Dear All,
I fully support to speak my own regional language whether it is Kumaoni or Garhwali. Being a Kumaoni, I always prefer to speak in Kumaoni with my Kumaoni friends, relatives at my home too. I am having a 3 and half years old daughter, I also try to teach her Kumaoni, me and my wife most of the time talk with each in kumaoni because my daughter can also grab and learn kumaoni. You won't believe, if I am outside from my home whether I am in Delhi or any other state and I found someone Kumaoni, fell proud and start speaking in Kumaoni.
Our own language (Kumaoni and Garhwali) is our own. So, we have to motivate/teach our new generation to our own language.
I would like to say thanks to Mr. Shankar Datt Pande, Dr. B.S. Kholia, Mr. M.S. Mehta for raising their comments/views on our local language.
My sincere regards to all the members of this community.
Thanks & Best Regards,

Your observation is correct. I have been living outside Uttaranchal (somehow I do not like the name Uttarakhand- it smells of division of some part and Uttaranchal sounds literary). I try to approach people semmingly to be from Uttaranchal. however far from speaking Kumaoni/Garhwali, they tend to hide their original state and if insisted, try to avoid talking to you. In case you continue in hindi and show that both of you are now resiidents of that place, they keep on talking.
I think, this behaviour is persisting from the time when Pahadis were mostly illiterate andd were mostly working as household servants or fourth cllass employees outside. Now the situation is totally different and they are in best places in all kinds of lobs like Indians in different countries.
We must take pride in our language and culture and always talk in Pahadi(Kumaoni/Garhwali) while talking with pahadis.
