Dayara Bugyal, a district located at Uttarkshi, has something very special to share with everyone. The golden opportunity to play Holi after spring, well here you will not need any colored power. But here, you desperately need Butter, Milk and “Chaach” (Butter milk) for playing this holi.
This unique butter festival is known as “Anduri”, which is held in the month of August. This festival is associated with the villagers moving to higher altitudes for pasture. It is celebrated to express the gratitude to mother earth, for giving a safe and comfortable stay on the bugyal and also for the hope of getting more fodder the next time.
Uttarkashi, a place which is said to be a paradise on earth and the land of God, embraces major pious destinations and festivals. This butter festival is not known to everyone, although it is the most pious way to express our gratitude to mother land.
This festival is said to be the most memorable event for the tourist. The mesmerizing experience of playing holi with butter at an altitude of 3048 mts and enjoying the song which echoed through the lush green surroundings is beyond explanations. It is also celebrated to mark the occasion of Krishna’s lifting of
Govardhan Parbat to crush the ego of Indra.
Another attraction of this festival is an amazing combination of the traditional group dance and singing of classical based songs. The traditional “
Raso” group dance by villagers is said to be another highlight of this festival. Its uniqueness also lies in its splendid combination of various classical
ragas like Kalyan, Yaman and Shyamkalyan etc.
