Dr Hafiz receives Inventor of the Year Award
Dehradun, 18 Nov: Dr Anil Hafiz of Agro-Environment Laboratory, Rudrapur, was conferred the ‘Inventor of the Year 2007’ Award by the Uttarakhand Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) on the concluding day of the Second Regional Science Congress held at the Administrative Training Academy, Nainital.
He was handed over the Award by Dr Somnath Ghosh, Chairman, National Research Development Corporation, New Delhi. Hafiz was awarded the prize for his effective, permanent and eco-friendly Paddy Pest Management. His Pest Management would help farmers avoid using pesticides and also increase their production per hectare, produce quality crops, and also help in preservation of the environment. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary SK Das awarded the Youth Scientist Award-2007 to the budding researchers and scientists. The Award included a Memento and certificate.

Biotechnology: Dr Sandip Arora (Pantnagar University), Tripti Negi (WII), Namrata (SBS Institute). Botany: Dr Manju Sundriyal (GB Pant), Monica Vats (DAV, Dehradun), Shubhra Bhandari (FRI).
Chemistry: CS Chinauriya (Kumaon University), Dr KP Singh (Pantvarsity), Dr T Rashmi (FRI). Geology: AK Naithani (Garhwal University), Rakesh Dumka (Kumaon University), Dr Manju Pandey (Kumaon University).
Environmental Science: VK Sethi (Gurukul Kangdi), Dr Ira Tiwari (Kumaon Varsity), Dr LS Lodhiyal (Kumaon Varsity).
Health Science: Ajay Semalti (HNBG U), Rekha Bisht (SGRR), Runjhun (SBSI). Physics: Gunjan Purohit (HNBGU), MS Mehta (Kumaon Varsity), Ravindra Kumar (Pantvarsity).
Zoology: Dr DP Uniyal (UCOST), Dr Chinmaya Joshi (Dwarahat Government College), Dr N Pimola Devi (DAV, Dehradun).
Engineering: Dr. SK Panigrahi (IIT, Roorkee), Dr S Chankrawarti (CBRI,Roorkee).
Maths/Statistics/Computer Science: Rajesh Joshi (ICFAI), Dr JS Rautela (Kumaon Varsity).
Home Science: Manisha Gehlot (Pantvarsity), Ashiya (Pantvarsity). Director of the Council Dr Rajendra Dobhal disclosed that it would provide one month’s expenditure to awardees in any institute across the country.
Overall expenditure of their travel and training would be borne by the Council. He said that it would be the Council’s endeavour to provide Rs 8,000 and Rs 13,500 to all Young Scientists award recipients, temporary staff and research students for the coming 5 years.
