गाँधी सरोवर

चोरबाड़ी ताल मंदाकिनी नदी का स्रोत है। वर्ष 1948 में राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी की राख को यहीं विसर्जित किया गया था जिसके बाद इसका नाम गांधी सरोवर हो गया। यह केदारनाथ से लगातार चढ़ाई पर है पर हरी घास के मैदानों तथा टीलों से होकर दिनभर के सफर का आनंददायक विकल्प भी देता है।

केदारनाथ के निकट ही गाँधी सरोवर व वासुकी ताल हैं। केदारनाथ पहुँचने के लिए, रुद्रप्रयाग से गुप्तकाशी होकर, 20 किमी. आगे गौरी कुंड तक, मोटर मार्ग से और 14 किमी. की यात्रा, मध्यम व तीव्र ढाल से होकर गुज़रने वाले, पैदल मार्ग द्वारा करनी पड़ती है

Gandhi Sarovar is a small glacial lake near Kedarnath in the state of Uttaranchal, India at approx 3900 m. It is at a distance of 3.5 km from Kedarnath.
It is believed that Yudhishthir, the eldest of the Pandavas have departed to heaven from Gandhi Sarovar. River Mandakini, a major tributary of The Ganges originates from here.

Previously this was know as " CHORABARITAL" ( CHORA = hideden, BARI= water, TAL= lake) because due to continuous self reconstruction of the glacier, its water was often not visible. After the death of Mahatma Gandhi, his ashes were immersed in the lake. Since then it is renamed as Gandhi Sarovar.

Gandhi Sarovar is around four km relatively easy trek from Kedarnath. Very few people goes to this place although it is a very scenic place. Mythologically the other side of the lake supposed to be the Heaven. Yudhisthir, the great Pandava of Mahabharat fame went to heaven from this rout
