HARIDWAR, 11 May: The Janmotsav of the River Ganga, also known as Ganga Saptami, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the pilgrimage city. Devotees conducted worship on the banks of the Ganga and a Shobha Yatra was taken out through the city. Priests also conducted special Puja on the occasion. According to Hindu beliefs, the Ganga originated on Shukl Paksh of Baisakh. On this day, lakhs of pilgrims from all parts of India bathe in the river. Special Puja was also held at the Makar Vahini Ma Ganga Mandir at Birla Ghat. Adequate policem force had been requisitioned on this occasion.
