                    It is a fact that in Garhwal and Kumaun regions, there are exclusive folk-rites, folk rituals or folk-prose-song (Mantra) for healing various diseases. For example following mantra or folk rites is for healing stomach ache due to knots or displacement in intestines. Usually, it is said that when one intestine is knotted with other intestine, the person feels pain. It is the personal observation of this author that there used to be one or two specialist women healers in each Garhwali village who used to set the displaced intestines. The female healer would visit the ailing person early in the morning and would massage the belly of the ailing person. The ailing person would be empty stomach before going for healing.
               When the local healer fails to heal the stomach ache or fails to set the displaced intestine, there was call for Mantrik who used to be a Mantra chanting person and healer too (stomach massage expert).Such Mantrik used to chant Mantras or folk rites and used to do stomach massage too.

वद दो भैरों भाई, चार कोश अगाडी, चार को पिछाड़ी
गोबंद दो भैरों भाई , काली भाई
काली काम मेरा बैरी की नली बन्दा ,
असत अन्गुला नाभि का बंधा ,
रघ भैरो भाई काली का भाई मेरा बैरी को खवणी बध,
आठ अंगुली निलाठ बेध
बारा अगुली मंदर वद नकशीर वद,
मेरो भाई , काली को जै , तेरी दुवाई
मेरा बैरी की आँख बध ,
चार कोश जग कि अगाडी पष्टपिंदडा वंदा
मेरा बैरी का घीट नसाई दे
घर चढ़ाई दे , खल बताई दे,
भैरो भाई , तेरी दुवाई , जम्बू बोगसा तेरी दुवाई

फोर मंत्र इश्वरो वाचा:
        The above mantra talks about Kali goddess and her brother Bhairo. The mantra also indicates the Bogsa tantric process a popular tantric process in plains of Garhwal-Tarai Bhabhar.   
The above prose-song, a Mantra (folk Rite) for healing Stomach Ache due to knots in intestine from Garhwal and Kumaun is not in Garhwali or Kumauni language. However, this Mantra (folk Rite) for healing Stomach Ache due to knots in intestine is practiced in both the regions.

               Swarup Dhoundiyal was famous Hindi fiction writer, a great regional magazine editor and a famous Garhwali playwright.
       Swarup Dhoundiyal wrote two Garhwali dramas ‘Adalat’ and ‘Mangtu Baulya’ influenced by a Garhwali drama ’Ardh Grameshwar’ written by Rajendra Dhashmana.  Both Garhwali dramas ‘Adalat’ and ‘Mangtu Baulya’ deal with the subject of problems and social behaviors in rural hills of Garhwal.
                The drama story of ‘Mangtu Baulya’ (1993) by Swarup Dhoundiyal centers on a mad man ‘Mangtu Baulya’. Mangtu opens his secret through flashback in each scene for the causes of his madness. 
             The drama is thought provoking drama and directly supports the migration as there are no opportunities in rural villages of hills of Garhwal.
                   The Garhwali drama ‘Mangtu Baulya’ is capable in touching the subject of unemployment in rural areas; concentration of employment in urban areas; low productivity in rural areas; slow pace or no pace of industrial development in rural areas; very low quality in rural education and no hope for improvement in rural areas; aim of education only for getting jobs in cities.
          The style of drama is mixture of Parsi theatre and realistic dramas. When Mangtu talks with himself there is Parsi theatre loudness and in other scenes, Dhoundiyal uses realistic dialogues. The scenes are taken from day-to-day life of Garhwali village before seventies.
                     The drama provokes and tries to find out causes of rural to urban migration.
              The Garhwali Drama ‘Mangtu Baulya’ (1993) by Swarup Dhoundiyal is one of the dramas which created stir in Garhwali drama world for its newness, for dealing with burning and contemporary issues, for bringing realism in Garhwali drama.

Jai Badri Narayan: A Religious Garhwali Drama about the Story of Lord Badri Narayan

                     Lalit Keshwan wrote the religious or spiritual Garhwali drama Jai Badri Narayan’ just after the staging of his first chivalry based Garhwali drama ‘Hari Hindwan’.  Lalit Keshwan published religious or spiritual Garhwali drama ‘Jai Badri Narayan’ in 2011.
                  The one act religious or spiritual Garhwali Drama ‘Jai Badri Narayan’ is about the story of Lord Badri Narayan.  There was a demon Durdam who wanted to be immortal forever. Durdam worshipped lord Sun and gets 1000 shield. Durdam started harassing deities, goddesses, sages and saints. Lord Vishnu comes to rescue the subject and destroys the 1000 shields of Durdam. Lord Vishnu rests in Badri region and the place is now called Badri Narayan.
             Lalit Keshwan used eleven Jagars for narrating and accelerating the story. Since, the spiritual and religious drama ‘Jai Badri Narayan’ is about Lord Badri Narayan, the play is mixture of Parsi theatre style and modern style. Jagars create atmosphere of Garhwali folk feature in the religious and spiritual drama ‘Jai Badri Narayan’.
  The prose dialogues are common dialogues of mythology.   Jagars are capable of creating religious and religious atmosphere in the drama. 
  The drama is useful for knowing the story of Badri Narayan.

               Panchtantra by Vishnu Sharma the best book for Children for understanding Management

 

        The folk stories are essential ingredients for children to understand management. Panchtantra a classic Sanskrit book created by Pundit Vishnu Sharma. Panchtantra was compiled in 3rd B.C.E. There are fables stories in Panchtantra.  It is said that teachers failed to teach the price. Then the king called Pundit Vishnu Sharma who was more than eighty years old knowledgeable guru and the king put responsibility to Vishnu Sharma for teaching the prince. Pundit Vishnu Sharma wove the animal’s stories in such a fashion that each story had connection with successive story. This way the prince became interested in coming story. Each story has a distinct moral. The stories are having not only moral but each story teaches the political and social etiquette too.

          There are five parts of Panchtantra- Mitra-bhed, Mitra-samprapti, Kakolukiyam, Labdhapranasam, and Aparikhsitakarakam.

                Later on the stories of Panchatntra went to Persian region and the Persians created regional based fables as Shahnama or 1000 stories. From Persia the trend and style reached to Greek, Egypt and Roman regions.

3-Raising consciousness and high awareness at all levels - individual, local, regional, national, international levels for the importance of intangible heritage and ensuring mutual cooperation thereof.

                     Defining the ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’   
The Convention for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 2003 defined the ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ as
The ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ means the practices representations, expressions, knowledge, skills, as well as instruments, objects, artifacts and cultural spaces associated therewith those communities, groups, and in some cases, individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage. This intangible cultural heritage   transmitted from generation to generation, is constantly recreated by communities and groups in response to their environment, their interaction with nature and their history, and provides the sense of identity and continuity, thus promoting respect for cultural diversity and human creativity. 
     From Indian point of view, UNESCO lists ‘kutiyattam ’ Sanskrit theatre, Vedic chanting, Ram leela, Ramman of Garhwal Himalayas-a ritual theatre; Mudiyett a ritual theater of Kerala, Kalbeliya –folk song-dance of Rajasthan and Chhau dance of east India.

Pooja Mantra: A Spiritual Folk Rite for initiating worshipping   rituals practiced in Garhwal and Kumaun
  The following Mantra is intangible heritage of Garhwal and Kumaun and is practiced for initiation of a Tantric or Mantrik performance. The mantra remembers or requests the blessing from various deities and goddesses including the Guru.

नीचे धरती क आदेस, माता पिता को आदेश, गुरु देवता को आदेश, दिन पड़े सूरज देवता को आदेश,

सोलह हजार गोप राणियों को आदेश, आठ हजार राणियों को आदेश, अंजनी पुत्र वीर हनुमंत को आदेश,

              Writing and staging mythological dramas is very common in each community. The old age civilization used to stage mythological dramas through various means.  Nagraj Holeyannavar states that myth is fictitious belief of the people in a popular manner.
             ‘Bhashmasur’ (2011) by Lalit Keshwan is a mythological one act drama in Garhwali. The story of Bhashmasur is very popular in India.  Bhashmasur is a Rakshas king. Bhshmasur wants to be immortal. Bhashmasur worships Lord Shiva and asks the blessing that when he (Bhashmasur) puts his hand on other’s head the person will die because of burning. Lord Shiva fulfills the desire of his devotee Bhashmasur and blessed Bhashmasur for this power of burning others.
          Bhshmasur wants to try his power on lord Shiva. Lord Shiva runs away from Bhashmasur. Lord Vishnu comes to rescue Lord Shiva. Bhashmasur puts his hands on his own head and burnt away.
          Lalit Keshwan uses dialogues effectively and the mythological drama ‘Bhashmasur’ (2011) will attract the audience as they have knowledge of Bhashmasur.

बेतरतीब अर सब जगा गंज मंज छौ  अर वैन  कस्बौ मूसो बड़ी आदिर खातिर कार. कस्बौ मूसो तै गांवक मूसो रौण खाण (जौ आदि)  पसंद नि आई.
 
कस्बौ मूसन गांवक मूसौ  कुणि बोल," इन कन ! यार तू इन उज्जड अर उजाड़  जगा मा किलै रौंदी ? क्या तू त मिंडकौ  जन  दुंळ मा रौंदी.पाख पख्यड़ मा रौण बि

क्वी रौण ह्वाई. या बि क्वी जिन्दगी च चल म्यार दगड शहर चल. उखाकी जिन्दगी मजेदार च "
 
 गांवक मूस शहरौ मूसो बुलण मा ऐ गे.   अर शहर जाणो तैयार ह्व़े गे

                ऊं दुयूंन अपणि जातरा रत्या होंदी शुरू कार अर अदा रात मा शहर का मूसौ क्वाटर  मा पौन्छी  गेन . शहरौ मूसौ बड़ो झल्सादार घौर छौ.

कुर्सी , मेज, झालर, पर्दा, बढिया झुल्ला ,   सौब कुछ भव्य छौ.

             अब शहरौ मूसो बारी आदिर खातिर करणै छे ,शहर का मूसौ  न गांवक मूसु कि बडी आदिर खातिर कार. बढिया खाणक मेज मा बढिया थाळी, कटोर्युं मा दे.
 
गांवक मूस अपण बदल्यूं भाग पर पुळेण बिस्याई कि अब त शहर मा  जिन्दगी भलि राली. शहर मा बड़ा बड़ा ठाट राला. बस गांवक मूस खुश छौ कि अब त वैका

भाग जगी गेन.  वो अग्वाड़ी क मजेदार जिन्दगी क बारा मा सोचिक खुश होणु इ छौ कि भैर बिटेन धडाम से द्वार उघाडे गेन. ड्यारो मालिक  को दगड्या

देर रातौ पार्टी करणो मालिको दगड ऐन.अर यूँ लोगूँ डौरन द्वी मूस लुकणो भाजिन. जै तै जो बि कुण्या मील   वो उख लुकी गे. भौत   रात  तलक कमरा मा

पार्टी करण वाळु धमड्याट घमघ्याट मच्युं रै। गांवक मूस बेचैन होंद गे. फिर जब पार्टीबाजुं पार्टी ख़तम ह्वाई अर शान्ति क उम्मेद बंध त मालिकौ

 कुकुर भुकण  बिसे गेन.कुकरूं भुकण से वातवरण मा डौर, दैसत फ़ैली गे.

जब ब्यणस्यरक  से थ्वडा पैल कुकरूं भुकण बन्द ह्व़े अर जरा शान्ति दिख्याई त गांवक मूस लुकणो जगा से भैर आई अर वैन शहरो मूसौ ब्वाल,' भया त्यार शहर त्वेकूण मुबारक . पण

               The mother of all desires by a migrated Garhwali is to buy land for house in plains. There are people busy in deceiving others in the name of land sales.  There is spree for land buying in Dehradun and nearby districts as Saharanpur. Manmohan Sharma comes to know that there is five Beegha land with mango gardens available for sale. Manmohan Sharma and his maternal uncle make agree other three relatives to buy the favorable land for housing in Saharanpur. All five relatives of Manmohan pay fifty percent advance to land owner after scrutinizing the papers. Manmohan gets brain hemorrhage when he comes to know the reality.
     The drama story is very simple. There are eight characters in the drama about land swindler and dialogues are simple as per their characters. The drama ‘Khel Khatam Paisa Hajam’ (2011) By Lalit Keshwan about land swindler is an average drama.
