान के विधान को छोड़कर भौना देवी की पूजा पूरी तरह सात्विक तरीके से होती है। मंदिर के महत्व को देखते वर्ष भर यहां श्रद्धालुओं का आना जाना लगा रहता है।

सल्ट की सभी पट्टियां नजर आती हैं

भौना देवी मंदिर क्षेत्र से सल्ट के पांचों पट्टियां तल्ला, मल्ला, विचल्ला, पल्ला तथा वल्ला पट्टी का विहंगम दृश्य के साथ ही हिमालय की लंबी श्रृंखला दिखाई देती है। यहां धार्मिक पर्यटन की भी अपार संभावनाएं हैं।

THE  LEGEND
 In the Markendeya Purana, the Kosi is described as the primal force. Do to the violent nature of the Kosi during monsoon season, legend says that Parvati, daughter of Himalayas and the wife of Shiva, after defeating the demon Durg, became known as the warrior goddess Durga who transformed into Kaushiki. In Ramayana, the river Ganges is depicted as her elder sister.On this rock where the temple stands was the place where Goddess Parvati  worshipped  and sought blessing of  being married to lord SHIVA .

The legend also   goes that this place was earlier covered with dense forests. But the people living here saw Goddess Parvati’s idols on the mountains.Seeing the sights of these idols, the commoners built Garjia Devi’s temple  here. It is believed that the temple flowed to its current place with a flood in the river Kosi from NEPAL . Bhairav when saw it floating wanted to stop it but could not do so. Bhairav then asked Goddess Parvati to stay with him at the same place. It is believed that since then Devi Garjia has been living in the same place as Upeta. In ancient times Goddess Parvati was also known by the name Upeta.


THE  FAITH

Thousands of devotees arrive during Kartik Poornima, a Hindu holy day celebrated on the fifteenth lunar day of Kartik (November – December). It is also known as the festival of lights of the gods.The Kartik Purnima festival also coincides with the Sikh festival of Guru Nanak Jayanti..  On the occasion of kartik  poornima, as a special  bath  large number of devotees take a dip in the river Kosi. In addition to this, people visit this place on the auspicious Shivraatri  in huge numbers.



THE   SIGNIFICANCE

The temple is one of the most ancient temples of India. It is believed that Devi Garjia blesses the devotees only after the completion of Baba Bhairon’s puja with the offerings of  KHICHDI before leaving the shrine ..Devotees offers coconut, vermilion, incense, lamp, red Chunnerie etc as offerings to  goddess Parvati . Mere remembrance of Devi Parvati can solve all problems. Devi Parvati is the ultimate life and energy source and devotion to her relieves a person from all tensions and problems. She is also known as Kalratri. She belongs to the Gaur community and hence is also called Mahagauri. Devi Parvati blesses all her devotees and solves all of their problems. the unmaaried , the separated or those facing family problems  offer  bell by tying  them  on the railings  and umbrella to Bhairav . After being blessed they have to revisit  the shrine  to open the knot of bell .. goddess parvati has special affection for couples .

To reach the shrine barefooted  from 1 km distance  and with fasting.. avoid visit during Monsoon when the whole temple gets submerged in the Kosi river .N avratris  is  the occasion  of complete fasting and meditation.

Jayanti Temple Dhwaj - Pithoragarh

Jayanti Temple Dhwaj can be reached after a three kilometer-long steep and tough climb from Totanaula. The presiding deity in the temple is Goddess Jayanti, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. Situated 200 ft below the main temple is a cave temple of Lord Shiva. From the main temple, one can see Panchchuli Peaks and Nanda Devi.
