मैंने एक बार BBC में सुना था कि एक बार इस पेड़ मे चड़ने के लिए एक प्रतियोगिता हुयी शर्त यह थी कि जो इस पेड़ के टॉप पर पहुच पायेगा उसे गाव की आदि जमीन दे दी जायेगी !

बहुत लोगो ने इसके लिए प्रयास किया था लेकिन कोई सफल नहीं हुवा.. एक महिला जो करीब - २ इस पेड़ के टॉप पर पहुच गयी थी लेकिन टहनी को पकड़ कर उसने जब नीचे देखा तो वह संतुलन खो बैठी और नीचे गिर कर मर गयी !

उत्तराखंड में है एशिया के सबसे मोटे देवदार के दो वृक्ष

एशिया में मोटाई में दुसरे नंबर के देवदार के वृक्ष उत्तराखंड राज्य के चकराता बन विभाग के क्नासार रेंज में है !

देवदार के इस महावृक्ष की मोटाई (गोलाई) ८.२५ और ऊँचाई २८ मीटर है! इस वृक्ष के आयु ४०० वर्ष से अधिक की बताई जाती है ! १९९४ में केन्द्रीय बन एव पर्यावरण मंत्रालय द्वारा इस महावृक्ष के रूप में पुरुसकरति  किया है!

Asia's largest dam,TEHRI DAAM UTTARAKHAND

Despite several hiccups, authorities have completed the construction of Asia's highest dam - Tehri - but suspense grew over the
commissioning of its first phase.

Built at a cost of more than Rs 6,000 crore on the Bhagirathi river in Tehri district of Uttaranchal, the dam authorities are now mulling over the question of the commission of the first phase (1,000 MW) of the controversial 2,400 MW project, which depends on the closure of T-2 tunnel, which is mandatory to fill the reservoir.

The cost of the dam is being shared by 75:25 (equity proportion) by the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government.

Langvir Nritya - Celebratedin Tehari Garwal

The Langvir Nritya is a famous dance form of the state of Uttarakhand. It is mainly performed in the Tehri Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

This is a form of acrobatic dance and is mainly performed by only men. In this type of dance, a long bamboo pole is fixed at one place and the dancer climbs to the top of the pole and then balances himself on his stomach on top.

The bands of musicians play under the pole; they mainly play Dhol and Damana. This form of dance is very popular in the Tehri Garhwal region of the state.
