Max New York Life Insurance Co Ltd, one of India's leading insurance companies, is set to expand its customer base in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It aims to sell over 1,000 policies in another one month for its newly launched SMART Invest Pension plan. 
 
“UP is a very important market for us. The insurance awareness in the state is about 77 per cent while ownership in terms of any policy is about 18 per cent, which certainly indicates ample opportunities that exist to be exploited,” informed Anil Misra, regional manager (Delhi and UP), Max New York Life Insurance Co. 
 
Elaborating on the company's process plan, Vipul Jain, managing partner, Max New York Life Insurance, told Business Standard that the driving force for them were their trained agents. 
 
"We have about 359 trainers to train the agents in the right direction. In the process, the company penetrates in various segments of the society," he added. 
 
Talking about the ‘SMART Invest Pension’, the official said it was a unit linked pension plan that was affordable, efficient and flexible. "The plan is structured to meet the retirement needs of the evolving Indian consumer". 
 
The plan has a unique premium indexation feature. It enables the customer to take the plan at a lower premium and subsequently increase the premium by five per cent. 
 
This ensures that the customer is able to start retirement planning early and reach retirement goals in a smoother way based on life stages and income. 
 
In case the customer decides to change to level or fixed premium, he can do so after the policy completes three years by informing the company and can continue payment of fixed premium every year.

सिर्फ मेड इन उत्तराखंड का लग रहा है ठप्पा

 देहरादून विशेष औद्योगिक प्रोत्साहन पैकेज का लाभ उठाने के लिए राज्य का रुख करने वाले सैकड़ों उद्योग बड़े पैमाने पर धोखाधड़ी में लिप्त हैं। यह उद्योग केवल टैक्स हनीमून का फायदा उठाने की नीयत से यहां आए हैं। शासन की आंखों में धूल झोंक कर ऐसे सैकड़ों उद्योग राज्य में चल रहे हैं, जहां किसी तरह का कोई उत्पादन नहीं हो रहा है। या तो उत्पादों का संयोजन किया जा रहा है या फिर बाहर से तैयार माल पर मेड इन उत्तराखण्ड का ठप्पा लगा कर पूरे पैकेज का लाभ उठाया जा रहा है। इसके अलावा 70 फीसदी स्थानीय बेरोजगारों को इन उद्योगों में नौकरी दिए जाने की अनिवार्यता भी महज कागजों पर पूरी की जा रही है। हरिद्वार, पंतनगर, कोटद्वार और सितारगंज के औद्योगिक क्षेत्रों में कहने को तो अब 1000 से अधिक उद्योग स्थापित हो चुके हैं। इन में बड़े, मझले और लघु श्रेणी के उद्योग शामिल हैं। उद्योग की इमारत तो खड़ी कर दी गई, पर इनके अंदर क्या चल रहा है यह देखने वाला कोई नहीं है। शासन व सिडकुल के स्तर पर यह देखने की जहमत कोई नहीं कर रहा है कि वास्तव में इन उद्योगों में माल तैयार हो भी रहा है या नहीं। हकीकत यह है कि ऐसे सैकड़ों कारखाने हैं जो उत्पादन शून्य हैं। दूसरी ओर किसी तरह का उत्पादन न होने से स्थानीय बेरोजगारों को इन उद्योगों में रोजगार भी नहीं मिल पा रहा है। शासन की नाक के नीचे चल रहे इस गोरखधंधे की किसी को खबर तक नहीं है। यह फिर जानते हुए भी शासन स्तर पर कार्रवाई नहीं की जा रही है। सूत्र बताते हैं कि इस मामले में उद्योग विभाग और सिडकुल के अधिकारियों की मिलीभगत है। यह सब कुछ औद्योगिक क्षेत्रों में खुलेआम चल रहा है और शासन को इसकी भनक तक नहीं है।

New Delhi, Nov. 25: Himalayan forests of Uttarakhand have been valued at Rs 107 billion per year.

This valuation is based on the services these forests provide to the state as timber, tourism, water supply, nutrients rich soil and employment to people, says a study which has blamed authorities of not evaluating the impact of these forests on the state’s economy. Eminent scientist R. Costanza, in the first ever Ecosystem Service analysis has estimated current economic value of the services provided by the earth’s ecosystems at least at $33 trillion per year. The study states that the value of these forests should be recognised and compensated and authorities should give proper recognition to the forests (through evaluation system) and their contribution in the state domestic product.

The valuation is an approach to conserve ecosystems and rather than spending time and resources on selecting biodiversity rich areas, available forests should be conserved properly. According to the report, Uttarakhand’s forests sustain livelihoods of about 500 million people inhabiting the area and their contribution in the SDP is grossly under-utilised by authorities.

Millennium Ecosystem Assessment has defined Ecosystem Services (ESs) as wide range of conditions and processes, through which natural ecosystems including species, sustain and fulfil human life.

The study has said that despite ecosystem including forest’s contribution in country’s economy, their indicative values in monetary terms have been estimated only recently.

The study states that "across the globe because of escalating human activities, pressures on the very generating processes of ESs are always increasing; hence there is critical need for identification and monitoring of ESs both locally and globally, and for the incorporation of their value into decision-making processes. The concept of valuation of ecosystem ESs is becoming increasingly popular since last one decade".
