===================
The Kaurava crown prince of the Mahabharata era, Duryodhana, is highly revered in the region of ‘Jaunsar-Bawar’. Beautiful, wooden-carved temples dedicated to him adorn the Jaunsar area.
A similar stature also seems to have been accorded to Karna, Duryodhana’s most favourite ally. Temples dedicated to Karna are found in Tons valley at Newar and Deora.
According to the local folklore, after travelling across the Kashmir and Kullu valleys, Duryodhana came to Hanol in the Jaunsar area. Mesmerised by its beauty, he appealed to the then reigning deity of the area, Lord Mahasu, to grant him a piece of land in the lap of mighty Himalayas.
Lord Mahasu is said to have bestowed the region of Jaunsar as a boon upon Duryodhana – on the condition that he would take care of the inhabitants.
