United News of India

Hardwar, Jan 5:

Patanjali Food and Herbal Park, stated to be the biggest such food unit in the world, was inaugurated here today by Mr Subodh Kant Sahay, Union Minister for Food Processing Industry.
The 500-crore park, set up by yoga guru Swami Ramdev, about 20 kms from here, will provide direct employment to 7000 people.
Swami Ramdev said his main objective was to provide remunerative prices to the farmers for their produce of cereals, pulses and vegetables. It was a step from 'yog kranti to krishi kranti' with an objective of prosperity for the farmers in particular and the people in general.
Swami Ramdev said 150 tonnes of Arogya atta, juices and other processed items such as cosmetics would be produced by using 500 tonnes of raw material.
Speaking on the occasion the Union Minister said in other countries 80 to 90 per cent aggricultural products were processed, while in India it was 10 per cent only. If the produce of the farmers is processed, there is a value addition to it and which can lead to prosperity in the country.
Food processing industry has great potential. During recent years there has been 14 per cent growth in this industry in the country, when other sectors have registered only seven per cent growth rate, Mr Sahay said.
There is a great need to commercialise aggriculture and make it market friendly. He said his ministry had made a plan to set up one food park in every state of the country. The experiment of the mega food park of Swami Ramdev will serve as a model and will be replicated in other states as well.
The inaugural function was presided by Dr Ramesh Pokhrial 'Nishank', Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Prof Prem Prakash Dhumal, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, who invited Swami Ramdev to set up the food parks in their states too.

Hardwar: Despite being considered the world's second largest producer of food grains, the country suffers from paucity of proper storage facilities, Union Minister for Food Processing Subodh Kant Sahay has said.

Making the point while inaugurating noted Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's food park here today, Sahay described it as the world's biggest facility of its kind.

The food park, built under the aegis of Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Yog Peeth, is a unique achievement for the entire country as it will help fight India's lack of proper storage facilities for food grains.

"This is the world's biggest food park and no multi-national company has the ability to build a facility of this size. This could be possible only because of Baba Ramdev's efforts," the Union Minister said.

The Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were also present on the occasion where Ramdev announced that his next food park will be set up in Himachal Pradesh.

Speaking on the occasion Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank described Baba Ramdev as the pride of his state while Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who also addressed the gathering, invited the Yoga Guru to visit his state for the benefit of the people there.

Haridwar: The Patanjali Food and Herbal Park, being set up here by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, will ameliorate farmers' economic situation and create over 20,000 jobs in Uttarakhand, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subhodh Kant Sahai today said.

“With the launch of a mega food park at Haridwar, farmers in the state will become financially independent as their produce will be sourced for processing. Also, the park will generate as many as 20,000 jobs in the initial phase,” Sahai said, laying the foundation stone for the mega food park.

The Patanjali Food and Herbal Park, expected to commence operation in August this year, is being developed by a company promoted Baba Ramadev. The park is expected to attract investments to the tune of Rs 500 crore.

The minister said that currently fewer than 2.5 per cent of food commodities are processed in the country as against 80 per cent in developed countries.

To link farmers directly to the market and processing units, Sahai urged the state government to amend the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act and levy zero per cent VAT on processed food products.

“It is high time that state government amended the APMC Act and levied minimum VAT on processed products, so that farmers got better returns,” he said.
