BUDA KEDAR TEMPLE

This temple is situated at the confluence of the Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga rivers, at a motorable distance of 59 kms. from Tehri. It is believed that Duyodhan offered tarpana here.

According to legends, it is at this temple that the Pandavas encountered Rishi Balkhily at Bhrigu Parvat when they were on the lookout for Shiva after the Kurukshetra battle. The Rishi directed them to the site of the confluence to meet an old manmeditating there. But when the Pandava got there, the old man vanished and instead, a shivling appeared there. Rishi Balkhily instructed the Pandavas to embrace the Shivling in order to free themselves from their sins. Their impressions are stamped on this Shivling – the biggest Shivling in northen India

CHANDRABADANI

The Chandrabadni a mountain (2,277 m. above sea-level) , lying in Lat. 30* 18’ N. and Long. 78* 37’ E.,on the border of tahsil Devaprayag and Pratapnagar is well known for the temple of Chandrabadni Devi which lies at the top of the mountain about 10 km. north of Kandi Khal ( a place on the Devaprayag-Kirti Nagar metalled road) , 22 km. from Devaprayag and 109 km. from Narendra Nagar. It is said that when sati, the wife of siva, gave up her life in the yajna started by her father and siva was carrying her body to Kailash, her torso fell here. There are some old statues and lots of iron trishuls (tridents) outside the temple. It comands a beautiful view of the Sirkanda, Kedarnath and Badrinath peaks. The temple here is very small and contains a Shri-yantra carved out on a flat stone instead of any idol. Traditionally, a cloth canopy is tied to the ceiling over this Shri-yantra once a year and the Brahmana priest doing it has to do it blind-folded

Namaskar,
Mehta ji is doing yeoman's service and we should applaud his efforts.

I am writing a bit off-track.  This should not be written under this headline but I am unable to stop myself from doing this.  पहले ही क्षमा-याचना कर लेता हूँ.

We people tend to get influenced a lot by outsiders.  Instead of sticking to our roots, we dither and adopt their ways and means and most importantly, their language.  Otherwise, how could ग्वेल देवता become गोलू devataa and गर्जिया देवी become गिरिजा देवी.

I appeal my countryfolks to resist this trend and maintain our own identity by not adopting others blindfoldly.
Namaskar

Doonagiri Temple

Doonagiri Temple: 15 kilometres from Dwarahat is the famous temple of Doonagiri. Legend has it that when Hanuman was carrying the rock laden with 'Sanjiwani buti' to rescue Laxman injured in the batte of Ramayana, a piece of it fell here. This incident gave this place its name 'Doonagiri' ('giri' meaning fell). This temple was built in honour of goddess Vaishnavi. It is believed that the bronze plate inside the temple dates back to 1181 A.D. Standing majestically on a hill top, the temple attracts a large number of pilgrims every year.

Kukuchina

Kukuchina: When the Pandavas were running from place to place hiding their true identity during the 1-year 'Agyatavas' period, the Kauravas were chasing them around in the hills of this region. It is said that Kukuchina is the last point till which the Kauravas came, after which they returned. Hence, this placed was named 'Kauravchina' which in time, came to be called 'Kukuchina'. 5 kilometres from here is the Pandukholi. The Taragtal, believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas is also a mere 3 kilometres away. Both these places are trek routes reachable only by foot.
