BIRLA INSTITUTE OF APPLIED SCIENCES
Popularly known as BIAS,is a sister concern of BIT,Mesra ,Ranchi. This institute has a full 4-year [B.tech] course in Electronics & Communication and Computer Sciences & a 3-yr MCA affiliated to Uttarakhand Technical University (Earlier it was affiliated to Kumaon University). Birla Institute Of Applied Sciences(BIAS) is located in the most picturesque surroundings of the lake town of Bhimtal , in the Nainital district of Uttaranchal. The campus is spread over an area of about 10 hectares of prime land amongst the Kumaun hills, thus providing a cool climate and lush green environmental surroundings, ideally conducive for academic pursuit.BIAS Bhimtal is a fully residential institute. The Institute has synergistic networking with Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi , along with its extension centers at Noida, Allahabad, Jaipur, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah and Bahrain as well as with other prestigious organizations.It finds its origins in the educational and scientific research endowments of the G. P. Birla Group of Industries
INFRASTRUCTURE
The institute campus consists of a Central Academic Block, laboratory blocks, workshops, computer centers and staff quarters besides separate hostels for boys and girls. The institute is fully residential and includes the mess, common room & reading room along with facilities for indoor/outdoor games. Also, the institute is self-contained with its own security arrangements, Co-operative store , Cafeteria and a PCO to take care of the sundry needs of the residents.
The Central Academic Block consists of lecture halls, computer labs, a well-equipped library, a Dspace Digital Library and an IEEE Digital Library access. It also houses the conference room and various offices. Two V-SAT connections (HCL Comnet and HUGHES) provide internet connectivity to the computer labs 24x7. An adequate standby power supply system ensures that power requirements are fulfilled even during power outages.

CURRENT PLACEMENTS:
The placement cell of the institute, consists of faculty members as well as students. Many esteemed firms frequently visit the institute to hire students by conducting examinations and interviews in the campus as their selection procedure.
One student Mr. Devesh Bhaisora of 2007 Batch got selected in Halliburton at a package of 13 lacs per annum during his training period. His initial training will be at Texas USA.
The institute also makes necessary arrangements for the off-campus placements in companies visiting the sister concerns of the institute. Few companies where our current students got their placements are -
HCL Technologies , Birla Soft , CMC Ltd. , Momentum Pvt Ltd. , Aspire , Allied Electro Magnetic , Torry Harris, Accenture, NIIT Technologies, Tech Mahindra, Infogain and Impetus.
12 BE Students got selected in Infosys at one go in Infosys from the batch which will pass out in 2008.
04 BE Students got selected in Accenture from the batch which will pass out in 2008. Six Students are placed in Accenture , Aricent and Fiserv from the batch which will pass out in 2008.
ALUMNI:
The institute has a huge support base of alumni , of which about 50% are placed abroad . The pass out students of the institute are currently working at prestigious positions in reputed companies including various MNCs namely
