सीएम पर ओलंपिक क्वालीफाई धावक की उपेक्षा का आरोप

गैरसैंण (चमोली)। बीजिंग ओलंपिक के लिए क्वालीफाई करने वाले धावक सुरेंद्र सिंह भंडारी के पिता ने मुख्यमंत्री भुवन चंद्र खंडूड़ी पर वादाखिलाफी का आरोप लगाया है।

ओलंपिक ट्रायल के दस हजार मीटर दौड़ में अपने ही रिकार्ड को तोड़कर सुरेन्द्र सिंह भंडारी ने बीजिंग ओलंपिक के लिए क्वालीफाई किया है। गैरसैंण तहसील के घंडियाल गांव के इस धावक ने इन चार वर्षो में दर्जनभर स्वर्ण सहित कई अन्य पदक जीतकर देश का गौरव बढ़ाया है। सेना में सेवारत सुरेन्द्र को कोलंबो, जर्काता, दोहा, मकाऊ, स्पेन सहित कई देशों में आयोजित प्रतिस्पर्धाओं में अब्बल प्रदर्शन के लिए सेना से निरंत्तर सहयोग प्राप्त होता रहा है। लेकिन इस उदीयमान धावक के पिता मान सिंह के अनुसार सूबे की सरकारों से उन्हें उपेक्षा के सिवा कुछ भी हासिल नही हुआ। उन्होंने बताया कि गत लोकसभा चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान गैरसैंण में मुख्यमंत्री बीसी खंडूड़ी द्वारा सुरेन्द्र को खेल सेवाओं के लिए सम्मानित करने की बात कही थी, लेकिन इस पर अभी तक अमल नहीं किया गया।

हमें पूरा विश्वास है कि सुरेन्द्र सिंह जी इस ओलम्पिक में स्वर्ण पदक जरुर जीतकर लायेंगे।

India's Surendra Singh rewrote history as he improved his one-month-old national record in the men's 10000 m run with a new astonishing timing of 28:02.79s to finish fourth in the Spanish Olympic trials 'Campeonato De Espana de 10000' held here. Surendra was determined to achieve the qualification for Beijing Olympics and planned his race with 2min 49sec pace per kilometre yesterday.

But it was the pace for the second kilometre (2:43) which put him in the fast lane along with Spanish runners and he kept running consistently below 2 min 50 sec per kilometre before speeding up the last kilometre in 2 min 38 seconds to clock 28:02.79s.

''I couldn't believe I have made it'' said an elated Surendra after the race. He further added, ''It's been two years since I was preparing for the Olympics and finally all my hard work has paid today.'' Surendra, who joined Garhwal Rifles regiment in 1999, first represented Army in the National cross country held in Simla (2003) which earned him his maiden international cap for India. His brilliant run in the Asian Cross Country held in Pune in 2004 brought him in the notice of Army Sports Institute where he trained for the next one year before joining India's middle and long distance coach Dr Nikolai Sneasrav's army in 2006 at Bangalore.

India's Olympic contingent just got larger with Surendra Singh improving his one month old national record in the men's 10000m run en route to a fourth place finish in the Spanish Olympic trials 'Campeonato De Espana de 10000' at Vigo, Spain.

According to information received here, Surendra achieved the 'B' qualification mark for Beijing Olympic Games after clocking 28:02.89s.

"I couldn't believe I have made it," an elated Surendra said after the race.

"It has been two years ... I was preparing for Olympics and finally all my hard work has paid off today," said the Indian.

Determined to make the cut for Beijing, Surendra planned his race with 2min 49s pace per kilometre but it was pace for the second kilometre (2:43), which put him in the fast lane along with Spanish runners, and he kept running consistently below 2min 50s per kilometre before speeding up the last kilometre in 2min 38s.

Surendra will become the first athlete from the Garhwal Rifle's 122-year-old history to participate in the Olympics.

Spaniard Juan Carlos De La Ossa Yunta (27:28.31s) won the event, ahead of compatriots Carles Castillejo Salvador (27:39.79s) and Ayad Lamdassem El Mouhcin (27:45.58s).
