Uma Devi  Mata

The Uma Devi temple is situated at the confluence of the Pindari and Alaknanda river in the town of Kranprayag. The old temple is named after Uma Devi or Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. Close to it on the Maha Mirtyunjay parvat is a shiva temple. large crowds congregate here on Shivratri . The earthquake of 1803 A.D. destroyed the entire temple, but Adi guru Shankracharya had it rebuilt.

THE YOGDHYAN BADRI BHAGWAN AND ITS TEMPLE

The Yogdhyan Badri Temple is as old as the temple of Badrinath. Pandukeshwar is 24 kms  from Joshimath , it has the Yogdhyan Badri temple one of the panch badri . The image here, in a meditative posture, is worshiped as at Badrinath.

       According to the myth, the Pandavas made over Hastinapur to Raja Parikshit and retired here. Also king Pandu, the father of Pandavas had spent his last days doing penance here before his Nirvana, and hence the name. Some famous copper plate carrying old inscriptions, providing valuable information on the history of the temple and early Katyuri Rajas have been found here. The surrounding region is Panchal Desh better known as UttarKhand. Suryakund , which is on the top of Milam glacier, is a hot water spring. Here Kunti is said to have given birth to Karna, fathered by Surya. Pandu married Kunti at Pandukeshwar near Sri Badrinath.

Bhavishya Badri JI


Literally, the Badrinath of the future, the temple of Bhavishya Badri is at Subain, about 17 Kms from Joshimath to the east toward Lata. It is beyond Tapovan, up the Dhauliganga river and involves a track of about 3 Kms. from the motor road. It has an altitude of 2744 mts. and is located within dense forest. The approach along the Dhauli river is stimulating. The name Dhauliganga means (white water) and truly it is roaring torrent almost every where upstream from Tapovan and passes through almost perpendicular cliffs on either side, several 100 mts. high and wild in the extreme.

       It is believed that on the onset of Kalyug , the ever-withering arm of the Narasingha idol at Joshimath will finally fall off and the mountains of Jay and Vijay at Patmila near Vishnuprayag will collapse making the present shrine of  Badrinath inaccessible, resulting in Badrinath’s reappearance and consequent worship at Bhavishya Badri. After Vishnu, in his incarnation as Kalki, destroys the world bringing Kalyug to an end satyug will begin again and Badrinath Dham will be reestablish at Bhavishya Badri.

Rudranath BHAGWAN

It is one of the panch Kedars. The face of Lord Shiva is worshipped at Rudranath temple in a natural rock temple as Neelkantha Mahadeva. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Neelkantha. The temple is situated amid thick forest at a height 2286 mtrs. From Gopeshwar 4 kms motorable road is available upto village Sagar from where 20 kms. trek leads to Rudranath and can be approached from Joshimath as well, by trekking about 45 kms. The temple provides magnificent view of Hathi Parvat , Nandadevi, NandaGhunti, Trishuli and many other.

       There are numbers of holy Kunds (Tanks) near Rudranath temple namely Suryakund, Chandrakund, Tarakund etc. The Baitarini, the divine river flows pass behind the temple.

Gopinath Temple (Shiva temple)
 

Gopinath temple is situated at gopeshwar which is 10 kms from Chamoli . The temple is topped by a dome and 24 doors leads to the sanctum sanctorum , which is 30 sq. feet in area. There are several broken idols around the temple which support the theory that in ancient times there were several more temples in Gopeshwar.
 
 
 
 

In the courtyard of the temple there is a trident about five metre high made of eight different metal dating back to the 12th century, bears inscriptions attributed to Anekmalla, king of Nepal who reigned in the 13th century. another inscriptions records the erection of a royal edifice by him in Saka 1113 (A.D. 1191) .

 

Four shot inscriptions of later times, in Devanagri, are cut into the metal of the shaft but only one of them is decipherable.

 

    The legend goes that the trident belonged to Shiva who threw it at Kamdeva ( The God Of Love) to kill him and it got fixed in this spot. It is believed that while brute force can not move this Trident , the slightest touch by a true devotee can cause a tremor in it. The metal of the trident does not appear to have become weathered by the elements over the century.

BHOLANAATH DEVTA.

Bholanath - Bholanath is the most popular and revered folk god of Kumaon. He is said to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. According to legend, the Chand King, Udai Chand, disinherited his elder son because of his bad habits and gave the Kingdom to his younger son. After wandering for a long time the elder son came with his pregnant wife and settled down near Almora.

Kail Bisht God

Kail Bisht - Kail Bisht is said to be a generous folk god. The temple of this flute playing God is near Binsar. The story goes that Shrikrishna Pandey was given false reports about a love affair between his wife and a brave Rajput shepherd Kallu (Kail Bisht). The matter was brought before the king, who refused to have Kail Bisht executed when he saw the impression of a trident on Kail Bisht’s forehead and that of a Kadamb flower on his feet. However, later on Kallu was murdered by deception.

Sathan : गांव, ग्लास फैक्टरी के पास, झबरेड़ा

ऐसी मान्यता है कि मुगल काल से ही यह मंदिर यहां पर विद्यमान है। 500 साल पुराने इस मंदिर का निर्माण बाबा नयन गिरी की याद में कराया गया है। लोग मानते हैं कि बाबा प्रत्येक दिन हरिद्वार में गंगा नदी में स्नान करते थे। मां गंगा ने बाबा को दर्शन और आशीर्वाद दिया था। इनके 200 साल बाद बाबा कैलाश गिरी यहां पर आए और 60 वर्ष तक तपस्या की, इनकी स्मृति में भी एक स्मारक बनाया गया है।

अलकनन्दा के किनारे श्रीनगर-बदरीनाथ मार्ग पर श्रीनगर से 14 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है। यहॉ एक चबूतरे पर छोटा शिवालय विद्यमान है और दूसरा चबूतरा पाषाण की ओट कोटर से सटा हुआ है। यहॉ पर तीन श्यामरंग की अर्धाकार मूर्तिया है। ऐसा प्रतीत हाता है कि ये तीनों पाषाण मूर्तियॉ मूल रूप से ऐसी ही रही होगी।
