u cant blame every one and if u'll go through all location u'll find the condition of hindi language is same..

if some people dont like to reveal that they are from uttarakhand u cant force them.

Hi All,

This is true that people of uttrakhand never talks in their local language when they meet the people of their own states. I don't know the exact reason but it can be due to somehow inferiority complex that they have developed as being ignored by the peoples living in plains. We people have a great culture which all should be proud of. This is the time when each and every person of uttrakhand should prove himself. We have a very rich heritage. We belong from the land of God "Dev Bhumi".  Gangotri, Yamnotri, badrinath, kedarnath and the list goes on and on...... Great peoples like Chandra singh garhwali, H N Bahuguna, Gen BC Joshi, Maj Somnath Sharma were from uttrakhand. Even Mahatma Gandhi once said that if he had peoples like Chandra singh garhwali  he could have drived britishers out of the country long before.

We are blessed by the nature and the god. Yes it is true that we are lacking behined in some fields. But this can not limit us. We need to overcome all the obstacales that we are facing. I think all the people of uttrakhand who are living outside the state should contribute something for the betterment of the state. Together we can change ourself, together we can change our society and state.

We must be proud of being uttrakhandis and must use our local language so that the other can feel our power and unity.

Jai uttrakhand

Dear All,

I fully support to speak my own regional language whether it is Kumaoni or Garhwali.  Being a Kumaoni, I always prefer to speak in Kumaoni with my Kumaoni friends, relatives at my home too.  I am having a 3 and half years old daughter, I also try to teach her Kumaoni, me and my wife most of the time talk with each in kumaoni because my daughter can also grab and learn kumaoni.  You won't believe, if I am outside from my home whether I am in Delhi or any other state and I found someone Kumaoni, fell proud and start speaking in Kumaoni.

Our own language (Kumaoni and Garhwali) is our own.  So, we have to motivate/teach our new generation to our own language.

I would like to say thanks to Mr. Shankar Datt Pande, Dr. B.S. Kholia, Mr. M.S. Mehta for raising their comments/views on our local language.

My sincere regards to all the members of this community.

Thanks & Best Regards,

Your observation is correct. I have been living outside Uttaranchal (somehow I do not like the name Uttarakhand- it smells of division of some part and Uttaranchal sounds literary). I try to approach people semmingly to be from Uttaranchal. however far from speaking Kumaoni/Garhwali, they tend to hide their original state and if insisted, try to avoid talking to you. In case you continue in hindi and show that both of you are now resiidents of that place, they keep on talking.

I think, this behaviour is persisting from the time when Pahadis were mostly illiterate andd were mostly working as household servants or fourth cllass employees outside. Now the situation is totally different and they are in best places in all kinds of lobs like Indians in different countries.

We must take pride in our language and culture and always talk in Pahadi(Kumaoni/Garhwali) while talking with pahadis.
